BLK85 Report post Posted January 9, 2019 http://www.thedrive.com/news/25799/california-is-so-tired-of-your-cars-loud-fartcan-that-they-will-now-fine-you-for-it So now if you have a modified exhaust you get a $1,000 fine. But how do they know if its modified? They also have a decibel limit of 95db, which Im sure a good amount of stock cars probably violate. Anyone get pulled over for it yet? Kevin2772 Report post Posted January 9, 2019 I saw a pullover video where the cop wrote the driver the $1000 ticket and basically rationalized the law by saying that all the street racing incidents have occurred with people who have similar modifications. So basically any exhaust mod means your fast and furious street racer. Seems logical.....

RDW Report post Posted January 9, 2019 crap, I hope this doesn't come north to British Columbia, under our illustrious NDP socialist provincial Government they will probably want to follow suit...

emanon Report post Posted January 10, 2019 As much as I hate the idea of another oppressive law, the clarifications posted by the CHP make it far less draconian. If your car has straight pipes and no cats, it's probably going to draw some attention. But unless a cop just wants to fcuk with you (always a possibility), a nice exhaust on your lambo or porsche isn't likely to be an issue. Truthfully, if it gets rid of the ricer fart cans, subarus with straight pipes you can hear for blocks, and those dickheads on harleys with open headers, I'm all for it. We get it, you're a 47yr old cpa in a midlife crisis who jerks off to sons of anarchy reruns, but dont punish the rest of us. Those guys are all just fcuking assholes. Actual VC and fines. Loud exhausts are annoying. Most of them aren't even on worthy cars. CA >
JanDaMan Report post Posted January 11, 2019 Looks like the new law states the fine will be issued for “excessive or unusual” exhaust noise for $1,000 fine and a visit to the state referee. Seems like it’s based on the officers opinion. My Panteras won’t fare well though Laguna, Newport, Huntington.
TestShoot Report post Posted January 12, 2019 Well, my Fiat 500 Abarth is loud but has yet to attract the coppers which baffles me. Everyone assumes it has a modified exhaust, such noise from a tiny car surely must be modified.

I was amazed at how awesome those little cars are.

Ive looked at 500s as a super cheap daily to lease. When I looked, the deals didnt seem that great. Maybe they are better now. This absurdity makes it that much more fun to drive 10/10ths.
