  1. A few updates on my SV. Car got serviced in the UK at Universal Classic Cars (where its being stored). Total bill came out to a little over $5k USD with VAT and that includes:

    - Respray on bumper underside

    - All new tires

    - Major service (all new fluids, plugs, etc.)

    - Fixing sticking handbrake cable

    - Checking valve clearance (in spec)

    - Fixing passenger side window and getting a new pass switch

The shop was servicing a Diablo GT at the same time and captured some cool photos. Very reasonable rates and the guys were very helpful. They seem to treat the exotics in their possession like a day-care more than a car storage hahahaa.

  2. I've sold a few cars on BaT (Miata Turbo, Ferrari 456 GTM, 2001 BMW M5), won one, and have chatted w/ Randy a number of times (cofounder). I did a lot of due diligence on the business itself when a PE fund contacted me to help diligence the company.

I think you've just got to know the audience you're participating with, and the benefits of going with such a platform. A poorly documented car gets slaughtered, Porsche people are far and away the most annoying commenters, and generally high participation and documentation gets good results.

There's fewer and fewer "deals" but thats simply because BaT has literally all the volume of online classic car buyers and so its now a fairly efficient market. I missed out on 2 Diablos, a 512TR, but eventually found a car at an overseas auction just by being patient.

Congrats and welcome to the Diablo SV club!  Your car looks great!

    D-SV, Monterey Edition here.

    Production Date: 06-1998

Mind sharing the last 4 digits of the VIN? I would imagine all Monterey editions are late '98's (this is a very very late production it looks!)

  4. Thanks! A dream come true. I lost out at auction on a 512TR with 10k miles earlier this year that went for $226k, and then felt gunshy about bidding on a US based '91 with 45k miles that sold for $130k. Happy to spend a little more and get a great spec. I'm sure it needs some work from the low mileage its done (3k km in 9 years), but UK labor rates seem to be far more reasonable than some USA specialists.

  5. I bought an EU Spec Diablo SV (when do I get an owner badge)?

I intend to bring the car into Canada, but need a few documents for the official import process. Does anyone know how to get in touch with the appropriate people at Lamborghini who can tell me the (a) Date of production (b) Model Year of the vehicle (c) original build.

I understand this was a strange time for Lamborghini as a company - so hopefully they can provide some supporting documentation to ease the process!

    Thanks -

    - Chris

  6. Was the 95 VT the RHD example in the UK? I was watching that auction carefully, very well documented car I was thinking of importing but it went on the high side of my expectations. I know the 94/95 VT's are not as fast as later models, but I actually care less about this. I think the upgrades the cars had (power steering, no double decker gauge cluster) offset some of the performance negatives so I'm indifferent between models. I care more about condition.

A 96 2WD Blue car sold close to 170k recently with 30k miles. Very rare spec, and appeared to be in good shape. Then you also have examples like Bobby Rahals '91 Black car selling for $115k.

So strange to me to figure out what a "true price" is on these classics. Anyone buying claims they're 100k and anyone selling says 200k.

  7. Can anyone inform me what actual transaction prices are for early Diablos? I see cars listed for strange prices and then see auction results are quite different. From Bring-A-Trailer, RM, Coys, and other auction houses the transaction prices seem lower than almost any active listing by a good margin. Even the white 91' on BaT sold almost $45k below its online asking price.

    It seems:

91-93's 2WD cars are selling for $115-145k ish depending on history, miles, and condition.

93-95 VT's seem to be more like $125 - 160k ish depending on history, miles, condition.

Anyone have any recent experience to suggest otherwise?

  8. Looking into buying an early 1991 Diablo or 1992 Ferrari 512TR (Poster Cars of my childhood).

I want a charismatic classic, but I've got a few questions for those that have owned one or both vehicles.

    1. Diablo Maintenance and Parts Availability:

    - What sort of maintenance costs are to be expected for 1-2.5k/year?

    - Are there "unobtainium" parts that could put the car out of service for months at a time. I've heard there are no  replacement ECU's remaining as an example.

    - What are common break points and things to watch out for?

    - How is independent service support?

    - The Ferrari seems to have cascading "belts out" services every 5 years, where an $8-10k job finds 8k worth of other work each time. I know the Diablo has chains, but any other similar "replace everything while we're here" maintenance intervals (I've heard clutch job is large).

    2. How is the car to actually drive?

    - I enjoy driving my cars. I've got a Noble M400 that I rack up tons of miles on now because its dynamically brilliant. I don't really care about being that comfortable more than the car being an event.

    - I'm looking for "an experience", I don't believe any road car is fast on the street (a $30k Radical will spank any modern car on track and you can drive it with reckless abondon that you can't when you've spent 100-200k).

    - Any owners local to San Francisco Bay Area I could buy a beer/coffee in exchange for seeing their car and talking about ownership?

    3. What are people actually paying for early Diablos?

    - List prices are all over the map

    -  Auction results (like the 30k Rahal car) seem to be about $110-150k depending on mileage. Who has bought one recently?

    Any advice much appreciated!

  9. I had a Noble M400 for a while. Really liked the car but never tracked it. You will have an issue with heat soaking the intercooler. Also, like someone else said, don’t crash it. Not that a Radical would fare much better in a crash.

    Got any pics?

    Here's some exterior shots:

Only downside to the green is shows dirt so easily, but otherwise love the british-ness of it. I TIG welded my own exhaust for the car. Not worries about heat-soak intercooler, removal of the license plate and some ducting to isolate the low pressure area behind the car help draw air out. Car also has upgraded IC

  10. Bought a Noble M12 track toy after growing faster than my track-day miata would take me. I've had it about a year, just installed larger turbos, exhaust, fuel system and had it tuned by resident noble expert.

Car dynoed at 484 whp, 422 lb ft of torque, and weighed in at 2,360 lbs with a full tank and full of fluids. Makes everything else feel heavy. Can post sheet if I get my old photo-hosting accounts back up.

  11. Hey guys -

Have a good friend who wants a TT on his 2007 G spyder e-gear. Can anyone PM details (or Jason himself) to make the intro?

FYI, he's 28 (and admittedly slightly annoying at first) but one of the other TT makers quickly dismissed him. I had a good friend who used to work at Heffner (George) and had nothing but awesome things to say, so figured that was a better place to start.
