^Tourist were banned on several occasions between 2008 to 2010. And it was closed to visitors for a few months after the 3/11 earthquake. There is a new rule in place: 120 tourist max. per day.

I went to the fish market in the afternoon around 2008 I think it was. I did not see the appeal. It's just a bunch of stinky strange fish, the ground is covered in water that stinks like fish, everyone there stinks like fish and you get the general vibe that you're really not wanted there. I would not get up before the sun just to see an auction there.

 

I'm amazed that the ocean near Japan has any sea life left in it after all the crap I saw them selling. If it's an ocean creature, it's for sale there, lots of it. It's kinda sad actually.
