NDTHub Report post Posted November 14, 2009 I've heard it described as the Concorde of the motoring world. Perhaps that is why VW are happy for it to be their loss leader? I don't see it as a tribute to F1 as the Mclaren was. I don't see it, either, as a track day fugitive only casually made road legal. It real world car. As real as a 2million dollar 1000hp car can be. Imho, I think it deserves the accolades. If for no other reason, than to make up for the fact the EB110 didn't receive as much attention as the XJ220. The EB110 was more of a complete package than the XJ220. I think the XJ220 didn't even fulfil it's intended production run, with word of it's heavy understeer handling getting out. jhanso Report post Posted December 11, 2009 It's fantastic to hear about this car. I still don't care for the looks that much, but the car itself is beath taking. what a modern marvel. As others have said Rob, enjoy it in good health. It's great to know at least one of these is being truely appreciated!
BILL_LV Report post Posted December 16, 2009 And what you can say about the brakes Rob? I remember they were described as the best ever made, are they really so brilliant? Especially when hardly used on the track?
R o b Report post Posted December 26, 2009 The brakes are better than anything I've ever experienced, especially with the airbrake kicking in. Compared to the SLR's carbon ceramics, or my LP640's carbon ceramics, this thing takes it to 0 a lot quicker. But I think its the stability of the braking itself that is most impressive. Just let go of the steering wheel on the SLR at 140 and brake, expect to die... with the Veyron, it does it in a straight line and with no loss of control. R o b Report post Posted December 26, 2009 The weakness is that the sheer mass of the car will overheat the brakes after 2-3 laps on a larger track -- so you need cooldown time. It can destroy a track for a lap or two, its just that it can't do it continuously with that amount of power and mass involved without the cooldown laps. Did some beastly driving at 7am on friday morning...
