Yea I'm down pretty big too -- we both said a "pullback' was on the table -- funny thing is, the indices aren't THAT DOWN -- yesterday the indices where UP, yet I took a beating. At this moment, they are down slightly, yet, I'm taking another beating.

As for where to put the cash, CASH might be the best -- interest rates/money market accounts are now paying 3%+ ... also Emerging Market Bonds; high risk but higher return + takes advantage of a weak dollar.

Good time to be shorting stocks. I made about 2k shorting MITSY. In at 217, out today at 208. :supz:

Currently looking into shorting MYOG. Big news today causing a huge run-up of $8.51 with analysts predicting a $40 price. Currently it's at $22.

Still investigating though. Will see where it closes and watch the after hours trading tonight.

OK FOLKS... Looks like the gulf of mexico oil rigs are going to be wiped out by the hurricane... At least off line for a while... I see this as causing a back-up in refining and production...

Anybody have some sure fire oil buys??? that WONT be lowered by the destruction? (if we could get a concensus in the next 12 hours that would be nice)

I have put in after hour bids for:

BPT (Alaskan Oil)

PVX (our old canadian friend)

HAL (Oil service/ pipeline builders)

NOV (Supplies oil well/ rig equipment)

So hard to say...in the "real" world supply hasn't been the problem the refineries have, so the weather cutting off rig shipments shouldn't affect anything.

But in the "commodities" world, these bastards will run oil up through the ceiling tomorrow using fear tactics and an ignorant media as weapons. They'll also get a ton of play off of Chavez' nonsense this weekend, which got a lot of press. Even Jesse Jackson sent Chavez "his support"

I think you're going to make some money E with those bids. :supz:

But I'm not with the rest of the group who believes the oil doom & gloom gets worse from here, ending up at $75+ by 1/1/06. Traders have made oil a perverse "bubble" on its own, it's risen much too fast, it will fall back eventually.

Wow, no sooner do I hit "submit" and this appears. It's already begun...so ridiculous.

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - U.S. crude oil futures surged more than $4 in opening trade on Monday, hitting a new record high above $70 a barrel after Hurricane Katrina forced Gulf of Mexico producers to shut in more than a third of their output.

Katrina, which strengthened into a rare, maximum power Category 5 hurricane as it spun through key oil and gas fields toward New Orleans, shut in a total 633,000 barrels per day (bpd), according to company figures on Sunday.

It also forced the closure of seven refineries and a major U.S. crude import terminal.

Crude oil futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) surged as high as $70.80 a barrel, up $4.67 a barrel, as traders feared lasting damage could further strain an industry that has struggled to keep up with demand for two years.

Oh boy, gonna be a rough market tomorrow. If oil follows the futures, you can the market to be broadly down tomorrow.

NOV (Supplies oil well/ rig equipment)

Think these guys would be a good buy considering the damage to those rigs that were taken out?

How about HD considering all the damage to housing and structures?

Tony,

A few weeks back I made some stock picks. Most of them are doing well with exception to NTES which I was stopped out of really quickly which prevented any big losses. I didn't rebuy because the trend reversed and it "filled the gap" which indicates weakness. Sure enough, its been trending down since.

MNKD - Up 16% since recommendation

AEIS - Up 3% since recommendation

CMCO - Up 9% since recommendation

PVX - Up 7% since recommendation

Not bad considering the market has been terribly weak. Today my portfolio is up 3/4% which is a sign of strength considering all broader markets are down.

All other recommendations I was stopped out quick, or just didn't buy.

Uh... This makes no sense...

I wouldnt TOUCH insurance companies for at LEAST 1 fiscal quarter... They will be the hardest hit by this disastor, which will make Andrew, Ivan, and the Northridge earthquakes look like joke in comparison.

Airlines??? Airlines are the hardest hit by the gas prices!

And that his will continue through the quarter AFTER oil prices drop.
