When you philistines were at the skateboard park, I was reading B.F. Skinner and Oliver Sacks.

That's not true...

Testosterone from the mother (women have some too) has already appropriately "bathed" the fetus during the first trimester of gestation and created a boy or girl...

That's not true…"A gene in the sex-determining region of the short arm of the Y, now referred to as SRY, has been found to direct production of a protein, testis determining factor, which binds to DNA, inducing differentiation of cells derived from the genital ridges into testes. In transgenic XX mice (and some human XX males), SRY alone is sufficient to induce male differentiation."

God bless ms Jenner...I hope she finds some peace as her "true" self. But I'm sick of the whole kardatian clan and wish they'd just go away. While I find Caitlyn's actions to be be brave I don't think she deserves the AA award...she'll catch some shit of course, but the world and media really have no choice but to be generally supportive...now when my high school computer teacher made the transition from 6'2" man to 6'5" woman in high heels back in 1990...in the middle of the school year...THAT was brave. She was no media darling and she transitioned in a small town high school with almost no support. It takes some balls to get shot by Leibovitz for the cover of Vanity Fair, but it takes gigantic balls to wear a one piece bathing suit as the lifeguard at the town's only public pool, as a side gig to your teaching job...big gigantic balls...in a woman's bathing...oh never mind.

QUOTE (RomanDad @ Jun 4 2015, 03:44 PM) post_snapback.gif Riiiight... A hormone, which we absolutely 100% KNOW effects the brain, can be used in unregulated, uncontrolled doses, enough so to increase athletic performance, perhaps to "world's greatest athlete levels", and then is STOPPED (all too often abruptly and suddenly) but won't have any effect on the brain?

You're reaching. Arnold Schwarzenegger and many others did the same.

Point proven!!!

Why do you keep coming back to XX males? Bruce Jenner isn't hermaphroditic.... (And neither is Jamie Lee Curtis as far as anybody factually knows. ) You're talking about less than .0001% of the population, which doesn't come close to explaining any of this.

The prenatal androgen effects occur during two different stages. Between 4 and 6 weeks of the gestation.

Genital virilization (midline fusion, phallic urethra, scrotal thinning and rugation, phallic enlargement); although the role of testosterone is far smaller than that of dihydrotestosterone.

Development of prostate and seminal vesicles.

During the second trimester, androgen level is associated with gender formation.

Look, I have absolutley no problem calling a spade a spade:

Here's a 90 pound anorexic who's thought process is "If I could just lose another 20 pounds, everything would be fine" Guess what? She's mentally ill. The answer to her problems is not starving herself to death.

download.jpg

Here's a guy who over the course of time, has turned himself into a lizard. The thought process is something along the lines of "If I could just get a little more freakish looking, then I'll be happy".- Totally mentally ill. The answer to his problems isnt saving up enough scratch to get a few more "scales" colored in. Its psychotherapy.

Hellzapoppin_Lizard_Man_Seminole_Casino.jpg

Here's somebody who has turned themselves into a human fcuking pin cushion. The thought process is, "If I could just find another spot on my face to stick a fcuking needle, then life would be perfect!" Mental illness. (And probably Hep C).

Tatoos_N_Piercings.jpg

Here's the arm of somebody who obsessively and compulsively cuts themselves.... The thought process is "If I mutilate myself, I wont feel the other pain in my life." (plus the biologic response to pain, the release of endorphins and adrenaline becomes psychologically addictive). The answer to this person's problems is not more pain and injury. It's fixing the underlying mental illness that causes them to think this is a rational solution to their troubles.

Schnittwunden.JPG

Here's the face of somebody who is addicted to plastic surgery... The thought process is "If I can just fix this series of flaws in my face/body, and take them both to some unrealistic cartoonish ideal of "beauty" (which is in fact horrifying) then I will be pretty." Mental Illness.

Deformed_Pete_Burns_Talks_Plastic_Surgery_in_TV_Special_2.jpg

I think MOST people are still rational enough to recognize these neurosis for what they are... SYMPTOMS of underlying SEVERE mental illness.

But find some man who says, "If I just didn't have this pesky penis anymore, THEN I'd be happy" and because it purports to tangentially be related to sexuality (which has been the VECTOR of almost every mental illness EVER) then its off limits? We have to cheer his neurosis on? ITS MENTAL ILLNESS... Chopping off parts you were born with, unless they are gangrenous or malignant, is insane.

Nobody would say the Anorexic was "born feeling as if she should have the body weight of a 7 year old child, so its OK if she starves herself until shes 45 pounds"... And thats because the only difference is the LIFE THREATENING consequences. They both suffer from this same compulsion... Her feelings of being fat (when in fact shes far too skinny) are no less real than his feelings of "being a women" (even though he's a man.) We treat one. We cheer on the other. Because political correctness has frightened us all and we don't want to be "insensitive".

And you're right.. I DON'T KNOW FOR SURE if steroid abuse had anything to do with this. But its something I sure as shit would look at. I'd also look to childhood abuse/sexual trauma, and OCD disorders.

(RD's case above)

Solid. No matter what we think of it, variations in sexual behavior result in controlling a population. It seems that the higher a civilization moves up a so-called hierarchy of needs, the more sexual behavior varies and the wider definitions become as to what is acceptable (affordable) in the best interest of the society. The reason people can say, "let Bruce have his identity swap if it makes him happy," is because we've reached a point where people don't feel affected like they might have been at some other point in time. Pleistocene Bruce might have been kicked out of the cave to starve to death. Nature vs. nurture becomes a moot point with a simple change in context and evolution takes it in stride. Being unwilling to understand what RD is saying due to corn pone groupthink is what I think will slow us down in the long run.

And don't get me wrong. I'm a libertarian. He can do whatever the fcuk he wants as long as he's not hurting somebody else. But don't ask me to look at somebody who has a fcuking screw loose and pretend it's normal.

I wouldn't be too worried about that the population is increasing at a very high rate, with advancements in tech and medicine we also hang around for longer, a more concerning factor is sustaining the growth/increase and everything else which comes along with it.

As long as there are males and females on the planet one way or the other procreation and therefore multiplication will exist.

Just curious what you people's thoughts circumcision are? I ask because that is a culturally-accepted act of male genital mutilation.

I don't know if it's supposed to be "normal" so much as just something that naturally occurs in certain people and as you said is not harming anyone else. I haven't asked any, but I'd bet some transgendered people and homosexual people would probably agree and said, "Yeah, something in me is wired wrong that makes me like this, but I am not harming anyone so it's my business."

I think whether it constitutes a mental illness is debatable. I think there is a gray area between what constitutes abnormal versus full-on mental illness. The thing with a "normal" transgendered person is that they only undergo the surgery needed to become the opposite sex (or an impression of anyway) and then that's that. They do not have some compulsion to keep changing themselves to the point of self-destruction, like the anorexic person or the lizard man or the cutting person.

For example, are boxers and mixed martial arts practitioners a form of mentally ill? As who in their right mind actively does something dangerous like that? Are volunteer combat-arms soldiers mentally ill? Firefighters? Where is the exact line between behaviors that constitute a mental illness versus behaviors that constitute just abnormal behavior? Who is more "normal," the Navy SEAL who undergoes hell and high risk for low pay or the transgendered person who otherwise is totally normal in their behaviors?

:iamwithstupid:

In the same way having your tonsils out because they become repeatedly inflamed or your appendix removed when it tries to fcuking kill you. There is at least some medical substance behind the procedure.

Wheels... did you REALLY just compare someone willing to fight to defend other people he's never met, with a guy wanting to cut off his cock and balls?

Serious question... have you ever had your T levels checked? Do you at all enjoy competition? I've broken my nose before and it was enough for me to avoid getting into a boxing ring, but I completely understand why some people find it enjoyable. Hell I used to huck myself hundreds of feet through the air on a motorcycle purely because I got a kick out of it. This isn't something that normally needs explaining to men.

I gotcha. I can see how people reading your position can blur its meaning through their own emotions no matter what side they think they're on, through no fault of your own.

Oh, I wasn't necessarily addressing how effective it is as an agent for population control, only that it technically works and traditionally flourishes in the more mature apex civilization where the highest needs of people are peaking and can only spread outward rather than continue upward. Just like certain diseases present themselves only when every other disease has exhausted itself...1st world problems. The world is trying to kill us however it can.

6am? That's an LP addiction if I've ever seen one. I'm sure they have medication you can try for that.

Some definitely are... Some LIKE pain. That's mental illness. Most aren't. They are engaged in a rational cost benefit analysis. The thought process is, "I'm really good at this, and won't get seriously hurt,, and I can handle some brief pain that I will train hard to minimize and in exchange I get to engage in a sport I enjoy and I might become stinking filthy rich and famous in the process."

As who in their right mind actively does something dangerous like that? Are volunteer combat-arms soldiers mentally ill? Firefighters? Dude... :fu:

Im going to try to explain the difference between self-mutilation, and engaging in difficult but rewarding or potentially dangerous activities and careers... Actually... fcuk it... No I'm not...
