IanMason Report post Posted April 1, 2014 I know I'm asking this question on the best Lambo forum, but many of you own several brands; so I'd like to know your opinions on this. I talked to Carsen at McLaren Atlanta today about ordering a 650s spider, and told him I'd let him know soon. He said that I'm looking at ~$344k. So, my question to you is... are there any downsides to a '12 Aventador vs a '13 or '14? I don't want to buy a '12 for $380k and end up with a car that is not as well sorted as a '13 or '14, when I could have bought a new 650s which would be the "latest and greatest" from McLaren. From what I have learned, the 650s is a more advanced car, and more daily-drivable, but this won't be a daily anyway. I know they're both very different beasts and if I don't get an Aventador now, I plan to get one within a year anyway. Thank you in advance. Funny, with business I'm never so on-the-fence, but with toys I am. Nothing looks as cool as an Aventador, to my eyes. It certainly sounds amazing as well. But....... I like the transmission in the McLaren, and I want a convertible.. but I can't afford an Aventador roadster. EDIT: Sorry to ASK a favor from you all on my very first post... and my username... wow, could have put more effort into that huh? lol
AudiBull Report post Posted April 1, 2014 There is no 650S v Aventador nobody is cross shopping them, if they do the number is so small it means zero to Lambo. This is either Asscelerator's alter ego or a pretty hilarious coincidence. Ian, you'll have to read around a bit before you get that. No offense meant. Plenty of people prefer the 12' because of the lack of cylinder deactivation and stop/start. Plenty of people prefer the 12' because of the lack of cylinder deactivation and stop/start. No offense felt at all. Thank you for your reply - I didn't know about the cylinder deactivation or stop/start, and I would prefer without those too. AudiBull's post is probably right on though... I haven't driven an Aventador, so I don't know if I love more than its looks and sound. I have driven a 12C many times thanks to Club Sportiva on the west coast, so I know I love driving the McLaren. sprite Report post Posted April 1, 2014 I don't think you can go wrong with either, also if you are not 100% set on the 650s the mp4-12c's are available heavily discounted. You would probably save close to 100k off sticker on a used 13' spider and 60k+ on a 14'.

I was going to go that route, but my wife kept saying "I know which one you really want. You're spending this much money so get the one you really want the most." She's supposed to push me to get the best deal LOL. Anyway, I am pretty set on the 650s. I love the new style and I want the faster transmission and more power. But I still should try to get a drive in an Aventador to help me choose, I guess.
LamboLover12 Report post Posted April 1, 2014 I've never driven either of them, since I'm 14, but I would say go with the 650S for better ride quality, transmission, etc. Even though I'm a Lamborghini guy all the way. But which ever one you pick, it will be awesome Ian!
Assman Report post Posted April 1, 2014 I think the 650 depreciation curve is yet to be determined but if it follows the mp4 it could lead to a world of hurt. Regardless both cars are very different.

RaginBull Report post Posted April 1, 2014 I would get a heavily discounted 12C spider over the 650S. I'd take an Aventador over every other super car including cars that cost much more than it.
SV-N-IT Report post Posted April 1, 2014 I would take a vent roadster over just about every car available today! (if money was no object) in my case I would take that new 650s spider over a 12' vent coupe any day of the week and save 60k for a nice trip and exhaust lololol IMO
VBUGKING Report post Posted April 1, 2014 I have owned a 2012, 2013, and 2014 Aventador as well as a 2012 Mclaren 12c coupe and 2014 spider. If you want a more sorted Aventador, I would go for a 2013 over the 2012. As far as the 650s goes, I would not order one new unless you are willing to take a massive depreciation hit compared to the Aventador or an already discounted/depreciated 12c. If you really prefer the Mclaren over the Aventador, I would just pick up a heavily discounted 12c convertible, and wait for the 650s to be out for a while and get discounted. I would still take the 650s spider. they offered me a discount on the new car and a decent trade number + the tax credit. im considering it. Thanks for the good influence. Coming from you, it means something, since I have always seen you getting the latest and greatest, and assumed you wouldn't be giving this advice.. No offense meant. Know of any 2013 Aventadors under $380k? haha I don't mind a 2012 without cylinder cut and start/stop, but I do want the most reliable model year I can get. I don't see any reason not to expect the same huge depreciation that hit the 12c to happen on the 650s as well, so if i do get a 650s, I'll be doing it assuming that loss will happen (ouch). Thank you very much for the help in my decision.

IanMason Report post Posted April 2, 2014 Couldn't agree more!! It really sounds like I need to drive an Aventador before I make a decision... Looks like I'll be taking a quick trip to ATL soon, either way..
