Robster Craws Report post Posted May 4, 2014 Reminds me of a story I heard. Could be true, could be legend. A Texan was playing high roller in Vegas being a big shot and kind of an ass. Another player came in and started playing. The second player tired of the Texan's antics and asked him casually his net worth. The texan answered 20 million amigo to where the second player pulled out a quarter and said, "I'll flip you for it." Later it was revealed the second player was a billionaire. Kerry Packer was a very interesting character to say the least, this is probably worth the 8 min watch: This is the full version of the above Damn I like this guy

better4worse Report post Posted May 4, 2014 Damn I like this guy If you're a gambler, and ever find yourself at the Belagio in Vegas, playing the $50 min black-jack tables (or above), odds are high the dealer dealt to Packer. He frequented that casino alot before his death. Some of greatest Packer stories I heard, were from Belagio dealers....They used to call him "Santa Clause" tipping them like crazy, often 5 figure tips regardless if he was up/down, classy/generous was how most described him. Some of greatest Packer stories I heard, were from Belagio dealers....They used to call him "Santa Clause" tipping them like crazy, often 5 figure tips regardless if he was up/down, classy/generous was how most described him. He was a generous tipper, but top management always was afraid of Kerry Packer streaks... His winning streaks are cause for some firings at management level, due to the losses his 250k$ hands would make to the casinos. Several times the GMs that accepted those bets got 86d because of the hits they took... On the other hand a 20 or 30M$ losing streak from Packer would mean a great bonus for them. In gambling volume Packer can be only compared, probably, to Adnan Khashoggi... the only difference is that Adnan would lose more money than he could, and had several financial problems due to his gambling and general spending lifestyle, something I think that never happened to Packer. A curious thing is that Packer son is today on the other side of the game, by being a major player in the Macao gaming industry. Macao nowadays is the world gambling capital, with a gaming turnover that exceeds Vegas... Because to have his lifestyle the trick is to have a bankroll that keeps growing no mather how high the steaks are, and how long the losing streaks go... If not you go from being a bon vivant to be a simple addict... Very entertaining caracther nonetheless...

traxter Report post Posted May 5, 2014 My dad watched Khashoggi play at Caesars in the 80's. Said that he couldn't keep track of the ridiculous amount of money back and forth across the table He was quite a character in those days... From the 70's till the mid 80's AK was portraying himself as the richest man in the world, thinking that would be good for business... His sprees, be it gambling, shopping or partying were always over the top. In Marbella, a place he helped to create the way it is today, he's still a topic for reminiscence for people in the Club, due to his lavish spending and for the attentive way he treated most of the people in his circle. At one point he had the biggest private yacht in the world, Nabila, moored in Puerto Banus throughout the high season and filled with A listers, be it royalty, tycoons or artists... AK alone was responsible for a big part of the RE boom that occured there in the 80's, fixing deals with Saudi royals and other petrol sheiks that drove prices of RE through the roof... Today AK is a shadow of what he used to be in terms of lavish lifestyle... the better property he had in Marbella was sold to Vladimir Putin, and nowadays he uses a relatively small house near Puerto Banus for when he is around. It was a fascinating read, this guy lived large, VERY large, he even made the cover of TIME. Some guys around here, might even remember his episode on Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous (Robin Leach), after that series was over, Robin said his best 2 profiles for the show during its run were: AK + Imelda Marcos (both didn't end up too well) But unlike Packer, Hubris brought down AK I hear he's still good friends with George Hamilton, and some spotted him moving around Cannes in the summer via taxi, no longer 3 private jets & dozens of Mercedes stretch limousines ! Hubris, Hubris, Hubris .....

better4worse Report post Posted May 5, 2014 Does he still own that crazy mansion in Cannes? Next to his brother? No clue. But since his downfall, he has had serious problems flashing cash in Europe, the infamous Ritz Casino in Mayfair (London) hired a team of PI's and collectors after him, since he stiffed them for a few million pounds in gaming debts and claimed to be insolvent. So even if he still owned anything in Cannes, I suspect it would be incognito.

Robster Craws Report post Posted May 8, 2014 back to original topic, I like the elevator feature most I wonder if you can lower it during flight in case you want to go skydiving .... Me too. I wonder if you can open an exterior elevator on a jumbo jet at 35,000 ft and 640 MPH to go skydiving. Back the better off topic. Kashoggis triad center here in salt lake has been around for years.. But apparently the funding dried up at the start of the project and there's only two large buildings that stand now.. It was supposed to be an entire complex that was going to be the main business center in downtown salt lake.. Now it's only used by a few private offices and one of the news stations. Shame to see people over spend and under plan especially when they are such an amazing business man as he was.
