norcal2 Report post Posted April 18, 2017 Im with you, I can afford to have someone else do things..but I enjoy doing them myself! Hi Guys, So.. when I need the lawn mowed, I hire the lawn mower guy. As its not worth my time, nor do I enjoy doing it. The Lambo is different... It's my new baby. So if my baby has an issue, im going to investigate myself. I love my car, so I got stuck into it myself. I cannot express the feeling I got, to have not only found the fault. But to fix it as well. I have since done an oil change and filter, and air filter service. And it took under an hour. Again, the feeling I got from it, was awesome. Next will be the clutch... Im looking forward to the challenge. To bond with the car, to really KNOW my car... It's exciting.. But I know this is not for everyone. Thanks for reading. Wow, didnt realise how touchy the rich lazy people are. I kinda of didnt make my point, or did I? I couldnt have put it better myself Supa, nor did I. Yea, let the lawn mower man do his job, unless thats your thing also but when it comes to your 'baby' as you so rightly put it, unless it needs the more technical stuff like having the ECU remapped etc, doing work like you did gets you more in touch with the car and IS an awesome feeling - its not all about saving coin. A lot of owners have the money to buy anything, whoopty f@#$'n doo, lucky you but when you get into more than filling the tank or just pushing the start button, thats real and not just a 'my wallet is bigger than yours' bullshit. I fitted a SC to my last car and that was just mind blowing knowing it was all ME and not just a shop job. I'm looking at a TT setup for my G, it actually looks easier than the SC job I did but - and this IS partly a money thing - why the hell would I want to send my car halfway around the world to get it done by the likes of UGR - ABSOLUTELY nothing against the UGR boys as they are the bomb when it comes to this type of work but its just not smart sense. Chill people and have fun in ya rides.
Supa Report post Posted April 24, 2017 I know we are getting a little off topic here. But I LOVE the fact that Im starting to really know my vehicle. I loved the fact that I can do a full oil and filter change in under 30 mins. The satisfaction is what gives me the buzz. As you stated, you did the SC... The fact YOU did that with your bare hands... You see, THATS the key (But it;s not for everyone of course and I respect that). Murcie612 Report post Posted April 24, 2017 Exactly, on point, the only thing I can "sell" is my time if the mechanic is $100 an hour and my time is worth $1000 why would I even contemplate it? They will then say, use your spare time, almost none available and that's extremely valuable to me because I use it to recharge. The other point I would like to make, I hate taking jobs away from people, we are all an intricate and required part of this massive "organism" I just like to stick with my part and allow you to stick with yours. Either way I'd would rather be a lazy rich guy than a whiny, frustrated individual. I wish everyone thought this way! And I love the last part lol
