  1. whilst I'm aware there are a lot of "optimistic" dynos out there, and I will be doing another run or two next year in different venues to compare, Im pretty sure this was accurate to within 15hp.

It is important to note that early catalytic converters really strangled cars, even today a decat is the cheapest performance mod you can make for real hp gains. hence why the diablo (with a far superior efi setup to the countach anniversary) only managed 492bhp from 5.7 litres with cats, as against 455 from 5.2 for the Countach.

It would be interesting to do a back to back test on a stock diablo with its cats on and with them bypassed.

FYI this car uses coilpacks, 6 twin jenvey throttlebodies, non-stock fuel pumps, free flow airfilters and a sports exhaust.

  2. Dude, we need to reengineer it to 17" , go through load, side impact, frontal impact, salt spray testing, fatigue testing, run out test.... All to make sure the darn thing is safe... Its not a assemble in 3 days 3 piece that will look nothing like the original...I don't want any of my ct brethren to suffer a wheel failure man...

While you're at it, get some guys together so I can amortize the cost out. It's gonna cost some deniro... If there are enough people to make it happen, I'll move forward...

I don't mean to sound stupid, but was this ever done in the 1970's, 80's or even 90's? I would have thought that quality control in the production process would be more important?

what is the current estimate (ballpark) to go from "now" to "Design completed, all above testing done, everything signed off, ready to produce"?

    btw:

And why do some people continue to knock the kitcar guys? very few of them could ever afford a genuine Countach, and with fewer than 1500 (?) ever made, there simply aren't enough to go around!

They but love the design, are a source of parts (nobody tries harder to find out where Lamborghini sourced the original parts), inspiration, their cars can be driven without worrying about hideous maintainance / repair costs, and without them, demand for some parts (345 tyres??) might never be high enough to justify production..

Yes there are some horrific ones (beetle chassis etc), but the majority (at least here in Europe) are serious bits of kit. Many in the Uk use a Chassis designed by Lee Noble...

  3. Thank you very much for your answer: I never saw a QS with my eyes, but in pictures looks better finished. As the loud sound, i'm very happy of my one: i like it very much and that is the correct Countach sound i remembered from youth.

But let me say one thing: Countach is an hand made car, with disappointing wrong aligned body panels: did you ever see how they fitted the roof to the car? they used an hammer!

I wanted to own that old hand made italian supercar, not a by far better, faster and more modern Gallardo.

So, in my personal opinion, the hand made official factory option Ansa Sport is the "perfectly fitting" exhaust for that car, and if it does not perfectly fit to the car (like my trunk lid and many other car pieces), means it's the correct one.

Otherwise i had to put on the car a better big rear wing (i think they could not make a worse rear wing than the OEM one), throw away those shitty Weber carbs and put on the ten times better Mikuni, replace those ridicolous brakes with some real brakes and so on...

But that assembly would be no more a Countach, that is a piece of history and the more it is oem, the better is for me.

I'm sure this is not your taste, but this is my point of view. I think QS is probably better built, but that USA exhaust is not a Lamborghini piece: Countach weared THAT Italian made exhaust, the USA one is just a copy. Tubi? a Maranello made exhaust for my Lambo? Never!

I respect your opininion, of course: this is just an exchange of point of view, you are very pleasant in your writing and i learned a lot of things from your post.

    ciao

Agree with most of what you have said, although I don't think there is anything wrong with making changes, especially if Lamborghini might have done the same if they had only had the money.

I am still surprised that Lamborghini didn't change to 17" wheels (and the bigger brakes they would have allowed) when they became available.

I am getting some 17" wheels made, as I want to fit better brakes, and I'm fed-up with the tyre situation

Lamborghini disliked the wing so much, its amazing that they didn't improve it, (possibly because it wasn't homologated?)

I've removed my wing, and would only replace it with a less-draggy variant

Lamborghini did (eventually) change to fuel injection, I don't know much about the different carbs, except that I struggled to find anyone who could set them up properly.

I have recently gone further and replaced my DD carbs with Jenvey throttlebodies, although you can't see any visual difference as I've kept the original inlet manifold & airbox (they are effectively a direct swap). I also changed to coil packs and mapped ignition at the same time, because my Distributor was on the way out (and damned expensive to replace), but primarily because fuel is so damned expensive over here (£1.43 a litre), and I'm hoping to improve my running costs as well as gain a few more Bulls under the bonnet....

I have a sports exhaust, I don't know which one, although it looks like the QS/Ansa, so the only change I would make is the headers as I believe (rightly or wrongly) that they can be improved on (better flow/bhp etc)

We're all fans of the Countach so its no surprise we have strong opinions, but I respect the opinion of any owners (those who drive them, at least...), we are all friends on here...... :icon_pidu:

  4. Yeah. I was diagnosed with early stage colon cancer in January. January 21st to be precise. At 12:15 pm if you want to get technical.

Anyways. After about 5 months of sweating various opinions we finally got the all clear that the cancer was contained to the removed polyp.

Bloody glad to hear you have the all-clear!

Got myself checked couple of years ago, might get it rechecked...

  5. When I first saw a picture of the Sest Elemento concept car I was sold immediately, and really looking forward to seeing the as yet unnamed Murcielago replacement,

Imagine: a super lightweight all carbonfibre car, allied to an all new V12 engine, with a presence rivalling the Countach.. finally the car first suggested by the 1988 Evolutzione. :monkeyleft:

but the first news of the Aventador left me cold, WAY too heavy, more a long distance GT than a Lamborghini "take-no-prisoners style" hypercar,

    why??

Cos someone worked out there were at least 20 people willing (and able) to pay $2 million for the real deal...

wish I was one of them... :crybaby2:

  6. I'm wondering how much Countach's are driven, as it appears (to me at least) that an increasing number of supercars rarely, if ever leave hibernation.

Last year I attended an charity fundraiser at a well known track, and it became obvious that some of the cars were not driven very often, as evidenced by their speed through corners (I nearly rear ended a Porsche Carrera GT when he passed me at the end of a straight, only to then tiptoe through a hairpin, and I simply couldn't brake that hard!)

Lastly on some forums, various speakers have suggested that "x" is too many miles for car "y". But I wonder how mileage affects the Countach?

I'm not particularly worried about my mileage because:

    i) the QV appears well built and mechanically very strong.

ii) I've heard that at least one Countach has passed 100,000 miles,

ii) I'm planning to keep the car until I die, not until its worth millions,

So basically I'm asking how much your Countach is driven annually and its total mileage (roughly)

This is purely for interest, and as I haven't made a poll before so hope it works!

  7. In may 1985, English magazine Motor had their hands on enthusiast Barry Robinsons winged red QV. On a banked circuit they achived a mere 155,1 mph (corner MIGHT rub og 5 mph). On a bit later test with the same car on the autobahn, it reached a tad over 160 mph. Since the car was supposed to top 183, they was of course not happy, so they dropped the wing with the result that they now managed 167,9. It had a bit more to give they thought, but the oil lamp was alight, so they backed off. IF they had gone for it, they thougt it would max at 170. Not more.

AND as for the dream of 200mph. MIRA put the car in their windtunel, and their discovery was that the car with no wing would need 600bhp to reach 200. They allso confirmed that with 455 it should reach 183 witch it not did, so I guess the aerodynamics really suck. As for directional stability they noticed no change under speed.

Hi, do you know any more details of the MIRA test? did they suggest or try any improvements?

would love to have some actual figures rather than the guesstimates often bandied about!

  8. Didn't know a Countach could launch so hard! Did the BB driver know the course or did he just follow the blue and black smoke trail?

Looks like a damned soft launch to me! ou can hear it bog down, a Ct launched hard is a sight & sound to behold, then again, as others have mentioned, its sounds rough (although I've only got experience with the 4-valve engine) and is being babied.

    Not that we're biased, tho......

  9. I always thought that was the cross over for the radiators.

    I guess I learned something.

Looks a bit scary right next to the half shafts.

I'm not worried about the half shaft, much more concerned about being clobbered by some twit (probably because he's busy trying to take photos...). Then, Because thats the very rear of the chassis and nothing beyond it is structural it looks like the pipe could easily be crushed or split and dump upto 120 litres of fuel, and with the exhaust that close.....

  10. I hope they actually make it. They were supposed to do a Cannoball car with double wing and a few others that never got produced. Kyosho has been a lil shady lately about their releases..

I wish they'd do the cannonball car, complete with the two beauties.. :monkeyleft:

on a serious note I'd want a QV 88.5 (with sideskirts), but I'd probably have better luck getting someone to make a set of skirts to add to the model!

  11. If someone eliminated the fitting to clamp the hose on to and just made it onto the hose make sure it has the correct end to mate with the cooler. Most of those small adapter fittings I have seen are just standard flare or inverted flare, and if there is no o ring that sounds right. You could have also previously had a issue someone tried to fix with a non oil resistant sealant, which would explain why it is so stuck and eventually started to leak for no reason.

You will probably need to measure the size of the nut and go to your local tool house. Once you pull it I imagine it should be pretty clear what the issue is.

I've managed to undo the leaky connection, but cannot see anything obvious, been trying to remove the other line so that I canremove the cooler & bad hose (which disappears down towards the sump) to a specialist to test..

  12. Which hose or connector is leaking? Here is the diagram showing the oil cooling circuit. Hopefully it isn't the cooler itself that has cracked at the fitting.

    Mike

Its no 38, however on my car the hoses are one piece with swaged(?) ends, so I can't just undo a Jubilee clip.

Beginning to think about cutting through the s/s hose 'cos supposed to be using her at an event to raise funds for charity this weekend...

  13. I have a leak from the joint between the hose & the cooler, I've managed to undo it, however I can't see a problem.

Am I correct in thinking that the seal is made between the metal parts, ie there is no rubber seal??

The other hose seem to have been tightened up by God, I don't have a 27mm Crowfoot spanner, Ideas?

    Qestions:

    1) What is the correct size spanner to use, I think its 27mm, tried 28 but it was too big.

    2) what is the correct size hose to buy, 0.5"ID??

    3) Are size/fitting are the unions? JIC or BSP???

  14. Front are the L brackets for a 5000s (1982), but the bar (#001613521) that holds the battery in is missing from photo. The brackets in the rear of the picture are for the front signals. There's a rebuild thread of the whole car with pictures I will pm you.

This is an older photo I remembered seeing, hope it helps.

    **Edit

Parts diagrams, 19 is the support and 20 is the bracket.

Hi, does anyone have a pictre of part no19 (p/no 001611379) hey can post so that I can make a new one 'cos mines missing!!

  15. I've had a number of electrical issues, identified as being caused by a poor earth, I have started cleaning the earth points as i find them, however I have no idea how many there are.

I seem to remember once reading that someone had a list of where all the earth points on the Countach are, however i can't find it.

    Does anyone know?

    cheers

    Jonathan

  16. yep. that is how they should all run. would be nice to know who maintains that car and tunes it.

She sounds great, but unfortunately I killed the brakes earlier that day and was having to take it easy...

Shes maintained by CarreraSport (Mike Pullen) in Haywards Heath, UK

  17. Added power steering to the CT?? How long until he converts it to automatic?

Gheyyyyyy. Even worse than the power steering added to Daytonas. :eusa_wall:

I can understand the power steering (adjustable )to a degree, the roads in the UK are a LOT narrower and twistier than in the US, and parking is a nightmare. If I had to regularly drive in london I'd want it!

Parking on most occaisions in the UK means paralell parking in a gap little bigger than the car, one of the few things i envy about the US is the size of roads and ease of parking.

I physically can't park in the local shopping centre without using two spaces...
