I'm wondering if you trade a car and the value is same or similar as the car you buy what that means as far as taxes/registration, etc. especially in California.

Just curious?

That means you have gotten a bad deal. You should always get more for your trade!! :icon_mrgreen: Just kidding! Why would you care if it's in California? Aren't you going to register in PA?

In NC you pay the difference in tax value ie if trade is worth 100k and your new car is 125k you will pay the tax on the 25k

In California there is no tax rebate from trade-ins. If you buy a $100K car and trade in a $100K car, you'll still pay about $10K in taxes if you register it in CA. Totally blows. In Illinois, and many other places, you only pay on the difference.

That answers the question, thanks.

Wonder how PA is on that...

Wow, that blows. In AZ, you only pay on the difference. Also, in AZ, if you buy from a private party, there is no tax, whether it's a $15k Civic or $150k Murcie. Not so in CA.

Nice to live in AZ. IF you live in PA, and buy a car from AZ and bring it back to PA, you are paying tax :(
