I havent seen one done with a 924 but I have seen many 944's with this conversion. Suspension, Brakes, wheels are a must. Prepare to spend atleast 10k and thats doing it yourself. Many people have also used cheaper v8's from trucks, and I think some big v6's. Its not cheap though. 944 turbo is the best chassis for this.

check out the forums at rennlist, there are many topics in the 944 setion about this and they have links to v8 powered porsche forums.

EDIT:

Here is a note from renegade hybrids which specialises in v8 porsches:

NOTE: For all the 924 owners (excluding '87-'88 924S) looking to do a conversion, I'm sorry to say, we discontinued our 924 kits years ago. We found that the 924 platform could not properly support the cumbersome "U" shaped motor mount that is required. If this was not enough, to safely complete the conversion, you would need to change, the brakes, the torque tube, transaxle, "CV" axles, and the whole clutch pedal assembly, which adds greatly to the difficulty of the kit. If you attempted to retain the 924 drive train, not only was it too weak for even a mild V-6, the gear ratios were also completely wrong. Finally, with countless free 924's popping up all over, the $8000 cost (plus your motor) to do the conversion correctly seems far and way too expensive.

The 350 is heavier and will change the weight distribution of the car so if you are all about the handling of the 924, the bigger engine drops (Even the LS1 drop) changes it.

The reason the 944 turbo motor is a popular swap is because the car will keep that great distribution and there's always room for more power minus the weight.

Well i need help. Will it b cheaper to just buy a 944? or just fit its engine into my 924?

Lambopower is probably not the best place to obtain the answers to your questions. To learn everything about the 924/944/951 and possible motor swaps, join: forums.rennlist.com (click on watercooled + turbo links). Every question you have has already been answered.

for starters...

1. Don't use the 924 chassis for a motor swap.

2. A 944/951 is a much better platform. LS1 engines are being placed into them.

3. Price wise... your looking at a minimum of 10k-15k for an engine swap if you DIY.

4. A lot of great 944 turbos on the market right now at amazing prices.

I'll disagree with chapman on not using a 924 for a swap, they're a great platform for a swap, and a great sleeper... but you will entirely change the weight distribution and handling of the car in the process....

Check out 924board.org they actually have an entire subforum /dedicated/ to motor swaps that have all been done, proven and fitted to the 924. You'll find all the questions you seek to this particular question there ;)

Depending on your goals, it's easier to get a 944 with a 944 motor in it... but if you like the 924 that depends on what you are willing to do. Many of the torque tubes from certain 944 years and differentials and rear ends are swappable to the 924, however, it takes money, work, patience and a BFH (big fcuking hammer) to do it.

  • 1 month later...

Sell your 924 and buy a 944. I worked for Renegade Hybrids for 3 years and designed a wicked LS1 swap into a 944, check it out at Renegade Hybrids

I hate to say it but I wouldn't swap anything into a 924, it's just not able to handle any kind of engine swap without becoming unsafe.
