The fastest Lamborghini for Geneva 2013

Very interesting news:

The fastest car in Lamborghini’s 50-year history will be unveiled at the 2013 Geneva motor show in late March.

Expected to showcase the latest in lightweight carbon fibre production techniques – Lamborghini is one of the leaders in carbon fibre – the new supercar is expected to be built in very limited numbers, possibly as few as two or as many as 10.

Details of the secret new model remain sketchy and executives were keen to keep the lid on the surprise at this week’s Miami media launch of the Aventador Roadster.

But the yet-to-be-seen model will be “a big surprise”, according to designer Filippo Prini.

Research and development head Maurizio Reggiano says the car – which is set for very limited production – will be road-ready.

“It will be a homologated car,” he says.

“We want it to be a tribute to the [upcoming 50th] anniversary of Lamborghini and we want to shock and reward.”

Expect the new car to outgun the company’s multimillion-dollar supercar, the Sesto Elemento.

The V10-powered supercar that pioneered new carbon fibre production techniques in cars was claimed to top 100km/h in 2.5 seconds.

Reggiano says low volume and one-off cars – such as the radical Lamborghini Aventador J – will form an important part of the strategy for the brand, owned by Volkswagen.

“One-off [cars] is part of our strategy,” says Reggiano, who adds that the brand doesn’t bother with show concept cars that it has no intention of producing.

“Usually we present something because we want to produce or sell it.”

He says buyers of one-off Lamborghinis – each typically paying multiple millions for the privilege of having something unique - are often loyal customers and pay for the car prior to production, “the majority of the time without seeing the car”.

At the other end of the scale, Lamborghini is awaiting a replacement for its biggest selling model ever, the Gallardo.

First released in 2003, the Gallardo has accounted for more than 13,000 of the 29,000 cars Lamborghini has produced since 1963, when it was known for building tractors.

As with its more recent models, the replacement for the Gallardo (which, in-line with Lamborghini’s policy, will likely usher in a new name inspired by a fighting bull) is expected to have a lightweight carbon fibre body and be powered by a V10 engine.

Further down the track is the Urus SUV, tipped to become one of the fastest off-roaders in the world.

Revealed as a motor show concept car, the Urus could become the brand’s first turbocharged and first hybrid vehicle.

Lamborghini chairman Stephan Winkelmann says the Urus could go on sale in 2017.

While a turbocharged hybrid drivetrain appears likely – given the show car that has already been displayed – Winkelmann does not rule out diesel longer-term if it stacks up.

However, he says there is no program, and no development work has begun.

“Usually we have one model, one engine ... you need an engine which is able to be sold worldwide and diesel, unfortunately, is not. Up 'til now we don’t see any development in this direction,” says Winkelmann.

“Urus it could be, but this means going forward into major volume, which I don’t think we’re going to do.”

I can't wait to see what they drop on us. If they hadn't shown us the Aventador J last year I would have placed money on the car being a 570 with the next front bumper, a Super Trofeo wing, clear decklid and special paint. Nice to see that Lambo might actually have something special for us again and not a Year of the Bat edition or something retarded like that.

If it's a slightly rebodied Aventador with 10 hp more I'll be very disappoint.

With the new Ferrari hypercar F150 and the McLaren P1 at the show, I am sure they will be shooting to steal the show. I bet it will be beyond insane! I am excited. Especially after the J from last year.

that would be common sense ... but unfortunately that does not always dictate what actually happens.

i hope you are right, and i hope they bring out smthg lighter, full of cabron fibre and 780hp.

but more realistically im expecting to be disappointed

Good point!

We will know in a month! One thing is certain, with all these hypercars Geneva will be epic!

This is confusing as adding 20hp to an aventador is hardly much of a show stealer??

I wonder if its a totally different car from the aventador??

It could be a totally different car.

I hope it's gonna be something like the SE30, but unfortunately I doubt it.

I hope that Winklemann was lying when he said "no turbos" a few years ago. :D

Please God No :eusa_naughty:

I hope they are the last NA brand standing.

I would like to see NA in the flagship and TT in the entry level model.

I could live with that, but I would rather see McLaren own the TT small (lighter) engine in that segment, Ferrari offer the NA V8 and Lambo give us the bigger NA V10. It keeps our options more different. Especially for guys like you who choose to have both of the best! :icon_super:

If Lambo and Ferrari dont turn to TT asap, they are going to be left out in the cold.. N/A cant compete with forced induction.

The Aventador is doing a fine job kicking every cars ass it's side of the Veyron's price.

How much more power needs to come stock than what you get with the LP-700? I would rather have the more immediate delivery of power and the sound of a NA engine then boost. Boost can always be added. Especially with all the great specialists we all know of.

Tiny engines and turbos are cool. I might even get an MP4 spider (thanks to Aaron getting me all fired up about it :icon_mrgreen: ). I am also working on a Huayra order (also turbo, but a big engine).

I will always prefer a NA car.

If factory HP and weight is on par across the competing models as far as the manufactures are concerned there is no difference, the difference is the after purchase tuning ability which I don't think is seen as a plus by the manufacturers.

I would rather see them working on reducing weight, the level of power we are having in NA cars at the moment is more than sufficient.

I see no point in ridiculously powered cars, yes it's a rush but let's face it they are a one trick pony.

Weight down, good aero, better handling and braking, high revving crazy sounding NA engines that's what the exotic cars should be about.

Give me 650 to 700 HP in a 2800 lbs car wet, with crazy aero and braking and I will be more than satisfied.

My point exactly! You have the best factory TT car there is right now, the MP4, and you're suggesting the ride in the NA car that was tt'd aftermarket to the fullest without cost being much of a consideration as the TT experience.

Let McLaren make the best TT within the budget of the range.

Let Ferrari make cars with lots of buttons to play with and great V8's.

Lambo should continue to sell us the NA cars that we can turn into viciously fast monsters like yours!

I like the competition to be as different as possible in the best price segment in the super car market. :icon_thumleft:

Yep, there is no other better upgrade to a Lambo than putting twin turbos on it, therefore, maybe it wont be that bad if Lambo offers them on their entry level model. I do believe it will come eventually anyways.
