Movie Review: 007 SPECTRE

Saw it over the weekend. I liked it. I thought it was a bit light, but it also had that sense of unapologetic fun. Let's not forget Bond has been pretty campy throughout it's history (*cough**cough*Moonraker*cough**cough*). The Hentai-inspired opening sequence was smidge odd and some of the plot points were a tad weak, but I still thought it was solid fun. To me what I didn't get was this whole "Monica Bellucci is 50 and redefining the Bond-girl image" story line the media was running. The dude just banged her to pass the time while getting intel...hardly seems that "revolutionary" to me.

My Daniel Craig Bond rankings:

1) Skyfall

2) Casino Royale

3) Spectre

worst....bond.....ever!!!!

actually i think it was so bad, from what i heard, Daniel Craig wanted to walk out a few times.

by the end of the first hour, people started leaving. by the end of the second hour half the theater was gone. I contemplated a few times walking out, but i said screw it, i made it this far, stick it out. after the final fight i walked out, couldnt take it anymore.

@stoleit you nailed it with your points. did they really think no one would notice? I was also disappointed with the suits. usually they dress Daniel nice, this time his jacket in the Mexico scene looked like it was 2 sizes too small

the car chase - HORRIBLE!!! its like the director doesnt like cars one bit and was forced to do something for the sake of having a car chase.

I miss the gizmos from Q. The Pierce Brosnan days used to have more gagets than batman!

It is like I wrote it.

I guess I'm ruined, I fully expected the CUNT.

Man, what a disappointment. Bond no longer carries the gadgets, they have been replaced by the white tux in luggage and the assortment of fashionable shit. The tedious fcuking plot. The compeltely nonsensical line up of cars at a fcuking SECRET MEETING. The drama, more 'feelingy bullshit' no one cares about. The completely stupid escape where Bond apparently discoveres Auto Aim after getting DRILLED through his head twice, the stupid maze a supermastermind criminal had elaborately set up with shitty black and white HP Cannon 100 printouts stuck to walls. Seriously, WHAT THE fcuk was that whole movie?

What about Quantum of Solace?

That one was so bad I don't officially recognize it as part of the series, like with Ocean's Twelve and The GodFather III :eusa_naughty:

GLOL at those commenting on the realism of the film... then masturbate themselves into a wet and sticky crosseyed mess over films like The Equalizer.

Don't you change LP, don't you change.

Equalizer? Another giant pile of shit.

No country for old men, Saving Private Ryan, The Edge..where the hell are movies that celebrate some dose of realism - that understand action/reaction?

Just came back from the movie theater. I want my money back!

What a slooow pile of shit, two and half hour movie should be reduced to 20-30 minutes at most.

I saw the movie last night. Overall, I thought it was visually striking, especially the opening sequence in Mexico City. That was one of the most vibrant, engaging, well-coordinated cinematography I've ever seen in an action film. Unfortunately, I struggled to stick with it from there.

My complaints:

1) The product placement has always been an essential part of the Bond brand -- the car, the watch, the clothing, the guns/gadgets, etc. It's starting to become too obvious. Moneypenny opens a nicely wrapped Samsung phone for no reason, the watch gets mentioned specifically, etc. I should not consciously notice most of these placements. They're supposed to be cool because we have to figure out what that amazing watch Bond was wearing, not have a little commercial for it mid-movie.

2) The DB10. It looks great, it sounded great, but the fact that it wasn't a real car ruined my suspense of disbelief. I can't remember another Bond movie where the car wasn't something you could go out and buy (obviously without the missiles and Q additions). The fact that this "concept" was in the movie made it feel fake and fantastical to me. The villain chasing him in another non-production car just makes it worse. This isn't supposed to be a super hero with a futuristic nonexistent car. I want to drool over the latest Bond car in a showroom after I see the movie. Also, I realize no secret agent would really be issued a quarter-million dollar supercar, but they really really wouldn't be issued a "stand out anywhere" concept car nobody has ever seen. This really bothered me.

3) The Bond girls. The widow scene with Monica Bellucci came across as cheesy to me. The other girl wasn't a knockout looker like many of the past Bond girls. Her sudden change of heart about Bond seemed a bit constructed too. He's supposed to suave, not Austin Powers. (Echoing other comments)

4) The movie was too long. Cut 20-30 minutes out.

5) I'm not sure I like the new M or Q. Judy Dench and Desmond Llewelyn were so fantastic in those roles. I am not sold on the new ones yet. The younger Q has potential to be made into something really different and they just haven't let the character develop. He's just kind of a push-over lackey for Bond now? He didn't really develop any gadgets for this movie. Smart blood? Come on.

All in all, I think Daniel Craig has added new dimension to the franchise, but this wasn't their best effort. I enjoyed it and I'm glad I saw it, but I hope they get it back on track next time around.

Agree with Gill.... I just saw it today.

Loved the opening sequence, then the re s t o f t h e m o v i e w a s s o m e t h i n g l e s s....

BUT I watched it at an iPic which means that I had a Hendricks gin martini to start, bottle of Prosecco on ice, BBQ chicken flatbread and coffees to finish (skipped dessert) all while reclining in a frkn lounger. Which means that whenever a movie becomes questionable I can just adjust the blood/alcohol ration and STILL be happy :icon_thumleft:

Anyhoo... I see the Bond series as an ebb and flow. This has been true throughout the series. Which means this was just another Quantum. No need to panic... (yet):eek3dance:

Saw it tonight. Thought it was entertaining.

Certainly no Casino Royale (best bond ever IMO),

But it ticked all the Bond boxes for me.

Little niggles for me:

Car chase too long (although the DB10 is fcuking sweet)

Main girl not hot enough.

Easy from the beginning to tell who the bad guys were.

Overall Daniel Craig still a great Bond.

in my opening post I said I liked it much. But you have shooted it through with holes lol.

Anyway, they ruined car chase by putting super hard compound tyres to DB10, because stuntdrivers said "it had too much grip".

So it slides horrifically in every bend, yet car following it turns sharp. That was a let down for me, not realistic at all and gives feeling that DB10 is shitty car.

Yes the hard tyres on a car not in production in a film about a spy with a license to kill being chased by a henchman (who was a wrestler in his past job) for a evil global organisation chases him through the streets of an Italian city were the bits that ruined it. Those tyres... yes, the tyres.

Sure, but I get his point. The car's turns were almost comical as it was too rigid. In the end of the day the creators of the movie did more to get one out of 'the experience' than to keep him in IMO. Perhaps we'll see a return to a more realistic/Bourne style James Bond in the next installment.

:iamwithstupid: Hahahahaha

Let us not forget, from a car chase sins perspective, they have done a whole lot worse:
