Any suggestions on other things to do in the area? Last year went to Pagani. Was ok, but its very small and not really a big deal to do again. Ill also go by The Ferrucio Lamborghini Museum again.  Ferrari will probobly do the museum tour again but did that last year.  I havent looked into going to the factory?  Any other places? What about like the main square that I think was dedicated to Ferrucio?

Top Gears' Facebook page recently visited the new Pagani museum which may not have been there last time you were.  Also in the area is the Ducati Museum, assuming you're into bikes, & the Alfa Romeo museum is on the outskirts of Milan; a bitch to get to, but they do have the Carabo & a Tipo 33 Stradale on display amongst mostly race cars.

  2. BOUGHTV THIS CAR IN THE uk IN 1973 FOR $28,000 AT AGE 28. (A LOT OF MONEY AT THE TIME)

My parents bought their second house around that time; it was £14K, to put things in perspective. Mind you, it was a bit "posh" what with it having a glass thing called a "conservatory" out the back.

What became of the GT40, may I ask?

  3. I've been a Top Gear fan since it was resurrected way back when & it morphed into the three amigos. It was a programme we used to look forward to watching; it often had us laughing out loud & it genuinely entertained us. It was licence money well-spent.

Then, only an hour ago, my girlfriend said to me, "Is Top Gear still on?".

We haven't watched it for three weeks.

Completely forgot about it, & I don't miss it either.

So sad that something so good can be so quickly forgotten when it no longer appeals.

TV rots your brain anyhow, so maybe I'm better off now.

At least we still have Dave.

  4. Early days; you can bet the BBC will be scouring the social networking sites for comment & feedback.

It could have been worse. I'm dreading Eddie Jordan's arrival...

  5. Final line up

Cue it will be rubbish, it is finished, I am never going to watch it and all other moans

Bloody Hell; is one of them a girl? Whatever next? A German, (Fawlty)?

Certainly willing to give them the opportunity to make something of this; the Beeb have given us some great products over recent years, (discounting claptrap such as The Voice, or Strictly Cum Dancing). However, if it is shite, then it will be evident within the first four shows or so.

Of course, there will be the inevitable backlash if it becomes a success; we English love to build 'em up & knock 'em down again, but at least it keeps the talent fresh that way.

(A bit worried about the inclusion of Eddie J, tho; he was genuinely cringe-worthy when attempting to appear controversial reporting F1...).

  6. Good luck with whatever you choose; I've had a few Kwackers over the years & they've all been good bikes.

Just bear in mind that having crashed both cars & bikes in 30-odd years of driving/riding, the one that hurts the most is also the most fun; hell of a paradox, assume everyone else on the road will likely do something stupid.

Once the bug bites you, you'll find it hard to get rid of.

  7. I hope they'll consider my ford gt ownership when it comes time for my application to get reviewed.

    Perhaps they'll overlook this thread...

    Hi,

I've just finished reading the thread you provided the link for.

You are probably one of the most professional-sounding, reasonable people I have ever come across on the Internet. The entire story is a real roller-coaster ride, & the fact that you've had problems with other manufacturers, (the previous Lemon Law incidents), also seems to mark you as damn unlucky from time-to-time, yet you bounce back; good for you.

You're also clearly a guy who knows when something isn't right, but are prepared to let others right their wrongs.

I hope your experience with the new GT, (& any vehicle!), is a more favourable one, & that good karma comes your way this time.

    All the best,

    Richard.

P.S. Did the GT ever get fixed to your satisfaction?

P.P.S. Was the Hyundai really that good?

  8. This will be very interesting to to see how it pans out that's for sure...

What do you do if you are TG producer - keep roughly the same format with a completely different cast ?

Or go at it with a completely fresh approach ?

No doubt TG was getting a bit long in the tooth and had been on the decline for a few years IMO but if they mix it up too radically then it's almost certain to fail.

One thing it could be an inspired choice of presenter in Chris Evans. His record speaks for itself and if he can bring his magic to the show there's a good chance that it will succeed.

The only slight doubt in my mind is that CE was at his peak 15 - 20 years ago - and it's not overstating it to say he was a broadcasting genius at that time. Time will tell whether that genius has deserted him or not..

With all the time & money they've invested in TG over the years, the BBC cannot afford to cock this up.

I think we'll see a different format, otherwise the BBC will simply be accused of plugging a couple of celebs into the recently-vacated slots the three amigos resided in. One of the things us Brits hate is the Emperor's New clothes syndrome; don't tell us it's an all-new, all-singing, all dancing show if it's blatantly not.

As for CE's peak, one could say Clarkson's peak was a way back now; I have been catching up on old episodes of TG from maybe ten years ago, (on Dave; another TV network master-stroke), & the dynamic was there between the three of them back then, even early on. Recent episodes looked like they were going through the motions to a degree; a staleness that indicated familiarity, (& we know what that breeds), had started to set in.

Probably another reason why Clarkson turned down being reinstated; it's run it's course, as it is.

Good luck to Chris; I for one will be looking forward to TG when it re-launches.

(OT), as for side-kicks, I nominate Chris Harris & Guy Martin.

  9. Very nice. The blue is ok; it's paying homage to the Miura; but it's definitely the wrong match for the interior or vice versa. Why does the A-pillar and the top have to be in black (and both gloss & matte)? I think matching body colour would be better --- more incognito that it's a roadster which adds the impact/wow-factor when the top is removed. Hopefully, that matching body colour A-pillar & top can be ordered like the Spyder.

    Supposedly starts at 300k Euro.

& tomorrow's Euromillions Jackpot stands at £133M, (off to the shop across the road).

I agree on the body-coloured roof panels &...

I would like one in Aventador J red, please!

    You, sir, have taste.

I was thinking about the loss of structural rigidity resulting from the removal of the original roof.

& then i looked at it again, & thought "fcuk it; roof off, Alpine pass, loud pipes & a bit of Matt Monro, (or Slipknot)...".

Congratulations to all those on the waiting list.

(edit) The clear panels over the engine appear to be different in this shot; I can see two over-laying panels each side of the car's centre-line.

  10. We machine bone replacement parts for a company once in a while. They supply us with the pre-formed part. We just put some threads and details in that I guess can't be duplicated. The material is "printted" from 17-4 PH (super alloy). They say the printed part has the strength of a casting in the same material.

    Do you use a build-up TIG-welding technique?

  11. Initially I was thinking to do an LP570 egear car and TT it, but that will be my 5th Gallardo in almost 4 years. Hard to find something exciting as the TTG, and the G is such an awesome platform to begin with. Low maintenance, awesome with turbos, 570 looks amazing, etc.

The new one's a looker, (ducks).

Wish i had the same problem, (love your TTG, by the way); how about a Murcielago SV? Bad-ass, always will be, & limited run so maybe you wouldn't take such a bit hit when the Gallardo replacement comes out, (assuming it's not an ugly bag of shit).

    If it were me...

    Perfection.

  12. I must like it; I keep going back to look at the pictures. There's a few styling queues from the F1, in particular the side windows, which, unfortunately, (for me), don't look quite right.

I daresy "in the flesh" it's a stunner, (certainly the fax machine looks better in reality), but at the moment it looks like they've tried a little too hard to integrate some F1 DNA into the design. Maybe the design's a bit contrived/cynical?

Does one sit in the middle, I wonder?

Mind you, I prefer it to the Way-Hey-Hey, which is starting to look dated & no-one's bought one yet, (statement may include inaccuracies).

  13. Looks like a great get together... thanks for posting. Happen to have any vin numbers? Wings don't look to be too popular there.

The entire event was excellent; it's held over a weekend, Friday to Sunday. We're definitely going for at least two days next year, as it's impossible to do the whole thing in a day, what with all the racing going on too.

    Sorry, no VINs.

Mr. Metcalfe's car had a wing on it when he got it. I've been dribbling over the Countach since Top Trumps came out in the 70's; back then it was wing all the way. Nowadays, if I were lucky enough to own one, I'd leave it off; I prefer the lines of the car without it.

  14. ...What I don't understand is the UK journos that have knocked the new Range Rover styling but seem to be all over this!?

Emperor's new clothes; British journos falling over each other to be the first to say they like it.

Nasty. Really nasty. & not nasty as in good.

  15. With all the controversy surrounding this film, I simply had to go see it. Frankly, my intention was to try to enjoy it for what it was, rather than get mired down in the Geo-political and social implications of the work.

It is a bit long compared to similar films in the same genre, but I'm generally a fan of such subject matter, and I found a way to multitask, so it was all good.

I thought the production values and editing were decent, though given the length of the piece, I might have considered moving the cameras around between scenes to vary the angles and points of view.

The location scouting was good, as I enjoyed much of the backdrop. Frankly, I was surprised to see such progress in the quality of roads and highways in parts of Mexico. I was further pleased at the extent to which they have seemingly embraced bilingual reciprocity, at least as far as signs go, as I was able to understand them all.

It was casting that truly left me wanting. I got that the director was going for the classic "Buddy Car Flick," but knowing that he left an available, potential best actress contender on the bench, was virtually unforgivable.

Would I consider seeing it again? Perhaps, so long as I could simultaneously cross something else of the to do list.

As for a sequel, if there's one in the works, I hope they ditch the dude in the passenger seat in favor of the more spicy option that we all know the director has under wraps!

I thought it was better then The Dark Knight Rises.
