  1. Lamborghinisti,

Very nice and shiny Shamile! I'll be adding a clean down of the engine bay to my car at a later date.

I think Diablos with the engine bay covers stay a bit cleaner in there too, I notice you car doesn't have the throttle covers? Did you remove them or is it something that wasnt on there? I though later cars with the bigger firing order panel had them?

    Hey Sudesh,

My 97.5 VT Roadster never came with them and I've never seen them except on 98+ SV's and 99 Roadsters. I kinda like it without them. Even though all the shielding protects the engine, I think it hides the beauty of all the aluminum castings.

Here's a pix of the engine bay of my 91 Testarossa. I just love that raw hand crafted look.....kinda like the very early Diablos.

Yeah Shamile, it's easy to keep them looking new when you don't have them! LOL. :icon_mrgreen:

Haha....very funny :D Sez....the guy that never drives his Lamborghinis lol. ;) I was referring to all the plastic and rubber in the engine bay. Once you scrub it down with simple green and a tooth brush, it will stay in great shape with the silicone spray.

    Shamile

  2. Lamborghinisti,

I just use simple green on everything in the engine bay to clean it down. I then come back with a can of silicone spray. After the first spray and drive, it will be completely absorbed. Spray a few more times and before long it will build up and STAY shiny.

All the rubber and plastic in my engine bay stay shiny....evern with heavy Florida rain. Remember, I drive my VT Roadster as an absolute daily driver.

Oh, it isn't oily or greasy. You can even come back and wipe down with a micro fiber cloth. The shine is in the plastic.

  3. Lamborghinisti,

    Hey Sudesh,

Sorry for getting back to you so late. I only have a couple of outer shots on the grill. I've since modified the grill openings where the pipe come out.

I'm in the middle of a (4) cycle change on my coolant. I'm doing the final drain and refill this weekend. When I pull the wing and rear cover, I will take some pix of how it's mounted.

Your car should have come with one OEM. The exhaust "halves" mount on the bottom of the rear of the car. The mesh then comes up to enclose the exhaust tips with the "halves" bolting on the mesh. The outer part of the mesh bolts on the frame.

  4. Lamborghinisti,

Oh I wish it was a simple solder joint, and maybe it is, but he replaced the whole thing. He said there are three computers used in MY 97-98. $3K, $5, and $7.5 K. First one he got was the cheaper one, but found I needed the $5K unit, and I guess it threw off the other side which is the CEL side. He said he could install a switch under the dash to turn it on and off, but I'm not crazy about that, even though I know that light is going to drive me crazy.

I am going to open that defective computer up and post pictures when I get it back.

Hope yours doesn't lead to this.

    Hey Reymond,

Your $ 3K computer is the GFA. That's the one I just replaced. The other 2 are the ignition computers.

Jefflambo confirmed where I was going. With the swap of of the phase sensors, I was able to make the other bank drop and create a code. I've ordered a new one and we'll see what happens when I get it. With Jeff's information, I think that's what it is. I think it's coincidental with the car washing. The misfire codes were due to that but the dropped bank just happened to well....happen lol

    Shamile

  5. Lamborghinisti,

I wish I could help, all I can think about is that freakin computer if you haven't found it by now. George got my car running, but it has a perpetual CEL and is not showing a code. I guess it's black tape time.

    Thank Reymond :)

What did George do with the computer to get it working? Was it just a mechanical break...like a solder joint?

If you do tape them up....do pull codes once in awhile to see if everything is running right. Without the codes, I wouldn't have been able to chart a direction on my problem.

  6. Lamborghinisti,

    Hey Jeff,

I would really appreciate your expertise on this

    Hi Shamile

If one of the came sensors is not working it will drop injectors for the bank it is for. You tested the sensors for ohms which is a good start. It is poss that as it gets hot and every thing expands it drops out. I would swap the cam sensors side to side and see if the other bank drops out when it gets hot. If so sounds like a bad cam sensor. You did say that you are getting a code for the cam sensor. Is it a hard code that comes back up right away or comes on when it drops the one bank? If the same bank drops out swap the LIE plugs and test again. If still the same bank drops out might be time to test the wires for the cam sensor to the LIE for the bank that drops out this would be best done hot when the malfunction is acquiring.

It dose not sound like it would be a timing issue as it has not been changes but if you wanted to check it there is a small drill mark in the flywheel at 30 deg. before TDC the cam position arm should line up with the sensor for bank 1. Like I said don't think that is a issue as it should affect both banks the same.

I would start by swapping the cam sensors and get the car hot and see if the other bank drops out if it dose yaaa replace the bad sensor.

If you need a more info give me a call.

    Thanks

    Jeff Wilkinson

    Hey Jeff,

I just came back on line and saw your pmail. This is exactly what I did! I didn't know if the sensor would shut off the fuel injectors but I thought I would give it a try. I pulled the sensors and swapped the plugs and the positions in the housing. I'm not an expert to know if positioning would have any effect.

Well, I pulled it, swapped it over and the drop went to the other side ( 7-12) with the same code.....while the initial dropped bank (1-6) kept running.

Your information confirms where I was going and I want to say thanks for your help.

This was an exchange between jefflambo and I. I just came back in from the garage and wanted to post my findings. I have a bunch of pix but I have to get them off my smartphone and I'll post them up.

    BIG THANKS TO JEFFLAMBO!

  7. Lamborghinisti,

I cleaned out the cam sensor plugs and both were reading the same Ohms. I plugged them back in fired up the engine and all was good.....for awhile.

At least the problem is consistant and repeatable. It fires up warms up to temps then about 10 minutes drops the 1-6 bank with the fuel injectors not working.

I can turn the engine off and back on and the bank is still dropped. Running with the half bank for another 4 minutes or so, the bank come back and the engine runs fine. I ran it for another 10 minutes at all rpm and it didn't drop the bank again.

I still get the P 0341 Cam RPM Sensor ( discontinuous signal ) code.

I'm going to pull the sensors at the engine and check them out....then take the little cover off the box where they go into.

Any advice would sure be appreciated. lol

  8. Lamborghinisti,

I am curious on this one the pain and gain Diablo roadster used in filming Pain and Gain. I always loved the purple on the roadsters. Does anyone know what the story is with this car?

I like the Purple Diablos as well. The purple Roadster look really rough though. No front carpet or floor mat, cracks in the center engine cover and no close up pix of the engine. Oh, sagging on the door leather too.

  9. Lamborghinisti,

Wow with all this talk about appreciation, all I see is falling prices. I don't see any model close to what they were around 2004-06

:iamwithstupid: I cannot believe the asking prices on these cars in my opinion they are low.

Wow...a 98' under a $ 100K. I still say grab one of these cars soon. I don't make any claims to know the Diablo market but things in the upper end of the economy are way up. One phrase I've been telling my customers a lot is ....."well, it isn't 2010 anymore....that's the price now" ...and I'm doing it.

I'm starting the hunt myself for a 3rd car. I'm not ready but starting to look. I've already decided it's going to be another Lamborghini...I'm just not a Ferrari guy. Either a Diablo coupe or Murci coupe. I don't know anything about Murci's and find myself browsing the Murci section reading tech threads lol

  10. Lamborghinisti,

Shamile, you are the Diablo roadster guy and I have read all your posts. You have tons of Maintance info on these cars and I think the Lambo power world appreciates that! The girls are a great bonus also lol

I guess I was being a bit cheeky with my last post lol. Sorry about that, I was at a music festival last night so my post was influenced with alcohol. I have owned a Countach, Jalpa and LM002 so I understand the costs involved with theses cars. I would buy the Evans DR if it wasn't deal pending right now. It is a great car at a competitive price, I'm sure it will need a clutch and if that happens then the snowball effect happens (feed me $$$)

I also believe that older Lambos are on the rise in price but they will not appreciate that fast (in my opinion) and only certain models will be the lusted after ones. Right now is the time for me to make my moves and get the cars I think are best for me and will be collectible in the future!

A lot of people think the Diablo Roadster is not that pretty of a car but I love the open roof driving experience so that car works perfect for me, also I have never owned a Diablo! The 25th Countach is also my favorite type and is the best drivers Countach, I love to drive so that's the model for me!

I have talked lots with Roy over the years and seen him at a few events. Concours in Monterey, the first Lambo Giro, Barrett Jackson and also at his old shop and new shop in Seattle. He has a ton of knowledge on these cars . He deals so much on these cars that he also has a great pulse on the prices. He also sells the most used older Lambos in North America so his inventory is always turning over and he has the best chance of finding a certain car for a buyer. I haven't bought a car from him yet but I'm sure soon enough!

This forum is a huge help in buying, selling and knowledge of these beautiful automobiles and I gotta say thanks to everyone that helps keep the BEST Lamborghini website running!!!

You owned a Countach? Well Rhyno....you have to tell us these things lol :D

Shouldn't your title show owner? You should have at least have your cars in your sig line. We can't tell if you're a newbie or know the ways of the dark side of the force.

Well, since you're looking for a Roadster specifically, any questions you have just post them in this thread and I'll do my best to answer them.

  11. Lamborghinisti,

Shamile, I talked to Evans on the phone and they said they have a pending deal so that car is sold unless the deal is backed out of. I'm not going to rush into a car unless its right for me but thanks for your opinion!

Donzikid, I will pull the trigger when I find the right car for the right deal! Until then you can sit on the side lines and chirp lol. It's my money and I will do what is best for me.

I need to be happy with my purchase and I won't compromise!

Relax Rhyno...don't get your feathers all ruffled. We're experienced Lambo owners here and we're trying to help. Reading between the lines you want a great deal ( don't we all ) but with no potential huge repair bill.

I'm just here to tell you that these are expensive hand built cars and they're expensive to maintain. Given the age, you cannot have complete peace of mind. Just have enough set aside so if something comes up, you won't be caught out.

I mentioned the recession because it was a time of "cash in hand" got great deals because everything was falling off the cliff. Well, that time is gone. We are on a upward trend and you are now going to face the inverse graph of higher prices and lesser level cars.

You should really talk to Roy about the market and current trends. He knows his stuff and I will buy from him sight unseen.

    Shamile

  12. Lamborghinisti,

Roy you are completely right. You did disclose the work it needed before I came down to view it. I was on the fence if I wanted to put in the time and effort to make it exactly what I wanted. It was a great deal but in the end I decided to pass. Still looking for the right cars!

I would just click the buy it now on it and its yours. Seems like your not quite ready to pull the trigger yet.

What exactly are you waiting for? You have passed on two great cars at really good prices from two people I and a lot of others would buy from sight unseen.

You say both cars need work but you felt that $109K was too much? The Diablo was hand built and the last VT Roadster built is now 14 years old...of course it's going to need work. You can buy the most pristine and low mileage Roadster around, it will need parts and service just because of the age of seals and rubber....and it certainly won't be $109K

The recession is over. This recession severely affected the "haves" ....the Lamborghini Ferrari owners. While the general economy is still lagging behind with lower employment numbers, business and profits are way up. My company has been a peak production since last April. If you're going to buy a Roadster, do so soon. All the exotic prices will be going up soon.

    Shamile

  13. Lamborghinisti,

Really hard to tell what is going on, but the fact that it is intermittent, still suggests there is water somewhere. Somewhere there is a contact with an unreliable connection.

    Keep us informed.

    Regards,

    Phil

Phil, do you know what sensor when not receiving a signal would shut off the injectors to the corresponding bank?

    Shamile

  14. Lamborghinisti,

    Hey Raymond,

The fuel filters are brand new installed about a month ago. I was just wondering if there was a specific sensor that without a signal would shut off all injectors on a specific bank.

Haha....I've NEVER had any of these issues until I did a "lazy" wash without completely wiping the car down....just blowing it off.

I was going through your old bank out thread and noticed Jefflambo talked about the cam sensors on the left engine bank. I'll pull the white plugs and clean them out. Perhaps without a signal from each one might shut off the corresponding bank...I donno...just thinking aloud.

I did pull a code stating the cam signal was discontinuous.

    Shamile

  15. Lamborghinisti,

    Thanks Phil.

I pulled the carbon fiber panels off the 1-6 side and pulled all plug boots and electrical contacts and reseated them. I then sprayed the outside with a little silicone spray.

I wiped everything down and started the car. I ran it up to temps for about 15 minutes in the garage. Just before I thought I got it...it dropped the bank again. This time, I noticed the fuel injectors on the 1-6 side weren't clicking. I could feel them with my fingers but to be sure, I put my mechanics stethoscope on them. The 7-12 side were all clicking loudly in my head. All the 1-6 side were not clicking at all.

    I then got the codes...

    P 03131 Lambda sensor locked on weak ( sensor 1 les than 0.4V (1/6)

    P 0341 Cam RPM Sensor ( discontinuous signal )

Then all of a sudden the bank comes back and all fuel injectors are clicking loudly verified with my stethoscope.

Any idea what would make the injectors on the 1/6 side shut off?

Oh....no misfire codes the entire run....bank drop....run test cycle.

    Shamile

  16. Lamborghinisti,

I have the same exact Roadster and same color combination. It's really an amazing car....so exotic!

If it's being sold by Evans, you're already dealing with the east coast guru. If George says it's a good car....it is!

This is where you would send any other Lamborghini that you would be looking at for a PPI anyways.

    Shamile

  17. Lamborghinisti,

Well, I had a not so fun afternoon driving home from work.

    I got codes!

    P 0300 Generic Misfire (from 1st to 3rd strategy)

    P 1301 Generic Misfire (on 1/6 1st strategy)

P 1403 Catalyst Temp Sensor with low signal less than 200 deg C ( cyl 1-6)

It looks like I dropped bank 1-6

OK, I washed the car last night but really didn't have the time to drive it and blew the water off with my blower. This morning , it started fine, ran fine then dropped the 1-6 bank for a few seconds then came back just fine. The car sat at work all day ( no rain ) and going home, it started fine, and then while driving ( up to temps ) it dropped the bank. It came back but a muted or " off pitch" sound but power and revs were up. I stopped at my dad's (dinner nite ) and starting up after to go home everything was just fine....full power and proper pitch.

Obviously we have a problem....but I don't know really where to start. I pulled the codes with my OBD II scanner and deciphered them with the help of lamboweb.com

    Shamile

  18. Lamborghinisti,

Because all the electrical methods don't work, it's probably the electromagnetic pull switch. I would pull the door panel and put a 12v source to the switch directly. This will tell you if it's the switch or the wiring.

I'll bet it's just oxidation on the wire contact blades.

    Shamile

  19. Lamborghinisti,

    I'm sure it's the same as a Diablo battery hold-down clamp....Allen.

It looks like your battery has leaked and caused the corrosion. Mix up some baking soda and water, pour and scrub with a tooth brush. This will remove and neutralize the buildup. Rinse thoroughly with water.

After, spray some PB Blaster on it. Leave overnight and you should be able to easily remove it the next day.

    Shamile

  20. Lamborghinisti,

I really like the new driving lights. It suits the car much better.

You might as well go to the electrical brake light switch set up. You can find all the parts from the 2001 Diablo 6.0 parts sheet.
