BABVT Report post Posted September 10, 2012 Hi My 94VT has started taking along time to get to the idle of 1200 rpm. It idles at 2000rpm for twenty minutes and sometimes longer before it starts to drop. It drops to 1600rpm and then takes approximately 10 minutes to get to 1200rpm. It has only started doing this in the last 3 weeks. The temperature is fine while it is idling (90 degrees Celsius) so it isn't over heating. The car drives perfectly and no lights/error codes appear. Oil level is fine and coolant is fine. Any help would be appreciated. 13MM Report post Posted September 11, 2012 There are 2 hoses that are attached to your air cleaner boxes. These are attached to a valve on your valve covers. Then a hose to your intake manifold. The 2 valves are what control cold start idle. These might be sticking or getting poor voltage. May be as easy as cleaning the connectors. The valves are simple valves that close as an element warms. The exhaust o2 sensors can also cause idle problems.
IlToro Report post Posted September 11, 2012 Pretty sure those two things would throw a CEL.
BABVT Report post Posted September 11, 2012 Thanks for the help. Definitely not throwing a Cel. Have cleaned the two valves you are speaking about. Have not started the car since cleaning them so I will try today.
whiteout Report post Posted September 12, 2012 Clean your throttle bodies with throttle body cleaner. Check your spark plugs. Check for any vacuum leaks. Nick
