BABVT Report post Posted July 4, 2009 Positions 1 to 6 on the distributor cap go to the spark plugs on the right hand side of the engine while positions 7 to 12 go to the spark plugs on the left hand side of the engine. (Left and right is determined by standing at the rear of the car looking towards the front of the car). The “Long” and “Short” on the distributor cap connects to the individual coils (ignition modules). The “Long” (Master) distributes the spark to the 1 to 6 spark plugs while the “Short” (Slave) distributes the spark to the 7 to 12 spark plugs. The number 1 and 12 spark plugs are closest to the firewall while the number 6 and 7 spark plugs are closest to the rear of the car. Each coil has two connectors for the wiring harness and one connector for the distributor cap lead. The wiring harness has two different coloured bands near the connectors. Two of the connectors will have a white band while the other two connectors will have a yellow band. Make sure the “white” go to one coil and the “yellow” go to the other coil. The coil with the “white” connectors has the lead that goes to the “Long” (Centre or A) on the distributor cap. The coil with the “yellow” connectors has the lead that goes to the “Short” (off centre or on the distributor cap. Hope this helps. fjbltd Report post Posted July 8, 2009 Diablo owners, the 5.7 engine has 2 (TWO) different firing orders, did you know that? The early engine that was built up to and part way through 1994, the distributor goes counter clock wise. (as you are standing at the back of the car looking at the distributor) The later engine , newer timing chains and water pump, goes clock wise. The firing order is the same, the direction on the distributor cap is different. That means the plug wires go into the cap differently between the two engines. Firing order is the same, spark plug wires into cap different!

Sudesh Report post Posted September 22, 2013 I didnt want to start another topic on this, so hope its ok to bump this old thread. I was a little confused reading this lol, the title suggests the cap orientation [displayed in the little pic] is for 1991 to around 1995, however member fjbltd mentions there is a change somewhere in 1994. Anyway as I'm diagnosing other issues I have, and I noticed on my car [Early 1993 Year] my cap shows the numbers totally different from above [if above is indeed correct for 1991 to 94] my cap is pretty much in reverse. please see attached pics - My cap is the numbers on the outside in bold lettering. Also which would you say is 6-six and 9-nine? Does 6 read as six when the cap is on the car? and 9 as nine?
