rampante Report post Posted January 12, 2016 The Huracan's paint code label reads: Verde Mantis L-Z6A .... The Lamborghini literature says this is a pearl paint; the PPG computer says it's not a pearl paint and shows no pearl in the paint's (blend) components. I am just trying to get some touch-up paint, and various suppliers all say the same thing: "Not pearl paint"! Any ideas? I believe it will be a nightmare to touch up, when I looked at the color I thought it was pearl, at least it looks like that. Ronnie Report post Posted January 13, 2016 I got a bottle of touch-up from the dealer when I bought the car so they are available.
LSHG Report post Posted January 24, 2016 Verde Mantis is the 4-layer pearl effect paint. I took a pic at the dealership.
Scotty Report post Posted January 24, 2016 Yes, definitely. I looked at one the other day, it's an amazing color.
djantlive Report post Posted January 24, 2016 I think it is pearl, tri coat as Lambo puts it. For touch up, you are just applying the color coat. That is the second coat. So it doesn't matter what it is called. Pearl paint job means the color coat is much thinner than regular metallic. Therefore, more coats of the color paint has to be applied. The color saturation and depth varies from car to car based on number of color coats. The color coats alone can take 4-5 hours to apply. This is why tri coat costs more and really pops. There isn't a 4th coat. You have primer, color and clear coats. That's it.
VCR Report post Posted January 24, 2016 ^Agreed with 1 slight exception: according to Lamborghini SpA, 2 colours are in quad-coat: Blu Nethuns and Rosso Efesto, which very closely resemble Monterey Blue and Rosso Vic. The very slight variances are the result of the different mixture of the 2 colour coats. It's very costly and time-consuming to make which was why Lamborghini announced the termination of these 2 colours 2 years ago. But demand had make Lambo retracted on that decision and both colours are still available through Ad Personam. I am no automotive paint expert but the afore-said is direct info. from the factory. Verde Mantis, Verde Ithaca, Arancio Borealis and Giallo Midas are all tri-coat paints.

Ronnie, Did you ever do a test of the paint they supplied, against the actual car's paint?

VCR Report post Posted January 27, 2016 VCR, do you know if Rosso Bia (the new red on the SV) is a tri-coat or a quad coat? I don't think it's either; it's similar to a pearl paint but with larger metallic flakes. Tri-coat/Quad-coat has a certain sheen to them which actually shifts hue from different light source and/or viewed from a certain angle. Giallo Midas, for instance, has a green sheen when viewed from one angle. I had seen Rosso Bia in the real up close and it has neither a sheen nor a different hue. It does have plenty of metallic sparkle though.

Ronnie Report post Posted January 28, 2016 Ronnie, Did you ever do a test of the paint they supplied, against the actual car's paint? Yes the paint does match from what I can tell. I used it on the bottom of the front bumper.
