  1. Yeah, the stig lap thing is actually the worst comparison for car to car. 1/4 mile sure, but circuit is all about the true fast lap.

Yes the standing start thing that stig uses is really just for fun as it includes a drag race to the first corner and as we know some really fast cars are not good at drag races and vice versa, its the same thing for qualifying lap times in racing.

  2. My friend that’s heartbreaking, I am lost for words, if there is anything I can do please let me know. I hope you will get the treatment you need and get better 🙏

Fortis, thanks for the concern, I am anything but broke, (I do drive a lambo and have a nice house in Florida) but am pissed at the situation.

After working hard all my life, employing many people, paying gobs of tax and helping as much as I can I get a disease when I should be relaxing and the present state of the nation is telling me "tough shit pay up some more"

In all honesty the people who may suffer financially will probably be my heirs and that will be many, many years in the future.

I do get good medical attention and although I am light years from joining them I think one of the major causes for bankruptcy in the US are medical bills.

I am just using this thread as a rant against a situation that I have no control over and being English in the US find it hard to fathom the same as you probably do being Australian.

I feel for the people who may be in the same situation as I am but with just enough money to have a reasonable life and are now facing the reality of loosing their retirement funds and possibly house.

Fortis, you always come across as a thoughtful compassionate person and I am sure you do good things in your life.

  3. Wow, that’s a terrible situation and it makes me angry reading things like this, you are a contributing member of society, paid and I am sure still pay your taxes and when in need you are left struggling.

I hope things will get better for you, moving isn’t easy but in your situation if possible I’d strongly consider it. Good luck with your battle !

This is the real scary part.

At the moment the insurance companies are not allowed to discriminate due to pre existing conditions (read cancer) under the Obama era health care rules, this rule is one that the present government is trying to stop. If this is the case I would probably become uninsurable, or have premiums/ deductibles exclusions that in essence make me uninsurable.

I paid my insurance for ever and still do, Over the years I paid for 100's of employees, including their wives and kids insurance, I paid and still do pay pay taxes. If things carry on as they seem I probably will end up fucked or broke or both.

  4. Health insurance is my big concern at the moment.

I sold my business a few years ago and am using cobra (BCBS) from a previous company that I was employed as a consultant by.

My costs are $1300 per month including my wife with a $5k deductible that I always use now as I got cancer just after retiring, each visit also costs me $40, my annual check up for the cancer is around $12k

COBRA is due to run out soon and I am looking at an annual cost (Premium and deductible) of about $30k or more

This is a real kick in the pants as for a few years prior to selling and upon selling I had to pay the extra 3.9% tax that Obama instituted on income to help cover the Obamacare plans for people who need assistance.

Not much I can do about it but move out of the USA, not an option at the moment so its a big pill to swallow.

  5. Knew you were going to say something like that :) Fortis, I don't quite get what you mean. You say you won't save up enough in a lifetime to start an enterprise. I am assuming you mean that metaphorically, that you'll never have "enough" money as you see it to start the enterprise and thus always will want to "save up some more." Like the person always waiting for "the right time" in life to start. If that is what you mean, I understand that, however there is a base minimum one needs to start a business right? I am talking about saving up for the basic essentials to get the plan going.

Wheels, if the idea and business plan are good and you can present both and yourself well, money will be your least problem.

  6. Maybe when it was a penal colony, the Brits thought the local wildlife would eat everyone?

Do you stomp on and shake out your shoes everyday? I mean, I had a recluse in my shoe once, and my foot got all kinds of f'd up. Since moving in the current house with 3x black widwows bites, the scorpions, snakes and tarantulas, it has me shaking out my shoes every morning. I take a shot of shoe deodorizer, take a look for anything moving, then I slip them on. I also do the same for my work gloves in my shed, and i use thick gloves to lift up garbage cans because of the time i barehand squished a potato bug that was hiding there.

Brown recluse spiders are the one thing that really scare me after seeing a person in Atlanta that got bitten on the leg and lost a bunch of her calf muscle.

The other spider that scares me is the one that lurks under the toilet seat, how nasty is that?

  7. Perhaps he’s watched “Reefer Madness” one too many times? :lol2:

All joking aside, the article did say it’s up to the prosecutors to determine pursuing correct? If the DOJ advises them to pursue, but allows them to the extent of their discretion, wouldn’t that be more of a “look were being tough on drugs” without actually having teeth?

I believe he just employed a bunch more prosecutors, one would assume he would employ people who will uphold his decisions and memos?

Although I don't use pot I do think this is a pretty shitty and nasty thing to do, it is another case of crusty old white farts making decisions that the younger generation will have to live with. I also feel the decision was probably mostly about reversing a democrats prior decision.

  8. Resources probably wouldn't be a problem for aliens capable of interstellar travel, however the violence issue could very much be. The thing is that the aliens might well have a variety of different cultures, religions, civilizations, etc...of their own just as we do, and if we come into contact with the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany version of aliens as opposed to the United States or United Kingdom version of aliens, there could be some major problems.

Regarding life, the thing with the Earth is that it is an incredibly unique planet that became very suitable for the supporting of life due to its history. It orbits the proper type of star, in the proper location in the galaxy, at the proper distance. At some point in its past, a Mars-sized planetoid smashed into the early Earth and knocked off the material that likely coalesced into the Moon, while the planet itself was absorbed. As a result, the Earth has an unusually large core for a planet its size, and a HUGE moon, almost to the point of really be a double-planet system. The Moon's effects have played a huge role in the way the Earth is. The Earth also has a magnetic field due to the molten rock inside, which helps to repel radiation from the Sun.

Regarding planetary travel, I do think it is important that we learn to colonize Mars. From there, we could colonize other areas of the Solar System, but such ability will ensure humanity's survival in the event that anything really bad ever happens to Earth (say major asteroid impact). It also will ensure we know how to continue surviving on Earth as well (if we can live on Mars, we could live on Earth). The lower gravity on Mars would be a problem in terms of the issue of muscle and bone deterioration though.

as regards the earth being special, that is why we evolved as we are, maybe others evolved to thrive off of the radiation our magnetic field repels?

Wheels, you are looking at things as they exist today, between the 15 and 18th centuries Britain was one of the European countries intent on over running and enslaving any and all other country's it could. Not sure I would want to be on the receiving end of that.

  9. I had some ancillary items not covered by BCBS in the past. I ended up negotiating with the provider themselves for a substantially reduced rate.

Not nearly as serious as cardiology, but worth my effort.

Kudos to you for being proactive with your health.

I did the same when my insurance refused to pay a bill (my fault as the particular provider was not in network and I did not check as the hospital they work in was in network)

If I remember a 10k bill was reduced to about 6k, I did have to do a bit of finagling but was worth it in the end.

Good luck and as others have said well done on sorting your medical problem.

  10. Been with State Farm 35 years. I've shopped them a few times; no one came close. But then my Son turned 16 and got his driver's license and the party was over. Well that plus I'm up to 9 cars now.

Anyway - if you're over 40 and have a fairly clean record: STATE FARM.

I am over 40 with a clean DL.

Allstate are the best so far, State farm quoted but were 20% higher and GEICO said they could not insure the Murci. I find it strange about GEICO as I have been told they are competitive on someone else's Lambo.

Would you mind giving me an intro to your State Farm broker?

  11. As the title says I am looking for recommendations for Auto insurance in Southern Florida. Delray area.

I am moving my residency from NC to Florida, auto insurance in NC goes through Allstate, I contacted an allstate agent in Florida and got a quote but was wondering who else could give a competitive quote, my property insurance company will not quote on my Lambo.

Looking at insuring Mercedes sl550, Lambo LP640 and Porsche 911.

    Thanks

  12. Coincidently I just got a warning light too on my 2008, but I didn't see any reference on the dash as to which tire like yours did. All are inflated to spec, but for me I was told that if the car sits for a while then the sensors may act up and it may get fixed with a drive & restart.

You only get the message if the tire pressure is low. Also only solid warning light.

Reading the manual it says if you have a TPMS fault the warning light will flash for a minute then go solid, further googling confirmed that this is also the sequence for a bad battery in the sensors.

I drove my car 100 miles on Saturday and the light was still on after each start.

My tires are pretty new so it is a pain in the rear to have to remove the tires, replace the TPMS sensors then remount the tires.

Is the warning light an inspection fail?

  13. Glenn, is this each or a set of 4?

Found a company on line that sells oem for $145 for a set of 4, say they need no programming, just plug and play
