    But apparently the V12 is to be dropped from the Aventador replacement as they just can’t get it light enough. 
    Same person said the order came from Lamborghini head office and the factory is not at all happy about it and the workers went on strike for several days over it.  Pretty specific stuff if it’s bull. 
     

     

    Today, I spoke to the Lamborghini Americas CEO, Alessandro Farmeschi at the  Lamborghini Winter Academia ice driving experience in Aspen, CO.  He confirmed with certainty that the Aventador replacement will be a naturally aspirated V12 hybrid. So it will indeed be a V12!  Rejoice!

    You have better information than me. I am going by the interview and “assumed” that the confirmation of the DCT meant a new CF tub as I had heard repeatedly from my dealer that the current Aventador tub cannot take a DCT.

    Thanks J.  All hints suggest that the new flagship with still be based on the AV’s chassis and engine block with modifications to integrate DCT & hybrid tech.  It would be more like the move from the Diablo to the Murcielago rather than the jump from the Murcielago to the Aventador where everything is brand new.  Again, Lambo would not have the funds for that and no way would VAG authorize that kind of funding.

    So it is possible to integrate a DCT into the Aventador chassis and CF tub?

    In regards to the replacement, is there a possibility Lamborghini comes out with a refresh Aventador sort of like the 458>488 instead of a full replacement?

    I thought we learned from an interview of Maurizio Reggiani posted here a while back that the Aventador replacement is a ground up new design? Which means new CF tub, a DCT transmission, V12 and with pure electric range which means LiFe batteries and not just super capacitor hybrid system.

    918 had hybrid assisting it out of the corners, that's why it did so well on all the tracks in general. It was and will always be a hyper car costing a lot more than an SVJ, also being a much faster car in a straight than anything from the higher end supercar segment today. (at least until supercars start to go hybrid as well.)

    I had also heard from multiple track drivers of the 918 as well as other Hybrid hypercars that a fast single lap is possible on long tracks (like the Ring) but repeated laps invariably got slower due to power depletion in the battery and the inability to have a fully charged battery at all times. This will make non-hybrids have an advantage in lap times in a sustained 30 min lap session. The 918 did poorly at COTA where I track my cars.  The Performante did a 2.18 on Trofeo R tires in the hands of an experienced driver (not me) at COTA.  No 918 came close to that laptime at COTA.  

    To be honest, neither the 918 nor SVJ are ideal track cars as they are too heavy. So laptimes are not the primary purpose most customers buy these cars. A fast single laptime is largely for bragging rights.

    And if you think the SVJ did the Ring lap time due to its "lightweight" and ALA aerodynamics, then you certainly don't have any track experience under your belt.  The SVJ did that lap time with the third generation TROFEO R tires, not Corsa.  Forget about the Trofeo R (which was tire used for the record lap), what's even funnier is that Lamborghini doesn't even equip the SVJ here in the US with Corsa tires.  It comes with the standard PZeros :aiwebs_005:

    We recently took a bunch of cars to Big Willow and my friend's SVJ in Corsa spec tires (he had to buy the set because Lamborghini refused to put on Corsa tires from the factory for the US) lapped the track 3s slower than his own 991.2 GT2RS (he brought his SVJ, GT2RS and P1).   

    P.S. Motor Trend weighed the SVJ when it lapped Big Willow.  In the Motor Trend test, they used the Corsa tires for the SVJ, which lapped the track SLOWER than the GT2RS of 1:21.08.  SVJ lapped the track in 1:24.92.  They also corner balanced the car and weighed the car at, wait for it, 3902lbs!!!  So much for Lamborghini's claim of 3500lbs :eusa_naughty:

    Unotaz - do you know if the Pirelli Trofeo R tires you can buy in the US from TireRack for both the SVJ and the SV now are in fact the third gen Trofeo Rs that were used in the record Ring lap for the SVJ?

    Same source said likely 2021 reveal as a 2022 model and it will have a naturally aspirated V12 with hybrid powertrain and a dual clutch transmission.  Total expected HP is around 1080 HP!  The design was finalized sometime ago and it has undergone most of its testing.  We will have to wait and see, I suppose...

    Absolutely not trying to be argumentative but a factory person told me (assured me) that Aventador replacement will have a dual clutch transmission...

    But that means a single clutch transmission for another generation.  That is highly unlikely, don't you think?

I wonder how rear visibility will fair?  That being said I think Lambo is making a huge mistake going hybrid.  The cars will take on a massive depreciation hit after warranty runs out.  Look at the costs involved with cars like the P1 and 918.  No one in their right mind is going to want to spend that kind of cash on a car that will more than likely border on a production run of 20,000 cars. 

    It is not a choice.  No manufacturer can meet Euro emission regs without going hybrid or full electric in time.

At the end of June, I was told by someone from the factory that the Aventador replacement is pretty much ready and further along than the SF90.  In this conversation the car was a V12 hybrid with approximately 1080 HP (100 hp or so more than the SF90 Stradale).  Separately and earlier I had heard the VAG/Porsche management did not want a V12 in the Aventador replacement and was unhappy that development was too far along to change now!  

    If the Aventador replacement does not have a V12, I believe, it is the kiss of death for the desirability of that car!
