How To Drift A Rolls Royce

I had the opportunity to drift a Rolls Royce Ghost during an event that was being put on with several Ferrari owners. The video was taped by a friend who was watching. I was afforded no practice runs before the demonstration, and this was my first time driving a Rolls Royce Ghost. The car drives fantastic for its size and weight. It was one of the most fun experiences I've had driving a car. I put the video together with background music because there really wasn't much to hear. The car runs so quiet, you couldn't hear engine noise. And the tire screech was just that, tire screech, not too impressive.

In the video, the first full slide through the corner was just that, my first attempt. Then at the end of the video is part of my second attempt. I only did these two passes, then we parked it.

The approach speed to the corner was roughly 75mph, I know, it doesn't look like it, but it was. To initiate the drift all it took was heavy braking, this took some of the speed off, and transferred weight to the front of the car, taking it off the rear tires making the easier to spin. An aggressive turn of the steering wheel to the left, about 1/4 turn, and put the throttle to the floor and she started to slide. Steer the steering wheel to the right to catch the slide, eyes ahead, foot to the floor and ride it out. At the end of the video you will see, if you watch closely, that I actually threw the car into the next right hand turn too :-) but it was out of video range.

Enjoy the video
