It caused me to start rolling names... Which was an interesting excercise... Leno is good, (and available) but if they wanted to stick to Brits, Gervais, or Graham Norton would seem obvious choices as well... And hen I started thinking... They have a dozen years of audition tapes from the reasonably priced car segment... There are some serious car guys in there, who also have some serious interviewing skills.... And then it occurred to me... BBC already has a good idea where they're going next... My guess is, the deal is already finalized... They're just going to wait a bit to announce it...

Just please... Whatever they do.... Not fcuking pierce Morgan.

Chris Evans (not Captain America) is probably the guy who's most-talked-about over here as a potential new Top Gear presenter, though he's said he hasn't been approached by the BBC and has no designs on the job. If they really want to get away from the old format, Jay Leno could be a way to dispel the aura of xenophobia cultivated by Clarkson.

Whoever they pick, it's a poisoned chalice. It's an EXTREMELY difficult task to find the right format and presenter chemistry - if Richard and James stay on then they're a Jon Cryer-like reminder of what came before, and won't necessarily work as well with the new guy. And the remakes of Top Gear in other countries have proven that an all-new trio is unlikely to work either.

Plus, even if they somehow manage to nail a working formula, there will always be millions of people who miss the original setup.

I know Chris Evans ruled himself out but that was before Clarkson was let go but he would be perfect as would Rowan Atkinson. In fact I think those two would make an amazing show just covering the cars they own.

Leno is a no. Doubt he would be UK based for the length of time it takes to film and he is not very British.

However I think it might be a female. I cite this as the reason

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-31800782

This list puts Jodie near the top but massive imbalance to the other two.

It depends if the BBC will hang on to the other two, there are some contractual wranglings involved with them as a team so that needs to be made clear else it could be a new format with new presenters.

Plot twist, JC gets his own show and in an effort to plug it he becomes the star in a reasonably priced car.

Ahhh... The magic of Television....

You could shoot an entire season of that show in three weeks time.

Isnt Leno doing something with CNBC?

Ill bet the prospect of doing this instead could interest him more... After all... Its a much bigger show, and if he were on it, I suspect it would get picked up by a major U.S. network.... And its not like he owes NBC any favors at this point.

My mind has gone blank, i cannot think of any non British person that is onscreen talent at the BBC.

Certainly employing someone like Leno would raise eyebrows at the costs involved.

That was my thought. Clarkson was on a $1m salary with most of his money on the backside in merchandise, etc. I don't know what it would cost for Leno, but I'm guessing a $1m offer will get you a look akin to asking if you can use his Miura for a porn scene.

Such abhorrence of workplace violence might only be about 30-40 years old. Outside of that, especially in the military, there was a time when if two guys disagreed they might lock themselves in a room where "two opinions went in and one came out." I'm not making a judgement right or wrong. I'm just saying it's a function of our times and culture. I'd dare to say other countries/cultures (I'm looking at you Russia) might still have a bit of a different attitude toward it.

This wasn't a "disagreement" or a "difference of opinions". This was Clarkson throwing a temper tantrum because supper wasn't on the table when he got to the hotel. And whereas I can understand being ticked at something like that (especially if theres a long delay in getting it or if you're somewhere where your food options dry up at a certain point and you're fucked), that might be grounds to have the person fired... But you cant start hitting people. Its not the first person he's hit either, which puts the employer in a real bind legally.

Oh, of course. I was just noting that in a different time and place not too long ago this would have been acceptable. Not that it should be, is, or that I want it to be...just that everything is relative in the grand scheme.

The Top Gear set has been dismantled and most of it has been packed up and put in storage. Even if the BBC find replacements for the presenter(s), it doesn't look like they are expecting things to be sorted out in the near future.

Imho the punishment could have been that they don't renew his contract. There was only month left anyway. That would of had made financial sense and sense to other who work at Top Gear production and to us who watch. At least they should air what was already recorded, without the studio segments and without the trio. I really think that bullies and hitter must be kicked out but it was done propably in a way that was wrong.

Well. Yeah... But that world has changed.... This could have just as easily been a woman LP....and what if he punched her? Obviously he fucked... And then we're into this "were going to have two sets of standards for behavior based on plumbing...." Territory.

That's not unusual at all... You almost always strike a set at the end of the season... Whether you're going to come back to it or not... You need to be able to use or rent out that soundstage space over the summer, and most shows like that will "freshen up" or completely redesign a set every few seasons... No biggie...

From what I've heard, May definitely seems onboard with production, and the midget seemed to be as well....

And wasn't he ~two hours late for supper because he chose to stay at some pub for ~two hours?
