jakt123 Report post Posted March 14, 2015 Was wondering if any Socal members can recommend some good roads in / around SD without too much LE presence and regular traffic where one can drive a bit more freely. Thanks

emanon Report post Posted March 18, 2015 Yep I found the Palm Desert drive very refreshing . Thanks ! http://www.desertsun.com/story/news/traffi...ridor/70285718/ There is a big uproar locally to get federal funding and really crack down on enforcement up 74 and surrounding roads. Have to watch that one these days.

TestShoot Report post Posted March 24, 2015 How about CA -86 S ? I remember a top gear episode that Jeremy and co drove there but did not look like they were driving very freely. Aside from being nowhere near SD; it si both the 86 and 111 featured in top gear. They take the back side down the Salton Sea vial 111 to Holtville/Brawley/Niland. I have some buddies out there and it is not kind to suspensions through Niland. Even when you start at that gas station and go to take old 111 down, it is shit for the first few miles. After you reach Bombay Beach, the RVs will be out of your way and it is a two-lane highway with passing zones, but there are deceptive dips. 86 gives you more traffic, gas stations, and the red earth casino. Not worth hitting the CHP cars that wait outside Westmorland. There is a very lonely like 1-3 officer INS checkpoint on 111 and they LOVE seeing an exotic through there. Unless you get the other 3 guys, then they search you because you look like you are running drugs or guns. BUT there are long spans where you can see 5 miles in either direction and it is flat and straight and you can probably top-out your car.
