  1. Any suggestions?

I like similars to true detective season 1, or breaking bad or Ozark or Quarry.

    Also likes of Entourage.

I don't care for anything about american sportsteams, fantasy like Game of Thrones, SkiFi nor horror.

I too avoid sci-fi and fantasy things. Ozark was good, I like Entourage too, the rest I could not watch. If you like cop drama and don't mind subtitles, Berlin Babylon was good. Try Californication, and Lillyhammer, maybe Sneaky Pete and Patriot on Amazon.

Flint Town is a great show. Remind some a lot of Detroit before it turned a corner. Gritty, raw and pretty crazy at times.

    isn't that a documentary?

  2. Caught a few episodes of Santa Clarita diet with my wife and it's shockingly good. Fair bit of gore and a bizarre premise (suburb mom turns zombie) but it's very well written with lots of solid one liners.
one of our family friends is a writer on that show, i just never got in to it which is hard when you normally like their writing.

I am going to try alias grace starting today

  3. I watched in 2D, I fcuking hate 3D. Anyway, with low expectations coming in, I enjoyed it. There is not much of a plot, I found myself looking for the easter eggs. Joy Division Tee Shirt! The shining sequence was great. It's so dense with easter eggs you will probably have to watch it at home frame by frame to catch them all If you want to waste an evening.

yeah, the famous "wavefrom" from the "unknown pleasures" cover! that and her doc martins with torn tights, bomber jacket, it all fit that time perfectly. i swear i spotted the bauhaus "face" a few times too.

  4. the 80s references are not just blown out of proportion. Our Willy Wonka is a child of the 80s and he's what we today call an "influencer" so people consume his nostalgia as FOMO in the cultural zeitgeist. Kaanye makes crap sneakers, but you buy them. Apple farts in a box, and you'll say it is easier to use than the android fart in a box, but you can't talk facts, just to the popular vote. shit like that

  5. Death of Stalin is a frenetic, clever, little film about the days after he died. It has the feel of a funny play, and moves like the end of "Clue". 9/10 General Zhukov is fcuking great.

Isle of Dogs is another Wes Anderson over-styled quirk-fest. Animation and visuals are great, not enough character development. Likeable, but Fantastic Mr Fox was better plot though that film's animation was more like Robot Chicken. 6/10

  6. So we (IMAX) did our 3d screening tonight. It was not a typical Spielberg movie, it was kind of fun, flooded with nostalgic 80s references in a world or VR and the light parodies of our current over connected culture. The movie is about a quest, Goonies and ET where the adults don't get it.

If you see it, the "Shining" inspired sequence was well done.

Enjoyable, maybe for home viewing where you can freeze frame it and see all the Easter eggs.

If you are in a good theater, when "Blue Monday" starts playing, it sounds great. The rest of the 80s music is well timed and even funny.

It's a movie where the 3D was good, but not gimmicky, so see it in 3D or wait for home theater.

    8/10

  7. Added to my watch list. Yet another heavily modified, unregistered/unregisterable, unsmoggable, Ronin car. Him aside, it is an impressive little car, but you can only wreck so many times before you can't pin it on other people anymore.
