I hear on the main drag (Sheikh Zayed Road,) in Dubai there are some impressive dealerships on the main drag. Doubt you'll see much for car stuff in the Maldives? :lol2:

I doubt you will see many cars there randomly unless there is an event on, there is a lot less supercars in Dubai than say London

You could go to Ferrari world and buy some socks and gloves!

When are you out there?  I'm heading there soon for Christmas, of which they make an excellent effort, very christmassy. Could do drinks if you are around, I'm staying at Burj Al Arab

Not going to be there till next year. FerrariWorld does sound interesting.

Car stuff you'll see plenty of cars in the valet parking section/parking garage at the two main malls - Dubai Mall, and Mall of the Emirates.

Dubai Mall is at the base of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. They have a water fountain show in the evening synced to music at the base of the building. The top of the building is pretty nice to see esp if you can see the sunset (buy tickets in advance to speed through the lines a bit). If you've never been up high of the Freedom Tower or Willis Tower, it would definitely be worth it, otherwise it's just another very high look out point - our depth perception is pretty poor at distinguishing extra height in tall buildings or skydiving which can be a good or bad thing, haha....

Dubai Mall has a nice aquarium inside, while Mall of the Emirates has the indoor ski slope, as far as exploring the novelty aspects of Dubai.

While both malls have good shopping, Mall of the Emirates has every single high end boutique brand known to man, and all in close proximity to each other.

The Lamborghini dealership is a sight to see from the train/E11 highway, it will be on your right as you go south, not far from the Mall of the Emirates. It's what a dream dealership would look like, so tall and airy looking.

As far as where to stay, Dubai Marina/Jumeirah Beach is pretty sweet. It's a little further south of the action but IMO nicer than the other parts you could stay at. I stayed at Sofitel in Jumeirah Beach a few weeks ago and really liked it. Saw a few Lambos passing the hotel each night, and the vibe/temperature is just right in the evening.

Car stuff - there's the Dubai Autodrome not too far from Jumeirah. It's a race track where you can do some fun track stuff and even some drifting if you like:

https://www.dubaiautodrome.com/experiences/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-ZD99Nuq3wIVArYYCh22gQDREAAYASAAEgKlmfD_BwE

I did a few days of drift training about an hour north of the airport, an excellent school if you have the time/desire (same company that does the drift experiences at the Autodrome):

http://prodriftacademy.me/

There are hotels nearby the drift school on Marjan Island which would be nice and convenient if you wanted to spend more than a day doing that.

With regards to Ferrari World, that's in Abu Dhabi which is about 2 hours south of Dubai. I didn't go to Ferrari World but a friend did recently and liked it. It's very close to Yas Marina F1 race track which has track stuff you can do as well.

Lastly, as far as SIMs go, there is Du and Etisalat....I've had better luck using Du for my phone/data needs.

Dubai is a bit plasticky like Vegas, but it's cool in its own right and everyone should see it at least once!

I actually did Dubai->Maldives a few years back on Emirates. It was one amazing trip. There's tons to do in Dubai, you'll never run out of options and it's been covered above. Love the Maldives, where are you staying? Are you taking a speed boat or float plane to your resort?

Came home from my trip to Dubai /Maldives last week.  Emirates first class is amazing.  Dubai is complete and total dogshit. Would never go back. Maldives was fantastic.  Will go again, but this time skip Dubai and go through Singapore.

Dubai.. Lets see... first and foremost hated the people.   Then everything else is done for show. For example, go to Palm Island, and yes in the pictures it looks beautiful , its man made, its shaped like a palm tree etc etc. When you are on it, it feels no different then anything else, and places like the Atlantis feel like Atlantis in the Bahamas, but without the casino, and any pretty girls.  Thats basicly how all of it felt, like Vegas, without any of the things that you love about Vegas.  The Lambo dealer for example, massive 3 or 4 story building. Go inside, they had 3 cars for sale. 2 Huracans, and an Aventador S.

There is hardly anyone native to Dubai there? Its such a mix of people there is no universal culture, which is a bit odd, the rest is staff training as to how to respond. The only reason its popular is that its not a long or particularly expensive flight from Europe and you are guaranteed beach, good weather and food year round and it looks good in pictures more so than in reality.

I like and have been a few times, but expect nothing from it as a holiday except sun and food. The place is manufactured and feels it but if you have kids that's a great thing as you know exactly what you are getting and its all pretty good as its so new. Adults only I'm bored after a few days as its not that interesting.

Why did you hate the people so much?

The people are trash.  They walk around in there ninja outfits and give you the stare down.  One guy while walking and texting walked right into me , and then started yelling at me. Of-course I started to yell back and my wife had to pull me away.  They walk around like rules dont apply to them, for example the mall so busy they have a line for the escalator, everyone waiting in line, they walk to the front and cut in front of everyone . The security guard wont say shit to them. Waiting for an elevator , same thing. Just cut to the front.  Never hold a door open, never say thank you to any of the workers (whom they treat horribly btw) . Out of all the places traveled , Ive found it to top my list of hated places.

Looks like someone is new to the Middle East....hehe.

The experiences Allan wrote about are typical of how it is in the GCC. IMHO, only Arabs can be looked at as equals by other Arabs.....westerners tolerated, and the support staff from the east are treated like garbage. I could pass for Arabic and have been spoken to in Arabic in random places in the Middle East probably a dozen times over a two year period, and as soon as I could not communicate to them in their language they immediately stopped talking and turned away, somewhat abruptly. I understand maybe not wanting to speak English, but FFS some decency and respect with maybe a head nod or smile and excusing one's self.

Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain were all rather similar in this context. The UAE is the nicest all around of these countries from a visitor's standpoint, so it's pretty funny to see someone trash it hard when it used to be an escape every few months.

I misunderstood what you were moaning about, but would agree Emirati’s are entitled and arrogant to all but other Arabs, luckily you don’t run into them very often on holidays.

I will say that we spent a few days at the Al Maha resort, and that was a great time.  No locals, just workers and tourists.  We had an amazing hut with our own pool over looking the desert with an oasis right outside. The food and service was outstanding.  Id wake up at 6am to play with the falcons. We went on a camel ride to watch the sunset and drink champagne.  We went offroading. Its kind of like being on a safari, without all the animals. They did have gazelles all around the resort that were super cute and friendly.

In Dubai ate at Nusr-et, which even though he's a cunt we did have a good time and the food was great.  Funny that in the one in Miami, SaltBae would feed the women, vs here they only feed the men. When they seat you, they pull out the chair for the man, not the woman everywhere. Ate at the top of Burj Khalifa , that was ok.  Views amazing, food soso. I had a $100 burger and left most of it.  Tons of hookers at all the hotels. Even though they say they dont drink, all the good restaurants are at hotels, and they all serve alcohol.  Never saw any of the extreme cars you always see pic of, just lots of Lambos.. Huracans and Aventadors and lots of Urus.  The Dubai mall is massive, you can get a rolls royce gold cart to drive you around .  The mall with the Ski slope is pretty ghetto. Everything looks better in pictures. Funny to see the woman dressed head to toe in garbage bags ( some without even a mailbox slit to see out of) shopping at all the fancy boutiques. Wtf is the point.

Definitely looks like he is.

Talk about a longer trip though. Singapore is 18+ hours non-stop from Newark, NJ....~22 hours in flight if you break it up NYC to Tokyo, then Tokyo to Singapore.....so typically 24-25 hours.

Emirates can get you from west coast USA to Dubai in about 16-17 hours non stop......~12-13 from NYC.

I believe Dubai to Maldives is comparable to Singapore to Maldives....~5 hours.

Had the same experiences in Dubai (Vegas without the fun)

Calling the locals ninjas, garbage bags, mailbox slit etc. is pretty crass, don't you think?

Perhaps you had a really bad time/interaction.
