G Audio

There is a relatively new thread here where someone has added a powered sub box that is flat and fits behind the seats on a G. I also want to upgrade the audio system in my G but I use that area for a garment bag when I travel. For those that have upgraded the audio in a G, what did you do? I want to keep my NAV and backup camera. Can anyone recommend a car audio specialist in the LA area (preferably in the Valley)? Thanks.

I am in Jersey, and I want to upgrade the audio in my G Spyder too. Anyone change speakers and get a good result? Amps? Any advise?

Audio 2000 in West LA put in a removal box behind my seats. I used focals in the doors and 2 8 inch subs on the parcel shelf. Works well.

I upgraded the speakers in my spyder to Focal units. It is a definate improvement. You just need to fabricate a mounting ring for the main speakers. I cut up the factory speaker to make the ring. The tweeter is a direct replacement.

How much of a difference would JUST changing the factory speakers to focal units or similar make?

I am used to high end audio and find the sound in my Spyder generally poor...

Less distortion and better bass. However when the top is down, the sound is never very good anyway.

Kev,

My spyder just arrived at SP engineering today. Not sure how far you are from there but your more than welcome to give alex a shout and stop by to take a look at it.

I have a shop here in Phoenix called ultimate auto concepts. I just put a nice kenwood system in the car as we are going to be using my lambo as a demo for the company. We also installed the 9500Ci escort radar as well.

The challenge in the spyder is that there is no room behind the seats !!! Where do you put a sub without making it looks stupid ? Where do you a put a sub so that you can actually hear it ?

We decided to remove the stock set up all together. We put in the new Kenwood DNX 9960 head unit which blows away the stock nav and can also be hooked up to a back up cam if needed. We replaced the stock speakers with kenwoods new slim line component 6 1/2" inch speakers and used there 8" slim design sub. The amp is a 4 channel that was put in place of where the 6 disc changer was seeing that we can't use the 6 -disc changer anymore with the aftermarket unit. Here is the best part. We removed the passenger foot well plate and designed a box that holds the sub and put it right in the foot well. It does not even look like there is a stereo system in the car and it rocks as loud as the system we have in our dodge pick up that holds similar equipment but carries twice the RMS output than in the lambo.

If any of you are in the LA area your more than welcome to stop by alex's shop and listen to it and see the system. Of course I'm having some stuff done to the car there so I would only ask that you clear it with alex before going by there as the car may not be accessible.

In my car it makes no difference and I have the exhaust valves pegged on open all the time. With the set up I just described its the best of both worlds and sounds insane, top up or down.

Thanks for the offer. How long is your car going to be at SP?
