i think it's important to remember that not everyone shares the same opinions that you have. also, this does not mean his opinions are disrespectful.

i, usually, stand for the anthem. why? it has nothing to do with patriotism, but it's the same reason i don't burp around women: it's not socially beneficial. by not standing, i risk getting people like you all riled up.

if he doesn't feel like standing, don't necessarily take it as him being disrespectful. maybe he expresses his respect for the u.s.a. in different ways.

i'm assuming you hate dyed hair, piercings and heavy metal?

I would of said something.

I grew up an Air Force brat, was in the Air Force, and all of my friends growing up are in some branch of the military.

I got into a fist fight with some asshole hipster in San Francisco this last Halloween because he found it funny to dress up in a Marine Corp uniform. I realize his fcuk up was a bigger deal than the guy not standing, but it's something that means a lot to me and I would of been pretty vocal about it.

WTF!!!??? What is wrong with people!!?? That's upsetting to anyone who loves this country. I honestly think part of the problem is that society does not encourage citizenship as was done in the past. Our youth are growing up ignorant of what our cherished symbols mean; they do not realize the great sacrifice that has been made by the men & women who are defending this country.

Did I take it too far?

I think you did, worse off you really just embarrassed your self beyond any point of return.

I think its always a good thing to have a good time and not take things personally but if you blacked out and went postal on someone not standing for stars and stripes is just taking it to far. Worse off what if you approach someone who's had a bad week and facing a lot of legal and financial problems and that person whips your ass into a wheel chair. Just ain't worth it.

Not only do I think standing is just plain silly, taking yoru hat off is retarded. Why would I take my hat off? respect? NO!

There is complete disagreement on what to do with headress as far as 'respect' goes.

Christians say take it off; Jews say put it on; Muslims say...I have no idea what they say but it's one or the other! :lol2:

It would be MORE respectful to wear a ratty old baseball cap into temple than to go in without anything on as it is supposed to show that you are 'under' god and you are humble.

I can also kind of see the Christian point of view about taking it off

You either respect or don't respect the country whose anthem it is; that's a personal decision and you shouldn't HAVE to do anything regardless of what other people WANT you to do. Whether I sit or stand has no bearing on anything.

You definitely should have kept to yourself.

I would have ignored the entire incident.

:iamwithstupid:

Dont let someones size fool you. you would be suprised who can fight now a days.

I know 150 lb guys who can kick my ass all day long. It just takes one good punch to knock the biggest guys out.

That and the fact there are way too many people out there who are misearble in their lives with nothing to loose..

Really? Are you serious? Who cares if he didn't stand up or anything? How much sleep do you lose over starving kids in Africa or the people who were just killed in Moscow, or another 10 million horrendous things that probably happen every day?

And you're bent out of shape because some guy didn't stand up for the national anthem in a German bar in Vegas? Does some guy get in your face because you didn't say your prayer or go to confession or whatever it is your religion might be? What you did was absurd. I'd tell you to go fcuk yourself if you walked up to me and pulled that routine.

Who the fcuk cares what he was wearing!?!? It's none of your business. After all, isn't that what an actual Marine fights for (i.e., the right for people to enjoy many freedoms). It's not like he was burning it. Jesus!

We are priveleged to live in a country where you can do that kind of thing without being imprisoned or killed. That kind of freedom comes at a high price and should be preserved, whether or not you agree with every statement someone makes with their words or clothing. SHOULD he have done that? Arguably, no. Should he have been allowed to do that without being assaulted? Yes!
