Lamborghini Polo Storico at the “Concorso d’Eleganza Kyoto 2019”

 

This past week in Kyoto, Japan, Lamborghini had quite a showing in conjunction with the third edition of the “Concorso d’Eleganza Kyoto 2019.”

There were 54 vehicles that entered the competition, with 22 of them being Lamborghini’s in the gardens of the Nijo Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The three classes for Italian marque were Lamborghini 1963-1970, Lamborghini 1971-1985, and Lamborghini 1986-2000. Twenty of the cars fell into these three categories, while the last two competed in the Contemporary and the Race and Prototypes categories.

 

 

“Best of Show” for the Concorso d’Eleganza Kyoto 2019 was the “Race and Prototype” Lamborghini 3500GTZ (chassis no. #0310). It was a unanimous decision among judges. This car had an extensive write-up on it years ago in the Lamborghini Club America magazine.

Top honors in the ‘63-’70 group was the 1971 Miura SV (chassis no. #4838), a previous winner of “Best in Show” at the  Concours d’Élégance Neuchâtel” in 2017.

For the ‘71-85 class, the 1975 Countach LP400 (chassis no. #1120186) would take “Most Desirable to Drive.”

A 2000 Diablo GT (chassis no. #ZA9DE21A0YLA12490) won the ‘86-2000 segment.

At the conclusion of the Concorso, Lamborghini Club America had a three-day drive event that toured the region on which included the Seto Bridge towards the island of Awaji, and returned back to Kyoto.

 

It appears that Lamborghini Polo Storico, essentially a heritage-focused arm of the company, will continue to prepare events around the globe annually. So keep your eyes peeled for more vintage-focused events.

Did anyone take advantage of the the factory offer to help pick up some of the costs of the event if you brought a car over? Still expensive, but it sounded really fun.  Have your car shipped over and tour around Japan after participating in the show. I have seen a couple events like this, and they always get me daydreaming.....

Good question. I wondered that as well. Still expensive, but man what a great opportunity. 

To participate at the event under full Lambo escort would be as ideal a trip as it can get.  To tour on your own afterward is another story.  It's ok to travel between cities but within the cities themselves, the navigation and the roads would be a nightmare.  Another thing to factor in is all the highways are tolled and they are charged by the sections so there are plenty of tollbooths along the way.  Japan drives on the left side of the road so if you have a low-slung LHD-car, stopping to pay for toll charges will be a very challenging task; and that's even when the toll attendants have the tools to collect the fees from a LHD vehicle.
