  3. _______________________ SUPER TROFEO TRIPLE FOR PETRI CORSE Media information: 16 May 2009 Italian race team Petri Corse secured three victories at the inaugural race weekend of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series at Adria International Raceway, Italy, on 16 May 2009. Fifteen Super Trofeo race cars took to the track to contest in the world’s fastest one-make series. Qualifying Friday’s 30-minute qualifying session saw Fabio Babini and Claudio Rossetto secure pole position for the first race of the season with a fastest lap of 1:16.621. Alongside them on the front row of the grid was Bonaldi Racing’s Gianluigi Piccioli and Davide Amaduzzi, having qualified with a time of 1:16.768. Lamborghini München Team Holzer completed the top three with drivers Uwe Alzen and Achim Winter, who set a fastest lap of 1:17.075 in the closing minutes of the session. Round One Team Automobili Lamborghini’s Giorgio Sanna passed Babini and Rossetto’s car for the lead on the second lap, creating a gap from the pursuing drivers. Albert von Thurn und Taxis of Lamborghini Racing Eastern Europe had a strong start to move him up to third from 12th on the grid. After the driver change, Babini passed von Thurn und Taxis’ team-mate Jarek Janiš for second place before closing the gap between himself and leader Sanna. On the penultimate lap, Sanna fell back to fourth place. Babini passed Sanna for the win, Lamborghini Racing Eastern Europe’s Erik Janiš and Michael Scheublein claimed second place, with Jerek Janiš and von Thurn und Taxis completing the top three. Round Two Having won the first race, Babini started from pole for Round Two, creating a good lead in the first stint and allowing his team-mate Rossetto to focus on consistency and maintain their position in the second half of the race. Autovitesse’s Alexander Frei and Jonathan Cochet claimed second place, having started seventh, whilst Peter Kox and team-mate Marc A. Hayek finished third. Round Three Babini and Rossetto completed their weekend with a third victory, despite several lead changes during the course of the 35-minute race. A late safety car period, deployed for Lechner Racing’s spinning Maximillian Werndel, brought together the field, allowing Babini to climb from third place to the lead. Erik Janiš and Michael Schaublein crossed the finish line in second place, with von Thurn und Taxis and Jerek Janiš completing the top three. “It has been a really fantastic weekend for us,” said Babini. “We have a great set-up and the car is very quick. The safety car restart in Round Three was very exciting; any of the top four drivers could have won. I know the track well, so I had an advantage at the start of the day, but all the other drivers have got faster very quickly, so it was a very exciting weekend!” Team-mate Claudio Rossetto said, “This is my first race for a few years, so am very pleased with the result. The team did a fantastic job to put us in such a good position throughout the weekend.” The next Super Trofeo race weekend takes place at Norisring, Germany, on 26-28 June 2009, supporting Europe’s most popular touring car series, DTM. It has been a fantastic day for the team and for Lamborghini.” Team-mate Claudio Rossette said: “It’s my first time back in a race car for three years, so it was a great opportunity to get back onto the track. 9. http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/238871/ Lamborghini has shelved plans to produce the dramatic Estoque four-door supercar that was unveiled at last autumn’s Paris motor show. Maurizio Reggiani, the firm’s head of research and development, said the Estoque has been put on ice for the time being. "The timing and market conditions are just not right for an additional model line," he explained. The Estoque was a four-door, four-seat concept with a front/mid-engined layout and permanent four-wheel drive. Lamborghini had only committed limited feasibility funding to the Estoque project. This means the car's development was at an early enough stage for the firm to halt the project without a severe financial penalty. The move is the first concrete evidence of Lamborghini's serious rethink of its future strategy. At Paris Lamborghini said the Estoque could be powered by a V10, a turbocharged V8, a hybrid V8 or even a high-performance diesel engine. However, company sources say the Italian car maker's back-to-basics strategy will make dramatic weight saving a priority for future models, as well as possibly dropping turbocharging plans in favour of high-revving normally aspirated powerplants. Reggiani is resisting pressure from a number of areas to introduce a DSG double-clutch transmission and says manual ’boxes could also be dropped. He argues that Lambo's current e-gear transmission (which is a conventional six-speed manual gearbox with an electro-mechanical shift mechanism) offers "the best combination of weight saving and mechanical interaction". Reggiani regards the typical DSG transmission as "too smooth" and lacking in the "sense of occasion and drama" that a Lamborghini owner wants. However, he says the next iteration of e-gear will be "really surprising". In the short term, though, sources indicate that there will be a Superleggera version of the Gallardo LP560-4. 12. January 13th, 2009, 6:00 am · 4 Comments · posted by John Gittelsohn Lamborghini Orange County, formerly the world’s largest dealer of the Italian luxury vehicles that sell from upwards of $200,000 apiece, closed in November without explanation. Now court documents indicate what happened. The owners of Lamborghini Orange County in Santa Ana committed “outright theft” of approximately $12 million by selling its fleet of exotic sports cars at deep discounts and failing to pay their creditor, according to a lawsuit filed by Volkswagen Credit Inc. in Orange County Superior Court. The lawsuit says the owners of the Orange County dealership and its affiliate in Calabasas unloaded 54 cars in eight days – accounting for 8 percent of all the Lamborghinis sold in the United States during all of 2008. The lawsuit says VW Credit, which covered the cost of Lamborghini O.C.’s cars in advance of sale, doesn’t know where the proceeds went. But it didn’t get the money. The owners of the dealerships named in the suit are Vik Keuylian and his sisters Asdghig, Nora and Sossi Keuylian. Their attorney, Jeffrey Gubernick, declined to comment on the allegations, because the case is still under litigation. Gubernick has filed a motion to strike VW Credit’s demand for punitive damages, but still not responded to the general allegations in the lawsuit. A hearing is scheduled for Jan. 22. The Keuylians attracted a celebrity list of customers, including NBA stars Kobe Bryant and Dennis Rodman. They staged fundraisers hosted by Elton John and Sharon Stone to support research to fight AIDS. VW Credit provided financing for Lamborghini Orange County and its sister dealer in Calabasas to finance the cars. Volkswagen owns Lamborghini. In a separate suit filed in Orange County Superior Court, East-West Bank is suing the Keuylians and Lamborghini Orange County for defaulting on a $3 million loan, for which they failed make payments in November and December. Another lawsuit filed in Las Vegas seeks $340,000 from Vik Keuylian for failing to pay him for a 2008 Lamborghini Murcielago formerly owned by Stephen Cloobeck, owner of Diamond Resorts. “They took the car but never gave me the check,” Cloobeck said. _______________________ http://ocbiz.freedomblogging.com/2009/01/1...ion-theft/8100/
