Wolfgang Report post Posted July 20, 2007 Sorry to hear it's a major. How many KMs does your car have ? Type oil, changed often ? Am I understanding the main bearings are worn ? 34.000km / 21.250miles Oil changed every year No, not the main bearing - at he end of the crankshaft (looking direction gear box) are 4 bearings for ballance which are worn. Mike Report post Posted July 27, 2007 Thats what happens when you hold the clutch in while starting the car. It takes out the thrust bearings.
SYNYSTR Report post Posted July 27, 2007 So, its a 170 hours job - engine out, complete strip down to the crankshaft, hand made new bearing(s), So let me get this straight. If he works on it 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, it will take him over 4 weeks to complete the job? I think you need a second opinion. IsleroMan Report post Posted July 28, 2007 Thats what happens when you hold the clutch in while starting the car. It takes out the thrust bearings. I'm not understanding how this affects the thrust bearings. What's the failure mechanism? Why would this only be an issue at startup and not everytime you shift? Wolfgang Report post Posted July 28, 2007 Hello gents, update: what and why exactly the damage happend. 1 of the bearing shell (bushing) turned inside the bed. So, the plughole for the oil and lubrication was hidden/closed. No more lubrication for the crank shaft on this point. The bearing went hot and destroyed. The crank shaft is now tarnished and needs a complete revision - lots of time / money in another special firm. The crank case is also heavy damaged and needs a revision. New bearings.....a.s.o. Hope the pics will help to understand what I try to translate?
Wolfgang Report post Posted July 28, 2007 Biggest problem is time. My garage master is (as usual) totally overloaded with work. Just to give you a glimpse of a "normal" day... - testarossa - my diablo vt - 360 CS - Bugatti EB110 - diablo GT 46/80 outside and waiting: - 2 x countach - 355 - 360 - mondial and 20 more Ferraris/Lamborghinis stored in an extra garage waiting for maintenance. Some of the work (edging, honing) must be done in an extra & specialized firm.
topcabron Report post Posted July 28, 2007 I hope this is not a common problem that a lot of us can look forward to. Good luck, and I hope your mechanic can work you in.
Wolfgang Report post Posted July 28, 2007 I hope this is not a common problem that a lot of us can look forward to. Good luck, and I hope your mechanic can work you in. Common problem......so far the "hint" came from the factory in Italy!!! After replacing and fixing almost everything, we called the Lamborghin ifactory, spoke to a technical and he told us about the crank shaft, bearings, play, turning of the bearing shell and this is the reason that the time & speed sensor (the one at the flywheel) works wrong. And the damage of the crank shaft and crank box........not realy unkown! So, the problem is known at the factory and not the first time or one of a kind.
