there a good and a bad news abut this.

the bad news is that US countach price is dirt cheap for europeans. They are byuing here because there is a better value pick.

the good news is by my account 1/2 of the countach population is in the US so there is room to work with.

What is concerning in this is that the best and most expensive cars are going away and it seems that "would be buyers" are flocking around the junk cars. (other threads says the $60K dismembered QV gets 10 calls /days!!???). Heck a cheaper nice ferrari gets 2 calls 10 for the junk.

It looks like european like feasting on caviar and the taste of sh.t prevails here...

May be we need to become a socialist country with more people making good money and more chaps could afford buying nice cars again ( dont mind me, I am frustrated by this).

I do agree. losing that car from the NY shows is a significant loss. it was a mint car by all standard, even if I dont go for the color.

I am with you (except I loved the radical color combination). It saddens me to see another leave the US. In the 80's when the dollar was strong, I, along with thousands of others took cars from Europe to the US. They probably felt the same as we do today.

Reiner did the seller say it was going to Germany? did you talk to him? just curious as my best friends, friend was the high bidder from the USA and last i heard still has the highest offer on the car... so i'm not sure it sold yet is all.

Making some headway on the documentation and soon we should know more.

ps unless you have owned a DD don't talk to me about reliability about them. I've never had a mechanical carb NOT work, even on my first car (a 1976 cutlass) but fuel injection/ecu's, fuel mapping, computers on the other hand....

I spoke to him on the phone too, on the first day of auction. Within 24hrs he had a bidder from Germany who's feedback showed lots of Lamborghini parts etc.

That bid was $189,000, I suggested that is a very good number.

What about the black side draft car Cats has right now? He sounds like he wants to move it.

It too is a consideration, but my options are pretty plentiful.

Have you seen any S2 cars for sale? IMO they seem like the best deal right now as the prices will probably rise up as the LP400 and S1 cars have (just not quite as high). Not many around though.

Okay, there is all this talk about the car going to Germany !!!!! My friend here in Chicago who already has 3 Lamborghinis in his collection is the high bidder of $189,000 and yes he is German too !!!!!! So I am thinking that his eBay registration may show Germany as he has not been here long. I doubt that there would have been 2 Germans and both bidding $189,000 at the getgo and both being accepted.

The sale has not been completed because the seller has made claims that he cannot prove. The "S" designation may be all BS as there is nothing in writing from anyone that the "S" came on that car. There is nothing in writing that it had any engine modifications.

If the seller cannot prove these points....then we are just dealing with another 88 1/2 with a pretty color. Is it worth $189,000 ?? I do not think so. I wish all 1988 1/2s were up there now. I have one that rolled off the assembly line just a few cars prior to this one.

Hi Joe.

I agree that if the "S" factor can't be documented then that is certainly a much different issue. Unfortunately it is really looking like that is the case but can't say for sure yet. Hopefully soon. That would leave EXTRA value for the one off color, unique interior, and it being the last one before an Anniv car. Certainly all worth a premium but not as much as before.

If the factory refused to provide this, how is there any way to prove it on any car? Not like there was email back then so any conversations would have been on the phone... I guess what I'm asking is what do you all consider proof for supposed unique factory optioned cars if the factory refuses to provide paperwork?

There have been several non documented factory tweaked cars.

A PPI with a dyno run would easily answer that question. BUT would need another FI car to compare.

Does the buyer also have a Diablo? That would narrow down answer the who's working on buying it.

He has a 2001 Diablo 6.0, a very special LP640 that stickered at $420,000.00 because of a bunch of upgrades that did not come on a regular LP640. He just got rid of his Gallardo Spider. He just added a Jalpa. And Allan Fiedler, if you are reading this......we met your uncle in Northbrook, IL selling his red Jalpa. Unfortunately the NJ Jalpa was a better deal.

Can you really rely on dyno numbers from a 23 year old tune? And are you comparing it to a car that has not had the motor out? Or what if this one has and already been timed/set up again?

The main reason I am asking is that these special cars usually will help drive up the price of certain models as well and create some excitement. If Lambo did not ever release any documentation on this what is there to go by. Maybe nothing? Obviously the Wolf cars are known and certain others, the sultan car etc but we just know those by their vin already. What about these other "special" cars that potentially pop up in the future. Or as a community is that not something that is cared much about? Or is it potentially null and void because there is no factory paperwork?

Just trying to create a basis for discussion...

This could easily be the case. Lamborghini is far from Countach helpful. So look at it this way: Suspension mods? The answer? What is different? What could be told without dismantling the car. Really what would Lamborghini make, suspension wise, different for only one car? The only things that come to my mind is a different alignment, probably using 89 specs, and maybe different spring rates and or shocks. So if I was the seller (or buyer), I would be looking at that. Come up with something strangely/wildly different. Different arms or heim joints with grease fittings. Prove something different on the suspension. If it held true, I would accept the rest as a buyer, hoping one day to come up with the paperwork.

BREAKING NEWS !!!!!!!!!!

Valentino Balboni has been consulted and Valentino has stated that this car got no special engine treatment as the seller has stated and this car never had the "S" badge when it left the factory. Anyone can say anything when he is selling a car but to try to get top dollar on claims that cannot be proven is just wrong. Had these claims been true this would have been one very special car. Now the way I look at it I would say a top price should be more around $125,000.00 for having been the last car of the run and for having the one off color.......not $215,000.00.

To answer questions about "factory records"... yes if the company provided a letter stating they did something special then it obviously adds a lot to the value. In regards to another way to deal with factory documentation, the best option is all we really have to go by and that is in fact Valentino Balboni. Who Roy and I have been communicating with about this car. VB keeps his own records and remembers this car and states - NO Fuel injected cars were tweaked or modified by the factory- That includes this blue one. Is it special? Yes, for the previous stated reasons but unfortunately no engine or suspension mods FROM THE FACTORY. As far as the "S" goes he has no idea where it came from or who put it on. I interpret that to mean that it was not done at the factory. Whoever buys should put a euro rear and front on it anyway. I would value it a little higher maybe 150ish, 160 if you love blue (like me).
