  1. I'm looking into both. For test drives, talk to your dealer about 2 months before. This year I drove the Huracan Spyder, McLaren 570S and i8. I missed driving the NSX because I was heading to the Bentley villa when they called me and I passed on driving the Ferrari California T. Always a fun time, next year they should all have the entry level and some flagship level cars...this year everyone was only doing the entry level supercars (no Aventadors, 488's, or 650's).

For Monetery car week it's going to cost you cash, the only question is how much. I usually do 1-2 days but 1 single day can easily run over $700 - $1200 a person depending on what you want to do. I say research the events and prioritize the ones you want to hit...there's never enough time to fully hit everything. What I suggest with a 2 day trip is Friday do Laguna Seca, The Quail Lodge, and some test drives. Saturday do Pebble Beach and either Exotics on Cannery row or Concorso Italiano. That's also a good day to hop to an auction or two. And you can go back to Laguna Seca for another round of epic historic racing.

That's some great feedback! Greatly appreciated!

  2. If its only you and your wife, ...

It's going to me, wife, and the kiddo ... so trying to figure out how to balance everything.

RM auction is going to have the creme de la creme cars but you have to either register or know someone who has registered as a bidder. But any of the auctions are fun to watch ...

Another great venue is the Historic races at Laguna Seca. You're watching multi million dollar vintage cars race around the track.

Other popular shows are Werks for Porsche, Legends of the Autobahn for BMW's, Exotics on Cannery Row, etc.

I've never been to a car auction, so that would be pretty fun to do that once.

Something we did this year is drive several of new cars, Lambos, McLaren, Ferrari, Rolls. A dealer connection is needed for some but not all.

I'd like to test drive a Huracan if I could get the opportunity ...

Never too early to start planning. I'm already eye-balling possible hotel arrangements.

Are you looking at just hotels? What about airbnb.com options?

Since there are 3 of us bumming around, do I need to show up in the diablo? Can we show up in our Kia rental car, lol :) It seems every show costs $$$$. Not sure if that is to attend without displaying a car or even if you have your car displayed it still costs you $$$.

  3. You could do Monterey a number of different ways....

I usually will drive up in the Italian Stampede which leaves on Thurs. (or Fuel Run which leaves on Wed).

I think Quail is a definite must if you can get tickets....best cars on the course, and best food of any show.

I usually stay at Monterey Plaza Hotel which is right on Cannery Row....this is nice for the Exotics on Cannery row event. Huge rooms with ocean views and in the middle of everything.

My wife recently has been coming with me so you want to take your family to eat in Carmel (every night).

Concorso Italiano was kind of boring last year.

Pebble Beach is nice for first timers.

    That's some great info. Thanks!

Are the auctions good to attend to see unique cars?

  4. I'm planning to be at Monterey Car Week 2017 with the 6.0 and trying to plan things now. Looking at airbnb.com, it's showing that there already isn't much available to rent for next year ...

How close to Monterey does one need to stay? Is it worth staying close to the action?

My interest is doing a few cruises (maybe Italian Stampede) and some get togethers. I'm not really interested in doing Concours and stuff. There's some events listed https://whatsupmonterey.com/events/monterey-car-week but would probably want to also do a few other non-car things with the family.

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

  5. Sorry if you assumed something...it has always been clear what this car is, as with the Verde Ithica 6.0 Diablo I also had re-sprayed from Silver into the OEM PPG Verde Ithica...and it is well know asw well and is described as a ONE of ONE in its configuration as well. It was never hidden either as to what it was and what it became. It is owned by a board member here who is very happy with it.

I agree with Roy. He has said 1 of 1 in the world which it is. I personally would not ding a car if it was resprayed to a different color. ASSUMING and in most cases it's a big ASSUMPTION if the car was properly sprayed with OEM PPG color and complete job as in windshield, glass, every gasket removed etc Also as long as the respray is not being done to cover up an accident. The 6.0 that Roy was talking about is 1 of 2 6.0s that are Verde Ithaca and I have the other one. I can tell you even the dealership could not tell that it was a resprayed. If it has been done right shouldn't hurt but something like that will cost $25k plus.

I own the other 6.0 that Roy had re-sprayed in VI. I love the car and will likely keep it a long time :icon_mrgreen:

  6. Now that Michelin has discontinued 335 section tires in 18" sizes, is there an alternative to PZero Rosso/PZero Corsa for matching tires? The PZero matching sizes are 245/35R18 and 335/30R18.

Toyo R888 in 335 section that would work for the rears but the closest front size is 255/35R18 which would add 1/4 inch in ride height to the front and 3/4 inch in section width. Has anyone tried these tires on a Diablo? Any issues with rubbing?

What model diablo do you have? If you don't run tires of the right size you risk damaging the drivetrain/transmission. I only run the PZeros on the 6.0.

  7. Or make Roy an offer he can't refuse. There are 3 manual SV's in the states from last I read.

I am pretty sure from reading other threads that none of the three will ever sell for any amount of money. I think Roy was offered a mil for his SV and refused, but don't recall if that is true. Roy has made it clear he will not sell any of his personal cars ... only when he meets up with Ferruccio and the kids sell the cars will anyone have a chance to buy.

If I had the means to park an SV next to the 6.0, it would be getting a swap as we speak.

  8. I just doubled the agreed value on the SV and increased the Roadster by 50%, no hassle with Haggerty, one phone call to my agent. Very little increase in premium, but I'm probably paying to much to begin with. But like I said , hassle free.

And Mark the kids moved back to OKC, so I won't be in ABQ nearly as much, how are you guys doing? Kev

Haggerty quoted me at $13k/year for insurance for just the 6.0! It was 4 times less with TDC.

Things are well here in ABQ! Just don't get to do many car events these days :-(

  9. It might be worth calling a few places like Underground Racing, Dallas Performance, Driven Exotics, etc to get some pricing. If it really is sub $30k to do a swap, then that would be nice! I am guessing the difference in price between egear and manual LP640 is greater than $50k ...

  10. Correct, TDC will accept my letters for value setting on any Lamborghini. Would be glad to help any members out.

Update... Big thanks to Roy. He had me talk to Amy at TDC Risk Management about increasing the value. She said she knows Roy and trust his values. For now the underwriter has approved increasing the value to at least $250K. I had to send them a High Supplemental Form answering a few questions. They are looking at increasing more but she said it may take about 6 months for the values to catch up as more cars sell. My insurance is due again in June so we will see then also.

I recently switched to Barrett Jackson Insurance Co, TDC Risk Management (American Modern) to insure the 6.0. Underwriting didn't accept my value for what I thought was fair based on my attempt at a market analysis. Roy helped me out big time getting the 6.0 insured for the right value :icon_thumleft:
