So who here likes to play?

Where do you play?

Casinos? Cash games?, etc...

Just won a few thou on a 2-5 offsuit :)

I try and play as much as I can

Either at pubs , casino or online.

Not really a high roller though as I only play low stakes.

Used to play tournaments a lot and always got inconsistant results.

Switched to cash games and never looked back, best way to play (when you want to win consistantly)

What about you?

Cyrax, hadnt seen you in a while, congrats on the 2-5 you must've set that up nice (dont try that again though)..... Anyways, I concur on the cash games, 20 minutes can win you major coin. Private gatherings, Casinos, dont have the patience for online, I'd rather interact with people. The moment I found myself chatting/typing more at the table than playing, I decided to stay away from on-line play.

I consider myself "World-Class"

We should do a L-Power Poker event. That would be sick!!! Hey Skoks, maybe we can incorporate that in next years LV Trip!

I play daily between Full Tilt and Poker Stars...Usually just play low limit $1 $2 or $2 $4 on the internet buying in for $100-$250 max. Have run it up to $2500+ a few times then withdrawl 2 dimes and keep $500 to play on. Live I play $2-$5 up to $10-$20 depending on how my cards are running and which game is juiciest. I like playing Omaha or Omaha H/L mosty because I get very bored with Hold em very quick.

I use to play at alot of local games in Houston but the $10-$17 wack each hand killed that real quick...They have $1-$3 games here where most guys buy in for $100-$200 max and after 4 hours they are sitting there battling for $60-$80 stacks and no one had left the game.....I also got tired of all the jackasses sitting down with shades on like they are playing for big money with Full Tilt or PS gear on and buying in for a big hundy then sitting for aces or AK   I popped one guy 3 weekends in a row with pp while he was holding AK, its a great drawing hand but not to push preflop in a cash game. Good luck with the 2-5 win, I like getting dirty on people with shit hands and hittin. I was on the button with 3-6 and called $50 preflop because I was getting 5-1 on my money and I figured everyone had each other outs. I flopped open ended and just smooth called everything till I hit a deuce on the river then pushed and got instacalled by A5 suited because I thought I was making a move.

What sites do you play on? Do many tourneys? I am not much of a tourney player but will if I have time and am feeling it. They have some nasty $2 and $5 buy in tourneys on PS that have great payouts.

The 2-5 was played simply because I was big blind, haha.

Ended up flopping a straight and slow playing a guy who thought he was doing the same to me with his pocket kings (trip'd up on the turn).

I play on full tilt occasionally, but don't favor it to playing in person by any means.

I play at a bar in houston a few times a month in tournaments and go to a few cash games in the area.

About once a month or two I make the trip out to louisiana to play at casinos. Have had a few big runs.

Last weekend I went and there was this dude who I saw continuously go all in to buy pots (mostly blinds, mostly with absolutely nothing). I called him 2-3 times making a cool $1.5k just off that sucker.

God, that felt good haha.

I was playing a tourny a couple weeks ago where it came down to heads up with one of my very good friends. He kept asking me if we wanted to split pot since we were within $10 of being even, but the greedy side of me kept saying no. Ended up hitting an AK suited, raising $5 preflop and getting called. The flop was AQQ, he goes all in. After long consideration I decided that he was either on a draw or had a low pocket pair so I called and he showed me his KJ. Hit a 10 on the river and collected $600 that I wish was sittin' in my pocket :(

I played at the Isle a few months ago and made a few grand but $700 came from poker the rest was BJ...You ever play any local games? I played Asian Nicks and Bob Sura's games because all the northside games are very weak and wack way to much for money on the table. If you want to cheese dirty you need to play at Winstar in Thackerville Oklahoma, softest game ever.

I play a few real small local games from time to time, but nothing frequently.

The Isle is fun to play poker at because you don't get nearly as many high rollers coming in and buying in for $5k when everyone else is in for $500.

Check out this beat I put on this guy, the fcuk stick out drew me on the river when I had the nut straight with no possible fush draw. He had top set and called an all in for his whole stack which was $200+ some change and two outed me. Usually I would just take the beat and go on but this guy talked alot of shit so 6 hours later I finally got his ass with this hand:

B) B)

He was running hot the whole time and had built up his stack to this from $100 or $200 that he bought in for. He tilted after this hand and was busted 4 hands later and I got up when he quit. It was a good session I made over $1100 that night.

Great hand man. Good job on keeping your cool. Poor guy didn't see that coming lol.

I was jumping when I hit and wanted to push soooooo bad but I was hoping he would hang himself. I just did'nt want to see 2 pair or a set when we got it all in after the last hand we had and the way he had been running. I am usually hyper aggressive and bet/raise 5-7 hands a round so I have a rep to bluff alot.

If you ever want to play some up north let me know. One place I play at had 3 strong cash tables going tonight with $2k-$6k on each, this is a $1 $3 game. We had an Omaha game that went 4 days and had $20k on the table at one time, it was sick I bought in for $200 cashed out $1700. Went home went to sleep and went back when I woke up because the game had gotten so juicy, it was crazy.

Where exactly do you play on the north side?

PM me the info if you don't mind, I may take you up on that.

I may not have the bankroll to play in some of the bigger games, but a $200 buy in shouldn't be too bad.

Larry,

Is this how you make your living? Playing poker?

lol nope but everyone seems to ask that or think so. I still work our businesses everyday and have my investments for my daily bread, I suppose I could live off my gambling proceeds but its to much of a grind to have to do on a daily basis...Since the economy slowed down and all of our businesses went down I don't gamble as much and shut down most of my markers. Two were shut down because I had mishaps with the casinos but that is a whole other story.

What do you guys think is worse?

When you've played masterfully and have driven everyone out the hand with garbage, and the one schmuck that doesnt know how to play stays in and beats your pair of 4s with a pair of 6s.

Or

When some punk-ass sits at the table and goes all in 3 straight times before the flop, and the fourth time you know you've got him dominated and the mutherphucker sucks out a monster on the river.

What I have learned is no matter how well you play if someone is lucky that night you just can't beat them. We had a drunk guy that caught cards like a dream when he was tanked but otherwise he could'nt play for shit. He called a $50 raise from MP under the gun for a head up match. At this point there is only $10 in the pot+the $40 on top raise so he had no business in the hand. Flop was 5d9c7d, he checks then calls a $100 bet, turn is 6d he checks then calls an all in and says I got a flush. Original raiser turns over AdKd which was no suprise and thought he had won then Drunk James turns over 4d8d for the straight flush. He did'nt know he hit the SF, he seriously thought he was setting a trap with his 8 high flush...Sometimes you just can't beat bad play.

Or sometimes you just get lucky like this:

or this:

https://www.pokertableratings.com/replayer/...hash=1768698723 <<That is just nasty

I have some sessions where I have played 1600+ hands over 11 hours so I have tons of bad bad suckouts. I have 4 different screen names so hard to pull out all my bad beats(given and recieved)there are a few Omaha hands that I would love to find and show you guys...Tens always seem to do me well, worst one was when I flopped middle set(10's)and another guy flopped top set(Ace's) and I quaded up on the river. I have a bad problem calling when I know I am behind and sucking out, I am a calling station online.

  • 4 weeks later...

I used to play on a daily basis, almost exclusively at live casinos. I can't focus half as well online as I do in person, but would play online occasionally (especially for stud tournaments, they don't exist in casinos). I was essentially playing for a living (also betting boxing and getting paid as a handicapper) but as someone said, playing for a living is a grind. It's more like Rounders (even playing legally, in Vegas) than it is like ESPN. At least that's my personal experience.

I hardly ever play now, at least over the last couple years, but I still consider myself a highly skilled player. For what that's worth.

I play a few times a week, generally on PokerStars or FullTilt. I am pretty much a break even player right now playing PLO high and Hi/low. Mostly just hi.

I had a heater playing 1-2 last week running 1 buyin up to 12 in the matter of one session lasting a couple hours, only to be crippled the next session for most of it. But that is PLO, sometimes you run good, other times variance catches up.

I am ok at tournament HE, but I get board fast of HE. I like 6 max PLO. Generally I will have a tournament and a PLO game open at the same time.

One thing I have learned is I can't stand low limit anything. Be it a $1 tourny or any cash game under $1-$2. I find players feeling like gods calling down with jack flushes, when PLO is a game that is all about the nuts.

I'm thinking about heading up there on a thurdsday some time after new years for their $60+15 thursday tourneys.

I'm just kind of curious how many people come out to these things.
