Very happy Venezuela is changing

I am not political and this is great - US just fcuking Maduro, so swift, so quick. He's probably on that plane back to Russia/Turkey right now to live as an ex-dictator.  The thing to understand is that Ive dated a Venezuelan gf 8 years ago and shit was bad THEN, and it was getting exponentially worse by month. I saw a report from 6 months ago from a guy who travels to the worst places as a videoblogger and he was impressed with how fucked Venezuelan people's lives were. So there is no downside, none, for the people of that country. I understand its a money play for the countries involved, but for once the citizens have everything to gain.

Corrupt socialistic government ruined what could have been the richest country in South America with the 2nd largest oil reserves in the world . Chavez should have been executed , he got off easy with cancer and Maduro is the dumbest  biggest crook than has held office in Venezuela

Not just Chavez but probably most of his family.  His 30 something year old favorite daughter was reportedly the wealthiest person in Venezuela after his death (~$4 billion IIRC).  Amazes me how some people claim we need socialism because of income inequality, but income inequality in places with the most socialism is a million times worse than what exists under capitalism.  Then when you point out all the historical examples of what has occurred under socialist regimes (including mass murder), they say "Oh but that wasn't really socialism" or "that wasn't true socialism."  So I gather socialism works great on paper, but is an abject disaster in real life.

Maduro was denied a withdraw of over 1 billion USD in gold from banks in England. That would make for a bad day. Hopefully, the cash makes it back to whom it was stolen from.

When people say they want to ban private gun ownership in the US while at the same time complaining about how our government is becoming fascist or whatever buzzword they are using to describe Trump...I have to just shake my head.

"Venezuela crisis: UN says security forces killed hundreds"

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-44575599

Reminds me of a Tom Wolfe quote:  Fascism is always descending on the United States yet lands only in Europe.

I've been to Cuba. Canada doesn't have an embargo. It was easy to meet Women there. But it was sad buying them a meal. They'd take a small bite and then wrap up the rest to share with their families. After going, I hated socialism/communism even more.  Hoping Venezuela can be rescued.

South America has so much potential on paper when you think of the natural resources of Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, etc. but the people have allowed the government they have and there's little that could be done about it.

Bolsonaro in Brazil is drawing many parallels to Trump (and a friendship), so it should be interesting to track what happens there over the next few years.

Sad, but so true.

I can only imagine the horrors they are dealing with right now.

You simpletons…I was born in Hungary and later came to the us with my father…so I do know a thing or 2 about socialism !

I also served in Vietnam as a medic with the us army…so I know a thing or 2 about Capitalism/Imperialism

And now I am a citizen of Canada…

I have had a winter home in Curacao for 19 years and have visited Venezuela on many occasions !

Those of you who think that Leopoldo López and his right-wing common-people haters are the answer; should crawl back into your holes !

Paul, sounds like you've had quite the life. Would love to hear more about your experiences.

When you said you left Hungary with your father, did you guys emigrate because of the communist government pre or post the 56' revolution?

I'm sure Vietnam as a medic was beyond description horrible.

I haven't seen anyone mention Lopez here. Where does he stand in relation to Guaido? Lopez is still under house-arrest, no? Is he supportive of Guaido or in opposition to him as well?

No doubt though, the current circumstances for the citizens are beyond horrible. Definitely the expected outcome of communist (socialist) policies.

It was towards the end of the conflict…so there wasn’t as much “blood and guts” as say in 1968…and you lived in the mud in tents…unlike today when you have nice air conditioned gyms in theatre.

What one remembers was the increasing number of “planners” from Saigon who would fly-in look around… and go right back to the comforts of Saigon
