IsleroMan Report post Posted January 18, 2009 Once again, a later CT fails to bring good money at auction. Russo & Steele sold a cosmetically nice (didn't get to hear it run) 1988.5 white/red CT for a weak $71k on Thursday.
ken qv Report post Posted January 18, 2009 Wow that's low... that's back to 2004 prices... I believe when Romandad bought his. Was this the one with the little weird front wing or a different one?
Earlycat Report post Posted January 18, 2009 Italian cars rarely do good at auctions. A old 1951 military jeep just sold for 104k at BJ. That is a 15- 20 k vehicle at best. It never seems to make sense.

MANG Report post Posted January 18, 2009 doesn't look bad, and looks GREAT at that price? Anyone know anything else about this particular CT? Was it a 'sound' car?
IsleroMan Report post Posted January 18, 2009 This one? Yes, that one. Hideous US bumpers aside, it looked nice. No word on whether it came with any documentation.

It never seems to make sense. I wouldn't say Italian car in general, just the newer ones. The same R&S auction sold a Diablo roadster for $107K. The problem with CTs and Diablos is without the benefit of a PPI, you are taking a big risk, so that is factored into the bidding. The vintage Ferraris, on the other hand, seem to be doing quite well. Yesterday, Gooding sold a 250GT Cal Spyder SWB for $4.5M, and a Lusso for ~$680K. At those price levels, needed repairs become a much smaller fraction of the value of the car. A $40k engine rebuild on a $1M Ferrari is peanuts, but on a $80k CT, your probably better off parting it out.

I see they are still trying to get $195k for a 512BBi. Those are down in the $120k range now.
