  1. Lamborghini Aventador SVJ review: 760bhp prototype tested

    Full article: https://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/aventad...011/first-drive

This review kind of deflated my excitement for the SVJ, same complaints about the gearbox and unfortunately I know exactly what the reviewer is talking about, it seems that the car is a more refined wilder looking SV, would the performance differences be noticeable other than at stratospheric speeds? That’s left to be seen.

Either way I’ve learned to take reviews with a huge grain of salt so I will withhold final judgment until I test drive one myself until then I will just be cautiously optimistic.

  2. I don't know about you, but if everything around me is on fire.

The LAST thing I am going to do is record it on my i-phone. :eusa_wall:

That’s exactly what I was thinking and also to be honest I’d be saving my own ass before I’d go back into an inferno to save the cat, as cruel as it might sound, cat 🐈 you are on your own!

  3. I hope you are right man. Cause I will be one to cancel.

I hope I am wrong but you might be safe to cancel now, I was told they will be running the way of the Performante, as many as they can pump in one year but since they can’t make them as fast they are thinking they will be as limited as the SV, who knows at this stage, I think even Lamborghini hasn’t decided. I mentioned this in my earlier comments, those who want very low SVJ numbers should pray for no record.

As for you being able to get it for $200k less, how is the SV market over there? Have they dropped that much yet? That might be a good indication but I bet the SVJ will hold a bit stronger being the last NA V12 the Roadster even stronger, the other downside is that if and when you will find something $200k cheaper it might not be your desired bespoke combo and the last downside YOLO, if you have the money to burn who really cares, buying it is a dumb financial decision to begin with, you getting few hundred k off would hardly make it any smarter :icon_mrgreen:

  4. The SVJ might not be number limited according to this article...

Unfortunately exactly in line with the feedback I got, we get the record we’ll make as many as we can sell, we don’t we will limit it, I hope that’s not correct because limiting the numbers would make this car extremely special, last of the NA V12 and a record holder.

I don’t collect so I don’t care but I can see how those who want to collect them would be quite pissed if that were to happen.

  5. They have to be sporty, no? :lol2:

The GTs IMO have to be aggressive but elegant at the same time, more comfortable than sporty, imagine taking your girl out to a beautiful dinner, all dressed up elegantly, would you like to get there in a straight pipped Aventador to make her ears bleed or a nice rumbling comfortable GT?

That’s the reason why I am missing the point of sporty/aggressive front engined exotic sports cars.

As for design it comes down to the “language” you like, if you like the origami Lamborghini puts out they could draw a bicycle and you’d be attracted to it, if you like the round curvy organic shapes Ferrari designs you’d be attracted to that no matter what, personally I am not attracted to long nose bulbous shape cars, they look awkwardly out of proportions for me, the 812 type cars is the least of my favorite car designs, mostly because the design is too conflicted, they are trying to make a sensuous shape aggressive so you think it’s a sports car more than a GT and that’s where the design fails for me because they are using two conflicting languages, kind of like designing a child friendly minimalist house interior, you can do it but you’d definitely alienate fans of the individual design languages.

That’s where Aston nails it, in particular with the new Superleggera, that car is stunning because it has just a touch of aggression on otherwise a very sensuous/curvy body design, unfortunately for me the interior lacks, I don’t like Aston interiors, Bentley on the other hand KILLS the interiors and so you can almost forgive them for the almost uninspired exterior design, what I’d like to see is the new Bently GT interior in the new Aston Superleggera.

Because I see the GT as more of a utilitarian car I could accept the ugly shape if I could fit my entire family in it and that’s the reason why I really like the 4 seater Ferrari Lusso, unfortunately it’s only 4 seater and they lose half their value before the ink drys on the contract so you’d be much better off with an Aston/Bently/Benz

My favorite Ferrari design at the moment is the Portofino, I’ve spent a lot of time looking at that car and the design is beautiful mostly because they aren’t trying to make it aggressive.

Anyway back to proper hairy chested bad ass sports cars the SVJ, the king of the green hell :icon_super:

  6. My best guess is that after Ferrari had a nice run with the 288, F40, and F50 the thought was that the mid engined supercar flagship would be limited edition only.

Build a front engined V12 like tradition (all Italian V12s prior to the Miura), as it makes more money for the company.

I think the logic is that if they built a mid engined V12 Aventador competitor, it would leave less room for the hypercar and be less profitable than a GT.

BTW, while I prefer the mid engine V12 concept over front engine, do realize that the front engine GT market is a real and needed market, and if Ferrari abandoned it they would be ceding it completely to Aston Martin, Bentley, etc.

On the flip side to this argument -- can/will Lamborghini build a proper 2 seat front engine V12 GT that will be competitive (i.e. sell)?

Can they make a better looking car than an 812 or DBS?

Making a better looking car than a 812? I could do that and I can’t draw to save my life :icon_mrgreen:

The Bentleys and Astons are proper GT, the front engined Ferraris are somewhat of a in between.

  7. The camouflaged Aventador SVJ with official Lamborghini driver Marco Mapelli at the helm, took on the lap-time test at the 20.6 km track. The challenge was managed by Lamborghini’s Research and Development team, with extensive tire support from Pirelli technicians and driver. Fitted with cameras inside and out and full telemetry, under the formal scrutiny of Remak personnel who managed time and GPS certification using VBOX-Racelogic instrumentation, the lap attempt of the Aventador SVJ was performed during an exclusive session on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

For the benefit of the army of time wasting YouTube commenters out there.

  8. Fortis, I agree with your analysis. Some like me value the track prowess of cars because I track all my sports cars to varying degrees! Here is a video someone posted of me tracking my 50th Anniversary Roadster!

Closest mid-engined series production competition Ferrari had was the 512BB to Compete with the Countach.

That sound is intoxicating!! Looks like you are having a blast, I wish I had a race track like that near where I live.

On a separate note, I am dying to see the SVJ without the camo wrap!

  9. Amazing accomplishment Lamborghini!

As far as the Trinity, the 918 was out of juice three quarters of the way through one lap at the ring. You can watch it happen on the official video that was released by looking at the charge gauge. On top of that they weren't on the most aggressive setting to make the charge last. To attempt a record time in the 918 on tracks like Laguna Seca that are shorter they had to run a hot lap that would completely drain the batteries, then two "regen" laps coasting around until they were fully charged to try another hot lap.

The 918 is a phenomenal car I’d love to own one.

  10. Not many really care about hot laps unless you are 14 and you like to talk rubbish on YouTube comments section.

They sell with and without records and IMO they do because the Aventador fills a gap with no direct competitor in it’s price bracket, mid engine V12 spaceship looking piece of carbon, you want anything close to that combo you will have to pay at least twice as much and unless you bought a lot of rubbish in order to be anointed you will not be getting one so there is no use even talking about it.

This record helps the Aventador series go out with the Big Bang it deserves and that’s what makes me most excited about it, I’d would buy one with or without the record.

I am very surprised Ferrari did not build a direct Aventador competitor, they have a great V12 but they chose to shoehorn it into a clown shoe looking body and they mount it at the front, not interested, missed opportunity IMO because Ferrari would kill it with a mid engine V12 direct Aventador competitor.

I guess, why would they care? They have so many fanatic followers that they probably make more from selling merchandise than cars. Having said that I’d love to see the NA V12 from Ferrari mid mounted in a body which looks close to the Aventador, that would be a Ferrari I’d be interested in.

This is like your favorite team winning the final, just because I can go and buy the same soccer boots and run around in them that doesn’t make me as good as the pros.

It feels very sweet because the underdog got few wins under its belt :icon_thumleft:

  11. Interesting... :eusa_think:

I can see it being totally feasible. Remember, the McLaren F1 did 241 mph with 618 hp and only 479 ft/lbs torque...The original LP700 can do 230+ (confirmed to me by 2 separate race drivers at Lamborghini, one dealer contact and one factory contact) and with the S having more power, revised driving dynamics and aero, I could see it getting to 240. I tracked S and the car got to 160 mph without breaking a sweat, unlike other car's I've driven that start to lose their balls around 150. The Aventador S has 730 hp and 510 ft/lb torque, so while it has more weight, it has 100 hp more, 40 more torque, and 25 years of driving dynamics.

    And it's single clutch! :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen:

The weakest link, if it was DCT it would’ve been faster, also perhaps it would spend more time in my garage than dealer’s workshop 😉

  12. Well done to my favorite car maker :eusa_dance:

All done with no turbos, no hybrid electric assists, just pure V12 glory.

God DAMN that’s blistering, the other thing I want to point out is how stable is at those crazy speeds, same deal like the Performante, the GT2RS driver on the other hand looked sucidal behind the wheel, that’s what’s incredible about the Performante, it’s so easy and reassuring to drive fast, the SVJ looks the same, I can’t wait to get my dirty paws on that beast !

  13. Cry me a river, the Lambo guy most likely paid his ticket (still hate when people park in handicapped spots you just don’t do that the fine should be much higher than that but wait then the poor people would feel hard done by) the lady did not and missed court dates etc. whom in this situation thought was above the law and was proven otherwise?

The stupidity of the average person unfortunately does not surprise me any more, this shouldn’t be a newsworthy article, it’s done in spite in order to further propagate the stereotype, such BS.

  14. Spoiler and shark fin are forged composite from what I know. You can also see it in that dashboard photo of the SVJ.

I am pretty sure the dashboard of the SV without infotainment had forged carbon, it makes sense that the wing is forged, Lamborghini said they can only achieve the complex shape required for ALA using forged, it sucks because weave looks a lot better.
