Deuce Report post Posted May 17, 2013 Hey Guys, thought I would document my build over the past year and post here for everyone. It has been extremely fun, disheartening, joyful, depressing and rewarding all at the same time! I purchased the car with Allan from a Rennlist member about a year ago which just finished the GT2 Evo bodywork by Kelly Moss Racing, once I received the car from Minnesota and bought out Allan is where everything got interesting to say the least....... Over the past year I have single handedly rebuilt the entire car from electrical, suspension, brakes, interior, wheels, exhaust, engine etc. The process has been painstaking, however I can confidently say that the car is better than when it rolled off the assembly line. Every single component was replaced with brand new OE Porsche & motorsport parts or superior aftermarket components and now is finally the car of my dreams. Deuce Report post Posted May 17, 2013 When I first received the car there were quite a few issues that needed to be addressed which started with electrical. First step was the turn signals, running taillights and dash lights did not work at all, so we had a local shop address which turned into a even larger problem when I got the car back. Electrical wires were cut, tapped into and not installed correctly and was a complete and total nightmare; when I got the car back the blinkers and taillights were working but kept shorting out and the dash lights never worked. So long story short, I ripped the entire dash apart took out all the wiring and replace all the electrical wiring harnesses throughout the whole car with brand harnesses from Porsche. Deuce Report post Posted May 17, 2013 Now was addressing all the oil leaks, they were everywhere. The previous owner had to rebuild a turbo before the car was shipped to me because it was leaking, well after driving the car around town for a week the leaks kept getting worse so I decided to pull the turbos and saw the drivers turbo had a slight leak as well. I had two schools of thought here, rebuild turbos and replace all gaskets that I could get to on the motor and hope that seals everything up or just drop the motor, rebuild and upgrade the turbos for a new tune etc. Well I decided to go with the rebuild! I pulled the motor and had SP engineering completely rebuild the internals so everything was perfect and brand new to withstand the new turbos and the custom 100 octane tune I was going to have evoms do on the car. Once I got the motor back to my house I replaced everything externally myself from all the vacuum hoses, valves, oil lines, injectors you name it. Deuce Report post Posted May 17, 2013 Now that I disassembled the engine and pulled the turbos and sent everything off, I had to address the leaking wheel issues I have had since the day I received the car. Well low and behold all the wheels were leaking at the seals and two of the wheels inner halves were totally bent and had to be replaced, so I had to completely rebuild all of the wheels with all new hardware, seals and halves Trashed parts: Freshly rebuilt: Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Deuce Report post Posted May 17, 2013 Next project was the suspension. I decided to pull everything because it looked like it definitely has seen better days. The Moton Dampeners were totally shot, two of them didn't actually hold nitrogen anymore after being filled after two days, they even leaked oil all into all the canisters etc. So I pulled them and sent them off to Moton to completely rebuild and update to the brand new motorsports spec. Deuce Report post Posted May 17, 2013 Next were the ERP monoballs, those have been in for years as well and were completely shot so I replaced them all with new elephant racing monoballs which actually have dust boots which are pretty cool. Also all the ball joints were toast so I had to pull those and repress new ones in too. Last on the suspension list were the camber plates, the monoball bearings in those were shot as well, so I replaced with new parts as well. Deuce Report post Posted May 17, 2013 With suspension done, I now tackled rebuilding the brake calipers. They actually seemed fine but since I was on a mission to replace every single bolt and washer on this car with brand new perfect parts I thought why not. So I replaced the pistons, seals and dust caps for the front and rear calipers and then sent them off to be reshot Ferrari red. Deuce Report post Posted May 17, 2013 Next I tackled the exterior and painted a few more parts white like the under door sill, front splitter and added the rest of the decals. Deuce Report post Posted May 17, 2013 I am sure there are many things I have left out, however FINALLY I have the completely rebuilt and absolutely perfect 993 GT2 EVO Clone, impeccable perfect body, interior, suspension, wheels, engine, you name it! I would find it hard pressed to find a better or more perfect example anywhere out there. I never thought this day would ever come after a year of building in my free time....... It was always my dream to own a 993 GT2 EVO and my favorite was the 77 Chereau car. Obviously that isn't possible in the US, so I decided make this into my own version. bought the car sight unseen for a pretty penny mind you and I ended out completely rebuilding it except for the existing bodywork conversion and have created my own. Countless hours and money has been spent on this project but I couldn't be any happier with the end result and I finally have my dream car YAY!!!!!! So I drink and in massive quantities.... often The car will be featured in the next issue of European Car and once that is out I will be able to share a bunch of awesome professional photos of the finished project, until then I hope you enjoyed this thread! Only option is to build a clone out of a perfect condition 993 Turbo, which as you know are very pricey and seem to be going up by the hour these days lol. LOL, I always knew this was going to a pain in the ass...... I bought the car with Allan as it was going to be my weekend car and he would use it from time to time when he didn't want to drive one of his other cars etc. Well once we received the car in California and I started digging into it, I decided I didn't want to let it go; so I paid Allan's portion of the car off and have undertaken the build and all expenses since it arrived to us in SoCal. Hopefully that helps people understand, even though people are always going to think it's his car cause of his FB Fanboy Page LOL, but it is my special baby.
