    RIP Taylor Sims

Lot of familiar names on there, including a major contribution from UR. RIP.
  2. Love the car, and the color. Welcome.
  3. That's a badass render but I'd be shocked if it looked that good. I do think it will look a good bit better than the C7 though.
  4. No doubt the Z06 and higher end variants will be that much and more (they are now), but if that's the price for the least expensive version, they will have reduced their universe of potential buyers by about 80% and it would dramatically impact their sales. No way they could sell anywhere near the numbers they usually churn out (30-40k units a year) at $100k+. I guess the upside would be you wouldn't have to worry about seeing them on every corner like the previous cars. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out.
  5. No more auto-correct to POS? It's a Lambopower milestone! Very interested to see the new car, and I hope they don't take it solely upmarket. A V8 ME great handling vette that still starts in the $70k range would be very interesting.
  6. Congrats. Hoping to get one in the next 30 days on a Liberty Leonidas upper I've had sitting at a local shop for quite a while. That this process even exists is absurd, but oh well.
  7. Are you looking at the 1/4 mile trap on the 1/2 mile timeslip? Toward the end of the vid there is a 1/4 mile run on a dragstrip showing 141.
  8. Reminds me of a Tom Wolfe quote: Fascism is always descending on the United States yet lands only in Europe.

    GT-R50

I actually thought the updates in '17 were good improvements, but that looks like a giant catfish to me.
  10. Not just Chavez but probably most of his family. His 30 something year old favorite daughter was reportedly the wealthiest person in Venezuela after his death (~$4 billion IIRC). Amazes me how some people claim we need socialism because of income inequality, but income inequality in places with the most socialism is a million times worse than what exists under capitalism. Then when you point out all the historical examples of what has occurred under socialist regimes (including mass murder), they say "Oh but that wasn't really socialism" or "that wasn't true socialism." So I gather socialism works great on paper, but is an abject disaster in real life.
  11. More like so covered up they can't surface for air would be my guess.
  12. They are monsters. My wife drives a C63S and it's a beast even untuned, assuming you can get the tires to hook up. I wish it were AWD sometimes. Thanks for the feedback on the rebuilding issue.
  13. One thing I've always been curious about is whether an independent shop like yours could repair/rebuild a catastrophic engine failure on an AMG for a lot less than having a dealer replace it (with either a new or remanufactured engine). Have you done that before?
  14. $10k is far from a worst case scenario repair on a CL65, or really almost all AMG's from the last 10-15 years. Non-engine or a minor engine issue, probably so. But if the engine has a major problem, no. I know of 3 cars offhand just from being around my local MBZ dealership that wound up parked and essentially abandoned down there because it didn't make economic sense to fix them. The last one was an ML63 in very nice condition, but the engine failed (may have been one of the cars with the head bolt issues), and even a remanufactured one was going to be $23k installed. A new engine was $35k installed. But the vehicle was only worth low 30's at the time, so the owner didn't know what to do with it. These cars offer great value used because the depreciation is brutal, but if one breaks, the repair costs are equally brutal (as you note about the CL).
  15. Yeah that gauge cluster is gone as well. I assume they replaced it with virtual gauges in the new touch screen, but not sure.
  16. Excellent. I would think most people will go with black but who knows.
  17. Agree on this. I'm kind of up in the air and reserving judgment about a lot of the styling changes, but if that lower part of the rear is painted it's hideous.
  18. Nice! Riding with a pro is a real eye-opener isn't it? Watching him pass everyone reminds me of when I was at VIR a few years ago with one of my GTR's, and got Leh Keen to drive it a few laps. A little later a guy I know fairly well (who tracks a modded ZR-1 and is much faster than I am, as he has 100x more track experience) came up to me in the pits and said, "What did you have in your coffee this morning? I thought you were going to run over me before you went by!" I wanted to smile and just say my driving had improved a lot lately, but I fessed up.
  19. Same here. The new software seems much better overall, but the "every post looks like a quote" thing is really annoying. Perhaps there is a way to fix that.
  20. Not a loophole, but the appearance of exploiting a loophole. Forming a MT LLC that does nothing but hold title to the vehicle (doesn't generate revenue to be able to pay for a vehicle or do any business at all) to avoid paying sales tax has never been "legal" in most (if any) states. The states just haven't devoted the resources to do anything about it, for the most part. It's more like ordering things off the internet from out of state businesses that don't collect sales tax. You can call it a loophole, but as a technical matter the buyer still owes the sales tax; the seller just isn't legally obligated to collect it and remit it to the state, and the states haven't devoted a lot of resources to the issue.
  21. There was a factory recall on the power steering line on the earlier G's to prevent this, so I'd investigate whether your car has had it performed or not, and if not, whether the factory will still cover it.
  22. I have zero personal experience with EV's beyond having driven a couple of Model S's that belonged to friends, but this is wildly inconsistent with everything I have ever read in the automotive press. To use just one example, the latest Car & Driver states in responding to a subscriber letter that their real world testing of EV's has shown a range difference between cold and warm weather of "greater than 25%." Now maybe there is a distinction between range and "energy" here (although not one that could account for that much difference), but I think what owners care about is range. If an EV's range is 250 miles in warm weather but only 185-190 in cold weather that is a big deal IMO. Also, my friends with the model S's like them, but they will gladly admit that there is a significant difference in range in cold v. warm weather, and that their real world range (not driving aggressively but not driving like a granny either) is a good 10-15% below Tesla's "rated" range, even in warm weather when brand new.
  23. Huracan spacers Very well made and hard to beat at ~$325 with the 5% discount and free shipping.
