  1. Bernard, dumb question.....Does the V8 and V10 share the same suspension set-up? If not, does the V8 handle nearly as well?

I hope TurboGallardo can give his .02 also. Thanks.

Basically the same, the V10 comes with the magnetic ride suspension standard, think it is an option on the V8. The V8 I drove wasn't so equipped, but I hardly noticed any difference.

  2. Now we are getting somewhere. This is interesting. Bernard, I like that you are saying the R8 is more comfortable, has an awesome gear box feel, and handles great. These are all pluses. You mentioned that it's not as fast as a GTT, but that's only if the motor is not built in the R8, right? I am sure a fully built R8 is going to be very fast, no??

No doubt a fully built engine will be as fast/faster than your G-TT, but if you go that route make sure you have at least two boost programs, one low, one high. It would be a shame to waste the car's handling potential by being overboosted. I can't praise this car enough, its that good. TurboGallardo has a R8 with a bolt on, ask him about it.

  3. I'll clarify, even if say a hardcore "SLS GT3" were to be produced, I'm not sure a 458/LP570-SL/MP4-12C buyer would lump it in as an option. Just such a different package being FR instead of MR, it's like debating between a 599 and a 458, you don't lump them together in the same thought process.

The people talking about the turbo advantage of the MP4-12C make a good point, once it's in the wild it will be so easy to dial it up to whatever power level you want (within reason) and that is yet another reason to select the McLaren.

I think the timing is as good as it could be, I don't think you want to make it to market first and then have a heavy hitter like the 458 drop on your lap a year or two later. I'd rather be late to the party Vroom and make a splashy entrance... :icon_mrgreen:

We are talking about marketing and at 200k, the SLS fits neatly into the same group as the MC, Fcar, and Lambo. Like the OP, I was waiting for a new G, have had mine for four years now, I was ready for something new, the SLS came around at the right time for me.

Again from a marketing perspective, the first in always grabs the lions share, garners the media attention, which implants value judgments into the general public. After the MC finally gets road tested, only car nuts like us will know how much better(or worse) it is than the 458. The typical buyer(doctor, lawyer, bizman, money man, etc) will think the Ferrari is the gold standard. Once the bias is established, its damn near impossible to change it. Just like the general board opinion about the gayass R8 :icon_mrgreen:

  4. I have put around 2k miles on R8s, the V10 and the V8 spyder, its a helluva great car, handles better than a G, more comfortable, the 6speed is the finest manual gearbox I have ever used. It terms of driving fun, handling, etc the R8 is an upgrade. I have also driven Heffner's R8TT, its nothing short of phenomenal, not as fast as a G-TT, but way more drivable, if you like the twisties.

However, the R8 is not a low key car, in my experience it was getting as much attention as my G.

  5. Loved it, like the way it starts at the beginning of prohibtion, where all of the gangsters are relative small timers, with only a few realizing how big the score will eventually be. Buscemi's character has some soul, decency, but you can see that the new business will force him to adapt his methods. The opening title sequence kicks ass. I have high hopes for this series, how can it go wrong with Scorsese directing it, Wahlberg producing.

  6. Well said Mr. Vroom. I tested one here and most def. "not a cruiser" . :icon_thumleft:

But I think as Mako said timing is perfect for the new Maclaren :icon_thumleft: We will have one dealership in Zurich :icon_super:

I will say that when it comes to city driving, Im taking the benz, mainly because of the dual clutch and the BO sound system, turn it up loud and you wont feel the bumps. :)

The timing on the Maclaren could have been better, the 458 has become the defacto benchmark, everything gets compared to it, if they beat it to the market, it could have been the other way around.

  7. I think there are more people in this same boat that appears at first glance.

The 458S is years away, as is the next Gallardo.

    So...

In the mean time there really aren't a lot of choices, despite how it appears. The 997 (and pending 998) are always love/hate cars, either you're a Porsche guy or you're not...plus it's not a Ferrari or Lambo. The SLS is a cruiser, not hardcore enough. The R8-V10 is too slow and the limited GT version has a laughable price tag for an "Audi". Nothing from Aston Martin really competes in this class of performer. Next Esprit still two or more years away from delivery.

Under that light, the McLaren begins to appear as a viable option. If it delivers a 458-equalling thrill, it will be a great alternative and seems to be hitting the market at the perfect time.

The SLS is definitely not a crusier, the ride/suspension set up falls right between my G and a R8, pretty firm overall, it makes great power, big torque, growls like a mofo, has sharp steering, dual clutch shifter, great seats(with less padding than a G) its way more hardcore than the Audi(but R8 still wins in handling), comparable to a LP 560 for visceral thrills. It will be a lot of fun on a track.

  8. Damn...the SLS got RIPPED! Seems that no one I've talked to or that I've read about is really impressed with it at all.

The author thinks the SLS was out of tune, "we know it can do better" also Stig nearly crashed it on its lap, hence the slower time.

Interesting to note they prefer the R8 to the SL on a track, due to its ability to steer with the throttle.

  9. No problem. I wanted to do a dedicated 5 minute feature for a Lambo, probably my own, because I have access to it, but I wanted to remake a second one for the TTG that would be again 2-3 minutes long.

    :icon_thumleft:

Two or three minutes is about the max, my attention span has gone to shit lately thanks to the net, lpower, etc. Suggestion, get a separate sound recorder, the go pro cams takes neat video, great angles, but the sound quality could be improved a bit, the sound and fury these G-TT cars make is not being fully captured.

  10. Horrible, a cut and paste of their Panny kit and why TWO rear spoilers?? Can't figure out the purpose of the air scoop on the roof either..... From what I have seen Brabus has the best kit so far, mainly because its understated. The SLS has a lot going on with the original design, start adding more of the typical shit, you get tacky, not classy, like I said this one is gonna be difficult to mod tastefully, but at least if you try, start with a clean sheet of paper.

  11. Porsche sold 22,000 Panameras in year one, if the Estoque bagged 5% of that market, that equals 1000 units. Lamborghini only sold 1500 cars last year. If they price/market the Estoque correctly, the factory could be back to black muy pronto. No way a 500k Murci will sell enough units to make a difference to the bottom line.

From a product marketing POV a Murci/Estoque double intro, followed by a new G 12 to 18 months later(after 458 buzz dies down) seems to make a lot of sense.

  12. Thanks guys. Rob if you can fit in a G, you should fit in the SLS, had a larger friend in the car today, 6'1" 230 lbs, no problems. Aaron, Im 5'8" barely have to bend over. If you come down this way, leme know, I will take you for a demo ride, I think you will like this car. btw, the fort lauderdale benz store has two white on white cars coming in.

  13. Very cool car! congrats..do you have to close the door from inside or is there a button to close it? seems abit of a stretch to close it..lol

Door is the only manually operated device on the car..... :icon_mrgreen: Actually its simple, just throw your right leg in, grab the inside door handle and close it on the way down. If you forget to do this, then its a stretch.

If it dosent have an adjustable suspension what is the purpose of the AMG button? Does it just choose your favorite auto mode?

Yep, its a shifter pre-select, C is for controlled efficiency, S sport, S+, and Manual. There is also a race start function, which I havent got around to checking out. One of the mags said it was quicker to turn off ESP, brake boost n go.

  14. Question Mr Vroom. The door handles, now I imagine you do not get as much road crap as we do but do the handles get a load of grime on them?

Too early to tell, but they retract as soon as you drive away, so unless my detailer makes one, I don't think it will be an issue.

perfect color combo! im curious to see/hear about the women age range this car attracts. remember the SLR and G debate lol

I have been dating the same girl for over a year, so generally when I drive, I look straight ahead, even at lights, altough with only a 150 miles on the odo a few women have already made a point of rolling down the windows, smiling, thumbs up, etc..... the benz badge kinda works the same way a Rolex does with the ladies, attracts the majority, whereas a really good Patek will go over their heads..... This is what we want no? :icon_mrgreen:

  15. Car has really grown on me. I like the stance. I saw one in person and that changed it for me. I love the color combo. Is that the special silver paint I keep hearing about? I don't think it needs any mods, car is a great car as it sits. You have the G for that stuff. Congrats on the new car sir, i think you have a winner.

Thanks Chris, yep they call it alubeam, its only been used on one other AMG car, I think the CL65 AMG Black.

  16. Honestly this car is growing on me a lot. Its gotta feel nice to pull up and throw the gullwing doors up.... Beautiful car bernard.

Yeah it does, and getting in and out is a lot easier then expected, my gf bumped her head once or twice, but hey wtf! :icon_mrgreen:

Good for you. Car looks great, definitely unique and the doors are trick. Nice shack too. Life is good for you.

Thanks, thats not my shack, I slum it down town, and yes life is good! Actually have to solve a parking issue today.....
