  1. Interesting video here:

Adidas will come off as unrecognizable to many....

It's nice to hear all of these in their native tongue, but there's a fine line with pronouncing a foreign word right, and demanding the accent be there as well (esp. in the context of two different languages). It's bordering on pretentious and weird (esp. overdone), and hope this guy gets that on some level. :icon_mrgreen:

  2. Why they didn't build this one is beyond me. If you wanted to take it to Mercedes, this was it.

    That's the thing.

I'm not sure Cadillac or Lincoln can take it to Mercedes, even if they built a carbon copy of the next edition of the S class before MB did.

Somewhere in the late '70s thru '80s Mercedes took the luxury car mantle from Cadillac and it's never been the same for the American luxury car market. Only because the SUV-as-a-cool-ride was really popularized in America did the Escalade/Navigator do really well. America can make cool SUVs it seems but not sedans.

Americans are so status conscious with their brands that some things are just impossible, IMO.

The best Audi sedan built this millenium is probably the VW Phaeton, and it's no mystery why it flopped.

Lexus/Infiniti/Acura were all invented for the US market place.

I'd love to see a great Caddy concept become real, but GM is still probably not strong enough to give a high end car away.

  3. There was talk of making corvette a ‘brand’ and having sub models of which this would be one of them.

At this point, might as well be a brand.

When was the last time anyone actually called it a Chevy?

And I'm not sure there ever was a bowtie on one either.

If they do go this route, they can't have any cheap stuff. If they must have a cheaper car than their current baseline car, then put it on the Chevrolet brand.

  4. I don’t think it’s going to be named a Corvette. We still have too many stereotypical “I don’t drive a Japanese because they bombed Pearl Harbor”-Chevy’s are THE American car”-“I don’t want no rear engine European type shit” types.

    Unfortunately you're probably right.

The tradition of the POS, like the 911, is one that requires the engine in the standard place. The mid engine car will have to be an additional offering, it cannot replace the front engine car.

What I'd love to see with the mid engined car is a GM interpretation on the chassis and handling dynamics. They've done a great job with front engine platforms, let's see what they can do with a more favorable engine location. The ZR1 isn't offering significant more real world performance over the Plastic mess-06 mostly because of the front engine platform.

This car should offer a traditional manual and a DCT, no torque converter automatic (save that for the front engine car).

A hopped up 7.0 liter LS7 would be amazing as a base engine, with the ZR1 as an option. I don't think a DOHC motor with a flat plane crank would be necessary or even ideal for the ethos of this car. Lingenfelter offers a somewhat conservative tuning package of 630 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque for an LS7 donor, so I imagine GM can do about the same. The ZR1 engine will be necessary because as you know the car industry has become a d*** measuring contest lately, even though I bet the naturally aspirated motor would be a better choice for driving on winding roads/tracks.

  5. :iamwithstupid: I think the SV is overall the best looking car they've made. The SVJ is just badass...it's not pretty but but damn from these renders it looks badass. I can't wait to see it in the flesh.

    :iamwithstupid:

i'm not a big fan of those mustaches...most of the aftermarket bodykits have them too, and they ruin the original design IMO.

Yeah, for now it appears that way.........for now.... :icon_mrgreen:

    Let’s talk in few weeks...

No doubt! I know you'll have some ammo by then... :lol2:

    I fully agree.

Seems like “excessive detailing” is the styling trend of late and that even and especially applies to the current Japanese cars. Just look at the Civic, Corolla, Camry, RAV4 etc.: what’s with all the side slits, creases, folds etc...? Not sure I am buying the trendy “Gundam” look...

Anyway, if the SV-J needs those added aero ports for its ALA to function property resulting with the added performance, so be it. Otherwise, as it currently suggests, this sure isn’t the best looking model out of the Aventador series.

Your last part is gold - if these additional aero ports are needed for ALA, so be it. Agree!

BTW, styling discussion is just that, discussion. Nobody bought an Enzo for the outright styling......a total spaceship versus their regular cars, at least this one is relatable.

Just think of the SVJ as a street legal SV race car and all is good. :icon_pidu:

This is flashback to when they showed the SV and half the board INCLUDING myself lost their shit that it wasnt good looking lol. I really remember back and tell myself was i blind? 6 months later it was the most beautiful Aventador yet. I aint making that mistake again :)

I'm a slow adopter to styling, so I'm guilty as charged. I didn't like the LP560 when it dropped and now can't see how I didn't immediately prefer it over the original G.

Aventador I think I was lukewarm to, and now I also prefer it over a Murcielago styling wise (base to base, SV to SV, etc).

6 months from now I might call the SVJ the greatest looking car that's ever been. :lol2:

All I am hearing is people:

1 Trying to talk themselves out of wanting one

2 Cant get one right now so more of the above...

    3 Being negative just cause

All of these people will change their position when it is released. :eusa_dance:

Don't think anyone is being negative.

Initial consensus is a better car driving wise at maybe the expense of some style, which overall makes it a better car to most.

I bet many think the SVJ/SV styling difference is smaller than the SV(J) to S. The base/S really feels like a totally different car than the SV(J).

I remember back when people were disappointed that the Murcielago and Gallardo special editions were just paint jobs and now that the Aventador special edition is a record setting track animal it still doesn't seem to be enough ...

If VCR is right then I think nobody will care.

If the SVJ could have been achieved with an SV body, people might be disappointed.

  6. I'm not sure I love the SVJ looks that much more than a plain SV (especially front 3/4), because it's bordering on being too busy; the SV added plenty of violence over a regular Aventador (S), not sure it needs so much more. Of course will have to re-evaluate in 3 years...

But that side profile is fantastic and the performance gains are significant so overall a win. :icon_thumleft: :icon_pidu:

  7. nice video: i like Davide's work

i met him in person few times and he is super passionate about 80's and 90s cars

p.s. the white countach and yellow diablo in the video are mine

    Good stuff Emilio! :icon_super:

Davide also did a series of interviews with Paolo Stanzani (who died meanwhile). He talks a lot about Ferruccio, you guys are going to love those.

    Those were very good interviews.

    RIP Stanzani

  8. Six things you need to know: Lamborghini Aventador SVJ:

It's the end of the road for the naked V12

    Weight will be the issue

That 'J' has been used sparingly throughout Lambo history

The name comes via the FIA's rulebook

Lambo has not forgotten its roots

The Nordschleife was a key development target

    Source: Topgear.com

    - Sad end of the road for the NA V12.

    - Don't think the weight is that significant -- were the LaF, P1, 918 considered heavy?

    - Great story on the Jota genesis.

    - I saw Mapelli's racing resume. He has the goods to get the RWD record if the company allows it.

  9. While that is true, an F50 being worth $3 million does nothing for Ferrari, because thats an after the fact price. The F50 was made in small numbers because they never planned to build it....

The F50s were all leased to the owners for 2-3 years before they were allowed to own them, to combat the speculators who made a killing on the F40.

The 288 production was increased slightly as was the F40. F50 was right on the mark, I don't recall them making over the original projection.

  10. What a fantastic day for us Lamborghini lovers around the world!! The end of an era (raw V12, no hybrid assist) and it goes out with the ultimate BANG.

Marco Mapelli = BALLS OF fcuking STEEL again. That is a BIG car to be throwing around like that. Jeeze!

Great company. Fantastic car. I am like a proud parent today!

    This is very exciting!

They've been combating the "only looks good but is heavy and not a hardcore drivers car" stereotype pretty violently the last few years.

Car is an absolute monster in every way, what a lap!!

It might not even need RWD for the full violence

  11. Making a better looking car than a 812? I could do that and I can’t draw to save my life :icon_mrgreen:

The Bentleys and Astons are proper GT, the front engined Ferraris are somewhat of a in between.

They have to be sporty, no? :lol2:

Gotta agree with you here. The 812 just doesn't look individual enough. almost looks like a viper. I liked the F12 much better.....

And the F12 sucked when it was the current car, I'm sure. :icon_mrgreen:

The irony is that if Lamborghini attempted a front engined V12 GT, they probably couldn't make it as nice as anything Ferrari made (and "probably" is being rather generous here).
