  1. Given that none of us race for a living, and there are speed limits on most roads, isn't feeling faster all that matters? Last thing I need is a car that I need to risk going to jail for to get the same feeling I get when I'm not taking that risk.
  2. I wouldn't be surprised if the MP4-12C was faster. Driven both, MP4 feels noticebly faster. LP700 lags on the throttle too, like some turboed bmw 335... oh wait, not even the bmw 335 lags on the throttle. Go figure.

  8. Not only did the OP's car breakdown after about a month, but so did Cristiano Ronaldo's car. (http://www.motorward.com/2012/03/cristiano-ronaldos-aventador-breaks-down-in-madrid/). And these are just the ones we've heard about since they're either on the forums or famous. So that makes... I guess I know of ~8 odd people with Aventadors, and of those that I know of, 2 of them have completely broken down in the first month or two. I'd say the odds of a breakdown on a 3k mile road trip is pretty high for this car.
  9. Well, stuff always goes wrong. Popup nav screens, my 997.2's engine needed replacement when one of the cylinders decompressed. Really tons of things, Maserati's more or less have permanent service lights on for whatever reason. But it's different when a car just flat out stops on you. That really sucks. Most other "niggling" quality concerns are laughable, like dashboard trim on Aston Martins coming loose, etc. Even when my engine was replaced, the car didn't stop, it simply deactivated a cylinder. Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable driving a car through the desert (which is quite common if you live in the CA area) or into the snow during off hours if there's a risk of it flat out stopping on you. Plenty of people have died from getting stuck in the snow, let alone having their car just flat out stop on them in the snow. I can deal with niggling problems, odd engine sounds, transmission hiccups, but for a car to just flat out stop after a month of operation is a pretty major problem. It seems far more insidious than Ferraris "bursting into flames." It ended up just being some tape that could be swapped out. I doubt these Lamborghini breakdowns are so easily fixed as swapping some tape for a metal piece.

  11. I've had a lot of first year production cars, including the 458 Italia with all the "burst into flames" issues. Never were there as many major breakdowns this early on (including bursting into flames). Such is a peril of buying a Lamborghini.
  12. I'm okay with a pricey car going "bang" so long as it rarely happens. With the delays, there aren't that many of these suckers actually on the road. We've got the story from Alan (true or not...) and we have this dude (what are the odds?), and we have the guy in this thread knowing of one that went down after 20 miles. I would have to say, the odds don't look good. These cars can't have more than a few thousand miles on them. How are they going to survive 50k+ as they should?

  15. liked the way it looked + limited preview/test drive of vehicle + non-refundable deposit if not for the damn deposit, I would have cancelled my order by now and bought a V12 Vantage. also, in case you were wondering, the deposit has been "non-refundable" for about 5 months now due to Lamborghini's shitty delays, what a piss poor company
  16. ? read it again. It's possible to like how changing settings actually change things, but dislike both settings. Plus, I've been trying for months to like the Aventador considering I'm dumping half a million bucks into one, but despite all of my efforts, it's still a disappointment, bleck. Pardon my flip flopping as I come to the realization that I just made the worst purchase decision of my life thus far. Anybody looking to buy one?
  17. Yeah, Lamborghini essentially totally failed on getting 1. the sound, 2. the shifting done right on the Aventador... arguably two of the top things in a super car. Sadly, the MP4-12C may very well sound better. It's kind of pathetic on their flagship model. Their entire press release reeked of "laziness." "no DFI because we met our goals without it" so what? Put the damn thing in or your competitors will wipe the floor with you *cough* 740hp F12.
  18. ? I didn't find "fault" with another car. There's nothing wrong with the fact that sport/race mode doesn't really change the shift speed in the 458. It's just a contrast. I'm sure lots of people like that about the 458.
  19. 2 weeks til mine arrives. I really loved the gear shifts slamming home on the test drive, nothing else quite like it.
  20. sport mode: corsa mode: big difference, I love how the actual modes make a noticeable change in shift speed unlike the *cough* 458 Italia's sport/race mode (although supposedly the 2012 update changes this?).
  21. I was actually planning on changing my Aventador in 2 years for the 599 successor, but I'm not a huge fan of these illustrations. That being said, I didn't like the 458 illustrations, but I loved the car in person and in "real pictures" that surfaced later. What's a shame is how much Ferrari trounced Lamborghini this time around from a pure performance. 40 more hp, 50 kg lighter than the Aventador and all done without carbon fiber and with a dual clutch transmission. Lamborghini has traditionally always won the hp/straight line war and forfeited the handling battle, but since they "switched their design philosophy" they've now simply lost at both. The f12 sounds a lot better no less. I guess my only solace is that the Aventador will be here in a few weeks (after... 4 months of delays) and at MSRP, whereas the F12 would be 3 years away, and by then probably cost about $500k+ fully optioned.
  22. Been thinking about changing the color on an Aston Martin to a triple layer paint job from Lamborghini (grigio estoque to be exact). Does anybody here know of a high end garage that specializes in paint jobs/can handle mixing a triple layer paint akin to grigio estoque given a sample?

  24. You don't need to buy an f430 if you want a 458, you can just buy a used 458.
