  1. Age alone affects the rubber in tires. Temp, UV and humidity speed the process up a bit.

Old tires might not always blow up, but the rubber properties change, obviously with a reduction of grip, but also a reduction in the amount of warning the driver gets that the tires are near or at the limit. Basically much more prone to instantly losing traction even in perfect conditions, and yeah I've experienced this myself on 6 year old tires. (not on a CGT or Lambo though!)

    Anyway, stay safe people.

  2. IMO the Ford GT was only a success because of how rare the original cars are. The Miura is magnificent, as is the Countach and Diablo but part of what makes Lamborghini special is they always move forward and set trends looking into the future.

  3. i have known lots of "Porn" girls, some are addicted to it-they are into banging on camera and not in it for the $$$. some are all biz and only want the $$$.

Most are somewhere in between those 2 extremes.

Lots of them do "Privates" on the side-nice way of saying being whores.

The question i have always had is why is prostitution illegal? yet, legal if there is a camera in the room? Some guys get $0 for doing a scene. the girls make lots more $$$.

in general america is WAY to uptight about sex. in Munich there is a dildo store at the airport between baggage claim and the taxi que.

Porn is basically illegal here in Aust. but prostitution is legal and quite frankly I find it very hard to trust women for a serious relationship or marriage. I've seen statistics that put women that have been paid for sex at about 10%. Then you have the media making comments like "Escorting is the new waitressing" and "Women do it to get by financially". I've heard stories from friends and even a female uni lecturer all knowing prostitutes who did work while at university or just so they could afford the expensive Sydney lifestyle. A friend of mine knows a woman who is married with kids now, the husband has no idea what she used to do throughout her 20's. A male friend bumped into a female work colleague while she was working at night at an establishment, another story puts a policeman dating an escort and having no idea about it. I've met through friends one escort that I know of, luckily I was told what she did, I'd never have picked it.

At least in America if a prostitute gets caught it get put on record, here is just another skeleton you'll never find out about. I'd rather porn be legal here, not prostitution.

  4. The difficulty retargets to maintain the mining rate, but it's not perfectly accurate. 2140 will still be roughly when it finishes up, regardless of hash.

Bitcoin has been bouncing between roughly 500 and 1000 since late last year, it's climbing since the MtGox event just as it climbed back from every other problem, it's more resilient than the media makes it out to be, good news doesn't get ratings, bad news does.

I don't think Bitcoin is the answer to the worlds problems but it is not going to die as easily as people think.

  5. Paganis are not true exotics because of the use of basically "off the shelf" AMG engines. A proper exotic company makes their own engines in house or at least commisions the manufacture of them exclusively for themsleves IMO.

A while back I tried to add a mod to my ignor list, but it didn't work.

  6. Had a cohiba to celebrate the lambo. LOVED IT.

Had a Don Cirilo tonight. HATED IT. Uneven burn, tasted like crap. How does one VISUALLY identify cigars that may have an uneven burn? Sort of a square shape. I think it was around $8 so I didn't expect crap. The cohiba was $20. I don't want to be one of those "If i toss money at it, it'll be better" types... but was quite disappointed.

Only way I found is to stick to what you trust. To me Cohiba really is a standout and worth the extra $, never had one burn unevenly.

  7. There are definitely skid marks but they are straight skid marks which is why they believe there might be a mechanical failure. The skidmarks don't go back and forth.

Not sure if I understand, do you mean "don't go back and forth" as in not crossed up?

I'm struggling to find any more pics of the skid marks, does anyone know if the 4 color markers represent the 4 wheels?

  8. Nice links there Joe, always an interesting read.

Of course, I'll keep CDs and streaming digital. If I want to listen to a dedicated CD and in the mood for more quality I'll insert the disc. Otherwise for more casual listening, the stream is fine (e.g. Sonos).

As for the whole high resolution thing, here's the dirty secret:

More high end DACs exist for 16 bit redbook PCM (i.e. standard CD) than do the 24/96 PCM (DVD Audio) or DSD (SACD). So, if it comes down to a standard CD with a nice DAC vs. a DVD-A or SACD in a universal/dedicated player, the former will sound better in most cases, even a lot better.

The DVD-A has more potential than SACD from a DAC standpoint because there are some good 24/96 capable DACs I like and you should be able to connect them up and get the best sound from those discs.

Whereas SACD is proprietary to my knowledge at least when it comes to SACD players. There are DSD DACs out there.....my guess is to play DSD files from a hard drive. I can safely say that the high end DSD DAC world is not on the same caliber as PCM.

In any case, the inner collector geek in all of us will want to own these esoteric formats just for the sake of owning them. That explains my crazy desire to own a nice Nakamichi cassette deck eventually even if it gets 1-2 plays a year. :icon_mrgreen:

I just picked up a very cheap universal player to listen for the comparisons using equal hardware, but haven't had the chance to hook it up. The last bit I'll throw out is sometimes the mastering is different on each format, which further confuses things.

The Esoteric DV-50 is one of the nicer universal players out there.

With regards to your question about tube amps up to $2000, I would recommend looking at Synthesis Audio:

    http://synthesis.co.it/products.php

They recently dropped the "Ensemble" which was right around $2000 and very nice (integrated pair of monoblocks). I would look at the link above under "PRIME", and then under integrated amp (Nimis, Seamus, Shine, etc).

It's a very nice start to tubes, and lately they've been adding some very legit higher end stuff too -- the ROMA and ACTION series are really good amps to look at down the road.

A step lower would be to go to Jolida:

    http://www.jolida.com/product

The Jolida 302BRC is what I would recommend if you went this route. Around $900 I believe.

Yes, in the high resolution digital world the implementation of the format usually has more of an affect on sound quality than the format itself.

I'm looking into valve amps more than I ever have in the past, thanks for the recommendations and info Fellippe and VCR. So far it looks like the tubes themselves are very very clean, cleaner than SS and better with high frequencies which is related to better transient response, with distortion components that are "nicer", then the transformer comes along and adds a whole load more distortion, but in a nice way. Also valve amps have a much much lower damping factor compared to SS which may or may not be a bad thing depending on the speaker. I know these are very general statements but if and when I find enough quality info I'll post it up.

Earlier in the thread there was mention that digital is a low resolution ladder compared to analogue formats. I think this video explains the reality of digital audio well:

And this page explains the reality of vinyl:

  9. Getting ready for another home run by Lambo. Mules and rendering looking the tits.

Let's do this deal: i have an empty house (my holiday house, but i never go there), a bit small but just 6 years old with a garage and a (shared) swimming pool... the small piece of earth you see in the middle of the lake is Sirmione...

Here you are the house and the view from "your" future bedroom, where you can live six months a year without any expense... "your" house is the pink one in a group of ten... i want a white car, please... :D

    Now you are in trouble...

    ciao

Careful. Fortis would probably knock everything down and build everything his way with a marble block. :icon_mrgreen:

  10. So I did a bit of digging around yesterday. Some reading for those interested and with some time to burn:

Fellippe are there any budget (up tp 2k) tube amps or pre-amps you would recommend? Big $$$$$'s is out of the question.
