:lol2:

Well it's been a bit of a mess, because VW brass wants to finalize and use a brand new mid-engined group platform for this car, along with the next R8 and also for the in-development-but-not-yet-greenlit Porsche '960' (they're exploring a mid-engined 458-fighter to be priced around $200-250k) so the indecision on whether to wait for that platform to be ready or simply do a one-off for Lambo alone in the short term has been fought over and apparantly lost by the factory.

The bureauracracy is really having an impact in terms of the timeline because of all this, by the time it arrives the 458-replacement will likely be locked and loaded.

I beleive we'll see the Lambo first though, hopefully deliveried in 18 months, then the R8 shortly after, then that phantom 960 if Porsche decide sto build it, in that order.

Mako is correct, without going into too many details for different reasons, I am well aware of the fact that the development of the R8 chassis is the reason why the replacement is not materializing a lot sooner.

Raginbull I think you misunderstood my Aventador comment, what I meant by it is that the Aventador success should have no relevance on the release of the replacement, manufacturers are in the business of making money, just because one product line is successful that should not stop them milking more profits by satisfying the demand for the second line from their already established customer base.

I love the Aventador, the design is amazing but I wouldn't buy one because it is too big for me, it does not suit very well my driving style and the roads I like to drive on, that doesn't make the car a bad car, it just makes it unsuitable for me.

There seems to be a divide in between V12 and V10 buyers, for whatever reasons why that is happening, the V10 buyers market is much larger, I am sure price has a lot to do with it, whatever the reason is it is crazy to me that Lambo isn't pushing harder to satisfy that section of their customer base.

In the last 5 years I spent 7 figures with them, if I liked the product their competitors put out, McLaren, Ferrari I would've walked by now, many people in my situation started to look "over the fence" once they move most stay.I think they are losing market share because of not servicing it, once it is gone it isn't that easy to recover, dealer network suffers because they have no product to sell or service, local dealership changed hands few times now they are resorting to selling used cars on the lot next door, if they go I won't be buying a new car without a local support.

As I said Lambo sucks at business and that's sad to see.

That is why it is best that they are waiting. One thing that I love about Lamborghini is the fact that they are all in on each model. If they were to put something out that is less than the best they cannot afford the repercussions. Their success and their future is bet on each model. And they have to earn their sales, unlike Ferrari who has the fan base to sustain. That is why you will never see an FF from Lamborghini. They should take their time and make sure they make the best V10 smaller super car they can.

I know you love the Aventador, your sig gives that away ;-)

The relevance in the Aventador effecting the G replacement line is based on the success. They are showing huge success with the Aventador to Audi / VW which will hopefully get them better funding and resources for the G replacement. They are showing that the brand can beat the competition all day long. VW is not so quick to grant their every wish. They are operating very well given the chains of red tape they much encounter.

I completely understand that. In fact, that is why I cannot see parting with my Gallardo Spyder. I feel I can drive that almost anywhere, whereas the 700 is for very select travel. I agree that they need a car for that market. I still love my Gallardo Spyder, so I am not feeling the need as much. But, point taken.

I am a driver and lover of both. They do need a Gallardo replacement and it needs to be epic. They will deliver when VW approves. I am sure they do not enjoy the 4 millionth gallardo variation any more than we do.

I think if Lambo makes an epic replacement to the Gallardo they will gain back all customers they lost in the meantime as well as new ones. It is a tricky car to make. It has to be more refined since that is in vogue these days. It has to be way tamer than the Aventador, but if it gets too tame people will not like it. It is a fine line. They can't try to play the Ferrari / McLaren game, they need to be wild, but not too wild. It is a hard position to be in. I hope it is as bonkers as the 700 but it is unlikely. If they put in my idea for an gear emotion knob (three settings: seemless shifts, sporty shifts, and break your neck shifts) they will own that knob forever and it is destined to come sometime.

I think they are operating the business very well given the umbrella they live under.

The new building for creating prototypes is brilliant. The 20 consumer Sesto Elemento's will be built there. More great wild things will come out of there in the over a million limited edition range.

RaginBull there are few people like you that are fanatical about the brand and the brand can't do anything wrong, nothing wrong with that, I am a big fan myself but even I am sick of the 1000000th Gallardo rendition, it is embarrassing.

The other day I went to visit the dealer, in the showroom they had a new Gallardo with a funny paint scheme that I've never seen before, I said what the hell is this? he said a new edition, we both burst out laughing at the same time, it is truly embarrassing!

I want to replace my car with a fresh one, I also like the rawness of the Lambo, unfortunately at the pace they are moving we will see the SL version in maybe 10 years, as I said if I could find something that I like now I would be out of the brand. The market moves very fast, they can't afford to roll that ridiculous 10 year life span, I know they are controlled by VAG but you can clearly see Lambo's own management do a terrible job at selling themselves to VAG.

Let's hope they won't screw up the replacement.

I agree. I was trying to say that in my previous response. I am sick of all these Gallardo versions. It is stupid. I was just commenting that I doubt they are enjoying it either, they are playing the hand they are dealt. I am glad they are making sure they get the best possible chassis and design to start from. It has to be epic.

I 100% agree. Lucky for them, no one makes a product anything like theirs. They own a piece of the market.

The only place I disagree is how they do representing their goals to VAG. They know. They plan for the bigger picture including Audi, Bugatti, Porsche and other brands.

Lamborghini Gallardo successor to have simplified lineup - report

Aims to increase profitability and ease confusion

Lamborghini of America COO Michael Lock has revealed new details about the 2014 Gallardo successor.

Speaking with Car & Driver, the executive said the model will have a streamlined product lineup for increased profitability and less confusion.

There will still be coupes and convertibles as well as rear- and all-wheel drive, but company might not offer as many different combinations. According to Lock, models like the LP570-4 Spyder Performante (essentially a lightweight, all-wheel drive roadster) might have confused consumers without adding much benefit to the brand.

This leads the magazine to speculate the all-wheel drive convertibles will be dropped and the lightweight models will be restricted to coupes only.

Lock declined to dive into powertrain details, but the model will be offered exclusively with a dual-clutch automatic transmission.
