Again, it's an internet message board about cars where I am participating in a conversation "among friends". If my opposing view is so threatening/offensive to you guys that you feel that you have to ban me, when I have not really thrown any real insults or trolled anyone, rather, was being trolled- Then quite frankly, you're doing me a favor. I raised my views because this is a "conversation" and the interaction is interesting. You see= it's okay to disagree with someone. I have no issues with anyone's different view. I'll even listen to it and try to understand it from their side! It's a quality that seems to be more prevalent on the liberal side of things. Tolerance. Understanding. Reasoning. They're all great and why I am still here.

 

Some of you Like Trump, some of you do not. Some of you like dogs, some like cats. It would be a pretty boring place if we all thought the same. Interacting with the people who took the time to share their thoughts respectfully, honestly- has changed my life/view. THose of you who attack me.. lol.. These are great vids and I completely understand/agree.

 

There are a few things that were said over and over though. Talking about resentment and jealousy... etc.. (points back at the woe is me claims)

 

That is not my angle. I am not resentful of those who have done well. I'm not resentful of any of you because you all have multiple Lamborghinis. I merely am stating that some things about the world are F'd and those things seem like they could be changed with a bit of effort from everyone.

 

That is completely wishful thinking though. That's like saying, "We could end all war if only people could learn to get along." No society built on the concept of everyone being good has ever worked. They fail, very badly. The only thing you can do is create a society that is designed based off of the knowledge that people act in their own interests and look out for themselves. You can emphasize that people SHOULD be good and act to help others when they can, but the actual structure of the society has to be based on people acting in their own interest.

 

The result is the type of society that functions the least badly out of the alternatives. There is a saying: "Market capitalism works badly because of humans. Socialism works badly because of socialism."

 

Again, you'd have to walk in my shoes to see what I'm talking about. I've already overshared about the obstacles we have overcome.. It shouldn't have to be that hard. This is why I have no issue with paying out tax dollars.. sure, i'd rather keep it- but if my tax dollars go to someone who is down on their luck, trying to 'bust a move' and better themselves (like we were, not ten years ago)- so be it. Money well spent.

Plenty of things "shouldn't" have to be hard, but are. That is life. There are various things that could be improved policy-wise to ease things up, but other things are hard just because that is how reality is. Tax dollars that are well-worth the money spent can be fine, the reason many don't like paying taxes is because there can be a lot of waste in the system as well.

 

Keep in mind that for how hard you may have it, I'll bet you have it pretty easy and really nice compared to a majority of the people living on the planet right now and the majority of people who have lived in the past, who had to deal with things like plague, their wife dying in childbirth, their children dying soon after, crop failures, fighting off invading armies/other tribes/etc...I read an article a few years ago about men who get tricked into traveling to Dubai to work to send money home to their families. Their passports get taken away and they become trapped. It was interesting because I was at a lower point in my life and was thinking how any of those guys would kill to have my troubles. There are lots of people who have to get by on less than $1 a day, who have lack of food, proper sanitation, deal with diseases, etc...who (and I am not trying to be mocking) would probably fall over laughing if they saw your life and saw you saying how hard it is.

Side note (regarding a free market economy) - in the case of the Rockefeller monopoly in the 1880's, would other businesses be created/people thrive if the government didn't regulate/intervene? How big do you think Rockefeller would have gotten? Would it crumble like the Roman Empire?

 

Overall, I think free market economies contains aspects that can benefit society, but it can spiral out of control unless controlled/watched (which I suppose wouldn't make it 100% free..).

What do you mean that you think free market economies "do" have "some" place in society? A free-market economy is the only form of economic system that works for a society. For those parts of society where you think the government should provide services, where do you think the government gets the revenues to provide them?

 

As for free market economies spiraling out of control if not controlled or watched, government regulation is needed yes, but the problem is that the GOVERNMENT itself can spiral out of control if not controlled or watched as well. And government regulation meant to prevent or fix problems in the market can often do the opposite. Regulate too much for example and you create an environment ripe for big businesses to take over and get into bed with the government.
