  1. We recomend the replacement of the release bearing when we replace a clutch. You do need to bleed the system when doing this. You are correct – without the LARA you cannot reset the system, and you cannot set up the PIS. We have had gallardos come in with failing release bearings that people had previously replaced clutches and not replaced the bearing. george evans, Evans Automotive
  2. Back on topic. Yes inependent's can do e-gear clutch replacement if they have a LARA computer. You do need the LARA to setup and bleed clutch on the e-gear. We do have a factory purchased LARA with all current updates/supscription/portal access. There are only a few independents that have a Lara and there is only a very few like us that have current access to the factory portal for Lara updates and service information. The Lara has to be updated often to operate properly or it is limited to what it can do. At this time, I am not aware of any other independent shops in Ohio, other then us, that have a Lara with Lamborghini portal access. george evans, Evans Automotive
  3. Well, for the same reason that you would lie, to get car owners to bring cars to you. pretty sad dave........george
  4. I do not know of any work that any shops or old Lamborghini Ohio has had to "fix our work". Actually we are the ones that are fixing things that other local shops could not fix...... george evans
  5. Wow, I did not believe this was posted by Dave until I read it myself. Just for the record, we have never ever cut any frame for any reason to any car, much less a Lamborghini. We would never cut a frame, as it would comprimise the structrual integrity of the frame itself. Even if it was rewelded, it could still be a problem unless it was restressd before welding so you would have the proper load on the frame at that point. We have repaired 1 diablo frame that had been cut by another shop to replace a clutch and had been improperly repaired by that same shop. (With a little bit of searching, it is easy to find out who actually was doing the frame cutting) We did this without the engine in the car and the car setup properly on a rack so not to have any load in the area. you also have to take into consideration the natural shrinkage that will occur during welding. I do not know of anyone that has cut a frame on a murci to speed up clutch replacement, but I am not even sure that it would make the job quicker as the murci structure and drive train is different from the diablo. I am honestly not sure why Dave would lie about something like this. This is clearly libel. Sad that he would stoop this low. I invite Dave to post the pictures and paperwork that documents his statements. I will deal with Dave myself on this issue. Attached is a couple of pics of us pulling a engine for clutch replacement on a murci. At this momant, we currently have 32 lamborghinis here in various stages for repair and 16 of them are here for restorations. Restoration cars we are currently working on are: 400gt, Islero, islero S, 3 miura's, 2 Jalpa's, Jarama, espada, 4 countachs, LM002, and a diablo. If anyone has any questions, they can contact me personally. Evans Automotive, since 1976, 614-471-7535 George Evans
  6. Yes, Charlie Volpe was a great guy, he was a great customer over the years and a very dear friend. His wife Janie is also a great person, they would both come to the italian gathering charity show we put on every year and help us run the event. Our prayers are with him and all his friends and family. I am sure he is in a much better place now. george evans and company
  7. We have seen a similar problem twice this year. seemed to be a temp/rmp/load related problem that was intermitant. Did not happen when the car was cold. After extensive diagnostic, sensor checks, power and ground checks, we swaped ecu's. Problem did change sides. We replaced the bad ecu, problem solved. george
  8. quote name='Lambo4ever' date='Jul 12 2007, 10:29 PM' post='322317'] I love these trucks!!!!!!!!!! Lot of people disagree but I say they are the best lookin than any hummer. Yes, i felt the same way about the LM, i always thought it was a neat machine. I found a 1 owner early LM in silver with the downdraft carb engine. Low milage, runs good, definatly drops jaws. I have been having a lot of fun with it. The downdraft engine is a bit finiky but the xtra horsepower is worth it. Now if i can find a 50 caliber machine gun to mount in the rear, i would be all set ....george
  9. Well Michael, I think you are side stepping the issue which is that you bashed the car and posted false information on 3 different forums to discourage intrest in the car. Surley there is enough expertise on this forum to give you advice on what to do. This kind of crap has to stop. Would i have sold it last year for a better price if you had not bashed it? Probably so. Now you accuse andrew of staging this thread? Andrew saw the car and looked it over last time he was at my shop. I would think he is better able to comment on it then you. Yes the car had a low tire and a dead battery when i got it out of storage, This does not make the car considerably less valuable. I answered this thread so the truth would come out and to let people know what you did for your own possible gain. Get over it and move on. PS: jalpas do not eat wheel bearings when when they are not driven much, especially if they are feed regularly........george
  10. Michael, you are correct, i should have spoken up sooner. 400+ posts on this board does not give you the right to evaluate a car sight unseen without a ppi. I did not refuse a ppi, contact Jack at NJB if you do not remember the facts. You did NOT look at the car nor follow thru on the ppi. Why would you state that the car needed 1600.00 in wheel bearings from sitting? Why would you state that the car needed new tires due to the date code on the tires? What was the date code on the tires anyway? There is only 1 reason that i know of to post false information about a car for sale, on 3 different forums . Facts said, you have done me, my jalpa and lambopower an injustice. george
  11. Rich, i assumed that your post was based on Michaels info, that is why i stated the truth. as said before, you might want to call jack at NJB as we had made arrangments for him to do a ppi on the jalpa. The big problem was that Michael did not think the car was worth what i was asking for it so he publicly bashed the car on 3 forums without even looking at it. i have hagerty insurance on my cars, includeing the F40. Just fyi, Jack at NJB picked up the white 328 that is now on ebay from my shop on wednesday and did a ppi for a potential buyer in florida. george
  12. Rich, Doing a ppi was never a problem, i assume that you are getting your information from Micheal, you might want to give jack at NJB a call to confirm this as Jack called me to set up the ppi but micheal never folowed thru. When micheal started bashing the car and said that we should be aware that we were hideing something, and that it probably needed tires + wheel bearings + and other work even though he never looked at the car, i decieded to just list it on ebay. i told michael never mind as i did not want to deal with him any more. Right away michael stared bashing me and the car on 3 different forums. We knew that micheal did this to lower interest in the car so it would not do well on ebay. hmmmm maybe that would be a good way to get a good deal on a car if nobody bid on it. anyway, i did not need to sell the car so i just put it back in storage. george
  13. I have been watching the threads posted by thecarreaper regarding my business, Evans Automotive, and would like to offer a little more information on the situation: First off, I am not bothered by the few negative reply posts, this is to be expected as a lot of the “facts” that were presented were merely variations of the truth, or simply not true at all. The emails that Michael posted were edited versions that left out important parts. Here are the facts regarding the whole scenario, though: --Evans Automotive is NOT a Lamborghini dealer. (Michael refuses to believe this) --Evans Automotive is a full service repair shop and a restoration facility and has been in business for 30+ years. --We do occasionally offer a few cars for sale, usually on consignment. --The Jalpa in question is one of my personal cars – NOT property of Evans Automotive. --My personal insurance does not cover others driving my personal cars. --A state sales tax applies to ALL vehicles sold, whether personal or through a dealership. Michael has never seen the car in person, nor did he have a ppi performed on it. Michael has only seen the few pictures that I emailed to him 2 years ago. --Major tune up with new plug wires and all carburetors rebuilt and new fuel lines were done 4 years ago. --Both Chain tensioners were adjusted and valves were adjusted 4 years ago. --Cam cover gaskets was leaking oil and we replaced them. --Ac checked and added ½ pound of Freon, still blowing cold air. --We have a service history on the car back 2 owners. The previous owner took very good care of the car. Michael asked me in December 2005 if he could buy this car. He wanted to inspect and test drive the Jalpa while there was a lot of snow and salt on the roads. Michael became angry with me when I would not take the car out of winter storage for test driving purposes. At that time, I asked him to wait for a couple of weeks until the weather had a chance to blow over. Michael said ok and to let him know. Two weeks later, when there was a break in the weather, I moved cars and transported the Jalpa to my repair shop. I called Michael and told him the car was available for inspection. He was very rude to me and told me that I wanted too much money for the car and that he had found a very nice USA car that was cheaper and to never mind, unless I would take a lot less money for my car. At that point, given there was no longer any intention of a deal, I transported the Jalpa back to storage for the winter. Out of the blue, a few months later, Michael called me saying the red USA car was terrible and he should not have bought it. He said he got rid of the car and he really wanted to buy my car. He wanted to come and buy it asap. I pulled the car out of storage again and brought it to my shop. I offered my shop, a lift, and any tools needed to do the inspection (since he is a aircraft mechanic) and as long as he needed to complete the inspection. I also offered myself or my service manager to take him out for a test drive. I told him I would let him drive the car on our lot (we have a big lot, 4 acres, almost all paved). Later on, Jack at NJB called me about doing a ppi on the car for Michael, I agreed. Jack said that if it was ok that he would just come down and use our lift and equipment to do the ppi, because of the weather. I said ok. A week later, Jack called me asking if we had heard back from Michael about doing the ppi as Michael had not got back with him. (contact Jack at NJB to confirm this) Michael later sent me an email insisting that he take the car out for a drive, to which I responded how he is not covered by my insurance. He then told me, be aware that it seems that I did not want to sell the car to him or that I was probably hiding something about the car. (He edited out his negative comments out of the email that he posted on the forums.) (With Michael’s permission, I can post his original email as I saved it) At no point did I say that he could not do a PPI. The real problem with the sale was the price. Now, I will admit that I am probably overprotective of not only my cars, but my customers’ cars as well. As it is, there are only 2 techs (other than myself) that are allowed to test drive customers’ sports cars (on a pre-determined route) after repair work has been completed. I was very professional with Michael until he started accusing us of hiding things and proceeded to bash my car on the forums even though he had never seen it. As far as blatant inaccuracies of the truth: --Michael posted the last email from “me” on the forums that I did not write. (It looks like the mail header is from carreeper to carreeper.) ANSWERS TO MICHAELS STATMENTS: --The tires are not dry rotted. -- The car does not need wheel bearings at 1600.00 for a set --Wheel bearings do not go bad when sitting, if this was true then all new bearings would have a short shelf life. -- And yes, people, (including me) do buy cars w/o the benefit of a ppi and in some cases sight unseen. Also, Michael removed his negative accusations from his emails to me before posting them on 3 forums. I personally have seen many people and businesses being slammed on these forums for whatever reasons. Chat forums are for information exchange, meeting other owners and the promotion of the particular car mark. Forums were not meant for slamming people because they would not sell you a car at the price you wanted to pay or because they did a PPI on your car for a potential buyer and it failed or to discourage interest in a car that is for sale so it can be bought later at a below market value price. A lot of people (including me) on all 3 forums are getting real tired of this crap. Constantly bashing a particular model, even if it is just to lower the purchase value of 1 car is not good for that model line and is definitely not good for the whole mark. It really hurts the value of Lamborghinis in general. On the positive side, I bought a 1987 silver downdraft LM002 a few weeks ago and I needed a garage space, so I listed the infamous jalpa on ebay. A potential buyer from North Carolina showed up before the end of the auction and inspected the car. He offered me $31,000.00 for the car and left a deposit. He returned 2 days later with cash and drove the jalpa 7 hours from Columbus Ohio to North Carolina with no problems. I sincerely hope this information has brought everyone up to speed on the subject; I am not trying to “hide” anything, nor am I dealing in disreputable terms. If anyone has any further questions, please feel free to call me at work, 614-471-7535. George Evans owner/mechanic Evans Automotive
