  1. Sharp!! How's maintenance? Gas mpg? :)

Maintenance so far hasn't been an issue. No problems, but I will do a regular service soon.

As for gas, it's laughable. A full tank gets me to 220 miles on street driving. Doesn't bother me all that much to be honest.

  2. Had a little time today, and with some seat time in the Ghost, I figure to throw up an updated post.

In a strange way it's turning out to be the one car I want to grab the keys to when I go out. Maybe it's the age, but the comfortable ride and smooth power of the thing just makes driving through day to day traffic relaxing. You really do feel isolated in there from the outside world. And that's a nice place to be heading home after work.

Whilst the other cars are still great, the two door sports cars just make me want to drive fast. Something about them just pushes me to drive like a bat out of hell. Sort of an always on edge feel once I get in them.

In any case, the Rolls is so far living up to my expectations. And though it's older and not as technologically advanced as say the current and newly refreshed S-Class, you find yourself not caring so much. I have Bluetooth for phone and music. I'm good.

Some updates of course. New 22" wheels. Car will get lowered soon, as well, some Voresteiner parts will get installed.

  3. I find it all so fascinating that a lot of us share the same outlook on life.

Kids will always come first before cars. I'll hang on to mine as long as I can but they will take a back seat to the kids each and every time. And if you ever find yourself wanting to drive the cars over spending the time with kids, consider yourself a POS.

But on that front, I too will get a small window to either drive the cars to work or take them out for a spin if the wife takes the kids to activities where usually the moms get together. So the opportunities will arise every now and again. But man...does it feel like a chore sometimes!

  4. Allan,

Seems like you just finally completed the remodel of your current CA home and you're already planning on leaving CA? Not that I blame you, having been a resident of CA for 30+ years I'm tired of the BS one has to put up with the state (from people, to politics, etc.).

Are you planning on keeping your CA home or getting rid of it.

The model home in the pics look nice. But how is the build quality?

  5. Congrats!

Thank you. One day I'll have to look into a CGT too! Congrats on your pick up as well.

Looks very elegant, I know it's a big car but does it feel big when you drive it?

Congrats and enjoy it in the best of health.

Thanks Fortis. It does feel a little bigger than the S Class in dimension but in a majestic way, not like a Cadillac Escalade that's just taking up space (not sure this explaination makes sense). But overall it's not cumbersome.

Thanks for the writeup! At some point I would like to try a ghost or a phantom coupe.

You can't go wrong. And doesn't hurt to try to see if it works for you.

  6. Congrats! Looked at their site and thought that m8ght be the one. You'll have to post a review once you get more seat time.

So I've put limited miles on the car. Probably 40ish to date. But here's what I can tell you. We have a current MB S550 so that'll be the basis of my comparison. In terms of technology, the S Class hands down wins. It's newer in everyway. And it's hard not to be impressed with the design and functions either. Materials are nice and laid out well. The drive of the Benz is also smooth and quick. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. MB knocked it out of the park as far as I'm concerned.

But when it comes down to it, the Ghost just elevates the experience a bit further. When you're in the presence of the Ghost it just draws...sorry....demands your attention. We had it parked next to the S Class and the Benz gets ignored. Perhaps that comes with not seeing the Ghost everyday (S Class a dime a dozen here), or knowing that the brand Rolls Royce is a step above. On the inside the Ghost exhibits a classier interior. The S Class is certainly more modern in comparison. But the same functions are there: seat warmer/cooler, navi, A/C, etc. However you can't deny that the Ghost just feels more special. I think Jeremy Clarkson called that special something that a car has, "magic" or "fizz", or something of that nature. I'm sure someone can correct me here.

As far as the drive is concerned, the Ghost does feel heavier. It's not a car you take quick corners in obviously and I knew that going in. Have plenty of other cars for that. But it is a nice smooth cruiser. It's comfy when you go down any road. And as I came to learn on the fwy, when you put your foot down, a smooth delivery of torque does sneak up on you and you'll realize you're at a much faster pace than you imagined.

Car will get a little make over. Tint, full clear bra, 22" wheels, lowering module.

  7. Reached out twice today via email. No response. If they can't be bothered to reply to a customer with interest in one of their inventories, I can't imagine what the communication would be like when actually buying the car.

    Will pass and look elsewhere.

  8. They are 5 mins from my house. They seem ok - i did pop in. Everything there seems to be on consignment. Happy to take a look at a car for you if need be.

Appreciate the feedback. I haven't reach out to them yet, but am interested in one of the cars they have.

I'll reach out first and see how it goes and go from there.

    Thanks!

  9. I have the provolence warranty on my ghost, 2 years, bought at 4K a year from Ogara coach. Just brought the car in for some misc small stuff, and they are covering everything no questions asked with a loaner. The rolls Royce warranty is amazing, but 2 years is plenty imo, it's a basic 7 series In a lavish form

Which is why I would only want the factory extended warranty. But the way they do it if you wanted another extension once the current term expires is inefficient. Especially as it results in you paying sales tax each time. I take it you're getting rid of it once warranty expires?

  10. I was looking at a Ghost as well. The problem I came across is more to do with warranty. The factory extended warranty (called Provenance) can only be had if you purchase a car from an authorized dealership. But what's troubling with this is that the term is 2 years and at the end of the 2 years, if you want an additional factory extended warranty, you literally have to sell the car back to the dealer. They then do their process and sell it back to you with the extended warranty. This sounds like a really inefficient and complicated matter, not to mention expensive, as each time you buy and sell the car back (in CA) you pay sales tax.

I don't understand why RR can't just let you bring a car in to get certified and purchase a warranty from there on. I've heard they are working on this process, but no definitive answer as of yet.

In the meantime, I've turned my attention towards S63 or S600 Maybach. Not sure I care to own a RR Ghost w/o warranty. And a lot of the 3rd party warranties available for the Ghost seem to be questionable.

  11. Only thing about the Scud that is super fast is the F1 - that's all I was referencing. IMO it's the best transmission ever made and the only other car that shares the same F1 is the 599 GTO.

Added the full Capristo system 40 -50 hp bump runs even with a 458.

    Let's see the Scud.

    Here's a thread one mine.

    http://www.lambopower.com/forum/index.php?...&hl=Easy888

I've since added the Capristo headers and S-Line exhaust system. Never raced a 458 but I'd doubt at this point in my life that I care about what's faster. If it's a fun car to drive then that does it for me.

  12. Scud owner here. While I wouldn't say it's super fast by today's standards, I wouldn't call it slow either. But more importantly it's the experience of the drive that makes it unique. Many reiterate the same sentiment so we can't all be wrong. But it also doesn't hurt that the prices are going up either.

  13. I'll chime in a little.

I don't DD my GT3, but could very easily do so. The car is so flexible in that you can drive it like a standard 991 or you can set it into a mode that allows it to be the fantastic experience that everyone says it is.

My commute is roughly 10 miles each way, and as short as it is with all the traffic that I have to deal with, the GT3 still shines. It's hard to put everything into words, but I'll put it this way:

During service I was given a loaner 991 Carrera for the day (PDK car). And at the end of that stint, I couldn't wait to get back into the GT3. I think you need to test drive the GT3 to understand why any other 991 lineup just won't measure up. Everything from the way the car handles, to the comfort, the fast shifts, the 9000RPM redline, it's on a different level.

The only thing you lose by choosing the GT3 would be the two rear seats and an open top (if you we're considering a targa or cab in the first place).

I would also bet that the GT3 would be the one car you will look forward to driving, as opposed to looking at it as just another car.
