I videotaped a shark getting a kill!

Yesterday I was at work and fcuking bored out of my mind, so I walked over to the pier and was looking at the fish in the water. There were some huge fish at the bottom, but out of nowhere I see this shark and video taped him. Sure enough, I got a kill on camera! This thing doesn't look like it because I was 8 feet off the water, but it was five feet long. Looks better in full screen.

That is sick! I am afraid of sharks, but find them to be fascinating animals.

Thanks, dude! :icon_super: I don't know if I fear them, but I definitely respect them. The video doesn't do this thing justice. It fcuking teleported in the water.

Always amazing to see apex predators in action.

I spend quite a bit free diving here in S. Florida - I have seen countless sharks in the water. I used to sh%t myself but now after spending a ton of time in the water its easier to stay calm when they are around. but its always awesome seeing them.

I'm hoping to get certified for diving before I leave here. I just never have time. I think it'd be quite different to be with them in person!

Holy shit that's fast! Looks like a blacktip, I guess they need that speed to nab little fish poking their heads out from reef openings.

That's what one of the local guys here said. I'm wondering how old he was and if there were bigger sharks nearby. It's not common for sharks to work their way through the canal and over to the piers.

That's about average size for an adult blacktip. I don't know how tight a canal that one is, but blacktips are used to navigating narrow and uneven passages, they're specialised for coral environments.

That makes a lot of sense considering the crazy amounts of coral in that area. Thanks for the info! :)

Didn't see a kill...All I saw was a shark shitting its pants and swimming away after noticing a human filming a video in vertical mode.

It wasn't swimming away from me. I'd been watching it for 15 minutes prior and it was swimming really close to me. It did kill a fish. You can't see it on the video, but it did get the kill. It hung around for a little while after that too.

:D I was just messing with you for filming a vertical video..don't take my post too seriously. :icon_thumleft:

jokes aside, Never knew sharks swim that fast though. crazy stuff. where did you see the shark? It doesn't look like a place where a shark will appear randomly

Awesome video! Definitely get certified, you're on Hawaii for heaven's sake! I lived on Maui for awhile and worked at a dive shop and went on hundreds of dives out there. Blacktips are super docile and very cool to dive with!
