  1. Nice!  Riding with a pro is a real eye-opener isn't it?  Watching him pass everyone reminds me of when I was at VIR a few years ago with one of my GTR's, and got Leh Keen to drive it a few laps.  A little later a guy I know fairly well (who tracks a modded ZR-1 and is much faster than I am, as he has 100x more track experience) came up to me in the pits and said, "What did you have in your coffee this morning?  I thought you were going to run over me before you went by!"  I wanted to smile and just say my driving had improved a lot lately, but I fessed up.  :P

If you watch the interview with the State's representative, your blood will boil.

"At the end of the day, somebody is going to jail"

No regard for human life. Your tax system allowed for a loophole, and savvy individuals exploited it. Close the loophole and solve your problem.

Not a loophole, but the appearance of exploiting a loophole.  Forming a MT LLC that does nothing but hold title to the vehicle (doesn't generate revenue to be able to pay for a vehicle or do any business at all) to avoid paying sales tax has never been "legal" in most (if any) states.  The states just haven't devoted the resources to do anything about it, for the most part.  It's more like ordering things off the internet from out of state businesses that don't collect sales tax.  You can call it a loophole, but as a technical matter the buyer still owes the sales tax; the seller just isn't legally obligated to collect it and remit it to the state, and the states haven't devoted a lot of resources to the issue.

Has anyone performed any preventive measures to deal with potential fire hazard of the Lamborghini Gallardo?

My 2005 Gallardo suffered from a faulty fuel pump this summer which squirted gasoline whenever the engine is running. My mechanic replaced the right fuel pump and car is driving fine without any gasoline smell inside the cabin.

There has been several incidences of Audi R8 and Lamborghini Gallardo catching on fire in recent years. Is there anything we can do to prevent these burning accidents other than waiting for things to break?

Is the BHP Power Steering Line Upgrade worth the hassle?

There was a factory recall on the power steering line on the earlier G's to prevent this, so I'd investigate whether your car has had it performed or not, and if not, whether the factory will still cover it.

  4. "Stories" like this is what ruins the facts. Cold weather is a lot better for batteries than hot weather. You lose a small insignificant amount of energy in cold weather (1-2%), but the batteries lasts a lot longer.

I have zero personal experience with EV's beyond having driven a couple of Model S's that belonged to friends, but this is wildly inconsistent with everything I have ever read in the automotive press. To use just one example, the latest Car & Driver states in responding to a subscriber letter that their real world testing of EV's has shown a range difference between cold and warm weather of "greater than 25%." Now maybe there is a distinction between range and "energy" here (although not one that could account for that much difference), but I think what owners care about is range. If an EV's range is 250 miles in warm weather but only 185-190 in cold weather that is a big deal IMO. Also, my friends with the model S's like them, but they will gladly admit that there is a significant difference in range in cold v. warm weather, and that their real world range (not driving aggressively but not driving like a granny either) is a good 10-15% below Tesla's "rated" range, even in warm weather when brand new.

  5. There is no way you own a Ugr car and legitimately are asking about wet traction or longer life??

I will give you credit for joining this forum long ago but this is a silly question. Ask Ugr. No one here will have any good feedback to give you that you don’t know already know. If you use another tire besides the 2 you mentioned, you will most likely be living dangerously. Please be safe, don’t drive in the rain fast, like go slow and leave traction control on.

:iamwithstupid: Just stick with the Toyos. I'm actually running Trofeo R's right now, but that's because there is no Toyo for the front that works with the H's 20" setup. And while I like the Trofeos so far, they would offer no improvement in wet traction or longer life IMO.

  6. I am personal friends with Todd, the owner. I actually became friends with him after making several deals. As stated before, he doesn’t give his inventory away. He tries to get top dollar. So negotiation can be difficult. That doesn’t make him a bad guy, it makes him a smart business person. But I’ve never seen a bad deal. He always stands behind his product and the cars are thoroughly inspected. I’ve recommended him to several friends and do not make recommendations unless I believe the seller is honest and has integrity. Todd has both of those.

+1. Not the place to shop if you want the lowest price, but you can be confident that their cars are in great shape, have been thoroughly checked out, and have no hidden stories. Which is why they price them toward the top of the market.

  7. Overheating wouldn't affect a quarter mile run (unless they had done several in a row), and I don't think there have been any reports of overheating issues with the ZR-1 thus far anyway. They were probably determined not to go through that debacle again. Would love to see a ZR-1 v. GT2RS roll on to see if the difference is really that pronounced.

  8. 140 MPH would be awesome, but that's probably "corrected", surprised we haven't seen any real world numbers yet on the GT2RS...

I wondered about that, and think you're probably right, but that means the 131 for the ZR-1 was corrected also, and 9 mph seems like a huge difference. You think the Porsche is underrated or the Chevy is overrated (or some of both)?

  9. 720S Should really be called 800S

Yeah, and apparently the new GT2RS is almost as underrated as the McLaren. Was just reading the comparo of the GT2RS v. the ZR-1 in C&D, and the GT2RS trapped 140 in the quarter, compared to the ZR-1's 131. Yet the ZR-1 supposedly has more power (and a lot more torque), and is only 250-300 pounds heavier.

  10. I think it's almost impossible to get ergonomics wrong in a car. I'd be very curious to know where people think the McLarens fall behind in ergonomics.

You must be one of the few people who think I-drive and its various spawn are just peachy. Personally, I think burying things you use constantly (changing frequencies or channels on the radio, HVAC settings, etc.) in a series of menus and submenus you control with a wheel (as opposed to having a dedicated button) for the sake of a "cleaner" interior appearance is a horrible trade.

  11. Aren't you Spooky ? It doesn't sound like you are car parazzi , i am making a general statement . I can't go anywhere without being followed, harassed, having my pictures posted on the internet, being asked dumbass questions , etc .The car parazzi have become so annoying i can't give anyone the time of the day anymore , and that is shame for car lovers as i don't get any joy acting standoffish but enough is enough . I couldn't care less if anyone wants to take a picture of any of my cars when they are parked but unfortunately, you got attitude from the valet because of idiot car parazzis ruining it for everyone else.

+1. Went for a drive on Saturday, and a friend called me yesterday and told me there was a picture of me putting gas in the car on a local car enthusiast FB page. I don't have a FB account, but I found the page, and aside from the creepiness of being photographed without knowing it, it was interesting to see the comments by random strangers about how I must be a "look at me" kind of person, etc. I really don't get the mentality of these people who apparently go through life like a hired gun from the old west, only instead of drawing a gun, they're always itching to draw their phone and take pictures of whatever they see, and then run and post them online. I will say most people are respectful when I'm around the car, and will ask if they can take a photo, etc., but as you said there is a minority that do stupid things (like box you in and drive along side taking photos/video on the highway for miles) that ruin the experience.

  12. Just based on how the door handles are positioned and latch, I have to believe that it is still requires you to pull out and then up, not the single plane path you get from a factory setup.

+1. I think a guy who was involved with the install posted elsewhere that the door opens out to the first stop before going up. I doubt it's possible to get that single plane path with any aftermarket kit because the sheet metal just wasn't designed for it.
