johnmh Report post Posted August 19, 2013 I have a used but good conditon complete Ansa system laying around which I am considering installing on my LP400S. One problem, the stock muffler hangs from brackets welded on to the sides of the muffler while the Ansa has no such brackets. How do I mount the Ansa? Am I missing a part? One problem, the stock muffler hangs from brackets welded on to the sides of the muffler while the Ansa has no such brackets. How do I mount the Ansa? Am I missing a part? There is a mount just behind the differantial for the Ansa style muffler i.e. it is a center mount. Cheers Jim
johnmh Report post Posted August 20, 2013 Thanks, but I am a bit confused. The car is different because it comes equipped with different mounts from new? A photo would be amazing if you might have one.
Jalpa_Mike Report post Posted August 20, 2013 John, The ANSA is similar to the Quicksilver system (which I have on my car). I believe that the European cars are the ones that utilized the single center mount. The USA cars had the outer mounts (that attached to the spring loaded vibration dampers on the side). Here is a photo of my system when it was delivered (note the center mount). After I got the system mounted, I tied the sides up with bailing wire (to take the stress off) and took it to a welding shop where they fabricated and welded on the brackets. Hope this helps, Mike
johnmh Report post Posted August 20, 2013 My LP400S is euro but has the side mounts. The Ansa came off my LP5000S (which is away in the paint shop otherwise I could check it out). Odd that they would sell a system which does not mount with the stock mounts. I see no other mounts listed in the eurospares fiche. Will continue to investigate. P400Miura Report post Posted August 20, 2013 I will have to see if I can get a photo, there are three mounts on the car. Two on the side for the stock muffler and one in the middle behind the differential for the sport exhaust. The center mount is not obvious at first, but it should be there. I asked the same questions about a year and half ago. Cheers Jim

johnmh Report post Posted August 21, 2013 Cool! My 400S has the tab welded to the frame but not the bracket. The spring loaded mounts is the same as used on the sides of the larger, stock muffler. The bracket 004405055 would appear to be the same. This looks easy. Thanks.

Thanks. my car has the catalyst exhaust mounted from the sides, I'll just use one of the mounts for the quicksilver exhaust, which is very similar (if not the same but in stainless) to the ansa sports

johnmh Report post Posted August 21, 2013 Many thanks. That is the exact system I have laying around. In similar conditon too. As an aside, I will PM you about your 5000S restoration. My engine is complete (I.e. all new parts) but is still disassembled. Maybe your specialist would be interested in putting it together? My helper is way too busy building v12s for boat racing. Allan-Herbie Report post Posted August 21, 2013 some pictures: hope can help. ciao Not putting it down, but see how rusty and old the Ansa already looks compared to a quicksilver?
Albert-LP Report post Posted August 22, 2013 Not putting it down, but see how rusty and old the Ansa already looks compared to a quicksilver? I was waiting for you, Allan! I knew you would have written that. That's a steel Ansa, that i purchased three years and a half ago, preowned. As you know, Ansa is available also in Stainless Steel and as you know too, i do not want any replica on my car. That Ansa Sport exhaust is still made today by the same Ansa former workers that did the 1984 OEM exhaust and OEM Sport option. The OEM Ansa Sport option muffler was not street legal (the same as the rear wing), so you usually had to install it after the car delivery. I personally met those guys here in Finale Emilia, Modena: they still have all the old OEM Ansa tools, that's fantastic. Maybe that small amount of rust you see is due to a repair not perfectly done last year as the Ansa muffler suffered a hit during the big quake we had here last year. I will ask mechanic to polish and spray a bit of Hi Temperature Black coat on that rust, next inspection. Pictures are three weeks old, more or less, they were taken at the end of july. You can see some new black coat around the rear shock adsorbers upper housing points: there was a bit of rust around there, despite a complete tube hub repaint during 2010 spring. It looks water lies there after a washing or a storm. Maybe the same happens to that rusty zone of Ansa muffler, who knows: what i know is that old car has not a full zync plated hub like a Porsche 911, so you just have to inspect the car every now ant then to polish the rust and give some coat. I do it at least once a year: some rust on the muffler is not a problem, as there are several other and more critical zones where the rust can grow up, like under the front spoiler or on the hub tubes around suspension and shock adsorbers housings. ciao
emilio Report post Posted August 27, 2013 few pics of ANSA SPORT headers for the LM002 built in SS i chatted with ANSA about finish...they basically told me they can make them as the Q.S. but they prefer to keep them like they were back in period (mild steel, black paint..etc) since most of the customers want them this way but it is possible to order them in SS, polished, etc
